Now r/GenderCritical has gone, Helen from Mermaids wants to know which is the most transphobic

Not sure who's going to be targetted next, but MN is winning.

Given how important MN is in allowing open and honest debate on this issue, and to all sides, if people can afford it then a monthly sub would help. They have to pay their overheads, after all, and while I appreciate people don't always like their rules, personally I think it's fair enough to try to balance what each side feels is truly offensive.

We have freedom of speech here, and it takes integrity, given they've lost advertisers for it, and have had to divert a lot of staff to moderate this section as well. Nothing in it for them other than a genuine belief that women deserve a place at the table, too.

I couldn't agree more, wellbehavedwomen.

I have just subscribed to Premium, and I urge all FWR regulars to do the same if you value this space.

Frankly, I can't understand the lighthearted responses to these TRAs attacks. They have been incredibly successful in getting women's voices banned from almost all mainstream platforms. That should scare you. It does me. Women need to invest in female-controlled internet platforms if we want women to be able to talk freely online. That starts with supporting Mumsnet.

I subscribed a while ago, but I live overseas & I'm not scared. I do understand that not every woman has that luxury.

@LemonadeAndDaisyChains

You certainly seem to know a hell of a lot about this person you profess to luff though, that seems a bit next level?

I know a shit ton about a load of random people, don’t you? Grin Don’t fret that she gets special treatment, she just turns up a lot and I looooove people so I remember lots about them. All of them. I could tell you quite a bit about Bojo too. Or Prince William (nice enough. We chatted a bit over lunch some days.) Or Wendy who runs the greenhouse. Or Shakaea or Tiny from the shop. Tiny was in the special olympics a few years ago. I could tell you which sport but I’d have to kill you. (Just kidding. I just don’t want to out him.)
So to be clear, I luffs them all. People are FASCINATING. If you get rid of actual morality and look at them as characters, bloody amazeballs in all their variety.
I used to love that wee cartoon in the torygraph or wherever it was - the wee caricature one when they had a drawing and a little spiel about the character. That’s essentially what’s in my head for the majority of people I meet - the character just adds a bit more meat in the way of facts each time they pop up.
Dang. Now I wish I could remember what the series was...
But no, lol, I’m seriously the furthest thing from a stalker that exists 😂😂 and as for the hate follow thing (which I had never heard of until tonight) that sounds like an utter waste of time. I do follow Donnie. Could technically be seen as a hate follow I guess 🤷‍♀️ but in Donnie’s case, he can have a fairly instantaneous catastrophic effect on the entire world. While Helen might like to think she’s that important, it’s more ‘Helen who?’
Can’t stop the brain from filing the deets that come past though. Apols if it makes me look unhinged 😂😂

It does concern me somewhat, that each time I feel we’ve taken a big step forward, we are slammed down again in some other way. I keep thinking “this is it now, the house of cards is falling” and then discover that they have yet more power that had not previously been revealed. And there are occasions in the past where awful regimes have prevailed for some time. I have never really had any doubt we would get there, because I feel so strongly that right and truth are on our side. But it really is like fighting a hydra.

Welcome newcomers! No hate here. Just women talking about their biological-sex-based rights, experiences, pointing to evidence, talking about politics and how it affects us.

Where we see a clash of rights with gender-based politics/belief systems, we can discuss it here. That’s not attacking anyone, yet elsewhere just for doing that women are often cancelled, silenced, threatened with violent attack, sacking, doxxing, rape, death and more, on other social media platforms or in real life.

It’s already a given that each of us in the world has a rightful claim to equal rights with everyone else. We are all human beings. Which of course includes women.
So posters don’t tend to entertain men’s sexual entitlement campaigning on here, authoritarian attempts at silencing or anti-safeguarding campaigning. Smile

Helen thinks we have no sense of humour? But I thought the fact that we used sarcasm and laughed sometimes was evidence of how mean we are?

Once again though, thanks for the extra hits - we do love the sunlight around here!

As a PP said, a donate button would be great. I don't want to hand over my details. DH works in computing and has inculcated into me a total paranoia about internet security.

Yes, welcome to new posters.
This is hopefully obvious, but it's a good idea to read the Talk Guidelines, including the extra set linked to from the main ones.

Of course peopleon here know a fair bit about Helen/Mimmymum. She used to do the marketing for Mermaids, she took Miranda Yardley to court and she is instrumental in leading attacks on Mumsnet's advertiser's, and people like Glinner. And she's rather batshit.

Report
SunsetBeetch · 01/07/2020 08:56

Although some people seem to get her mixed up with Susie Green, CEO of Mermaids. Mimmymum is NOT Susie.

Don't be so cocky about Facebook, TRAs.

Facebook has many I mean, A LOT of GC groups that are private or even secret. I hobnob on these groups on a daily basis with the likes of Posie Parker yes, they could ban PP but she is still there under her real name Julie Birchhill, Venice Allen, Julia Long, Meghan Murphy, and a host of other very well known names. TRAs can't access these sites -- the gatekeeping is strict and we talk. We can say what we like.

The movement has merely been pushed of sight and that is always dangerous. It hasn't been erased. We are still here, not only on Mumsnet; it's just that MN is public, which is good, as newcomers have easier access.

But we have gone underground. Like the French Resistance. They tried to kill that off , too, and look what happened. It's what happens when you try to kill off truth. It never works.

BTW a suggestion made today on one of those groups: instead of saying Transwomen are not Women, we should say, Seahorses are not Horses. Over and over. Everyone will know what we mean, eventually, but you can't exactly argue against it.

Report
Lamahaha · 01/07/2020 10:36

^ and in the underground we are gathering strength, gathering recruits by people who can't speak out. One group admin said yesterday that they gained 2000 new members since the JK fiasco. Others say the same.
Just because you can't see us doesn't mean we aren't there, Helen.

As we batten the hatches, can I just remind people to report suspect posters. I do it all the the time. MNHQ are pretty good at joining the dots if someone is being goady/disingenuous/quote mining even if individual posts stay within the rules. A lot of the time it turns out that 'new' posters have been banned in previous incarnations.

Also, if it's overnight, let www.mumsnet.com/Talk/the_night_watch know, they can hide posts/threads until MNHQ can have a look.

I feel physically sick when I think of that ‘charity’.
