Never posted on this board before, but nervous, but I’m furious.
Just bought some towels from Superdrug and the first line on the back of the packet is ‘A person who menstruates..’ I’m a woman ffs!
I shop in Superdrug all the time for their cruelty free stuff but no more!

I'm with you . WRT "a person who menstruates" that will be a woman . Not all women menstruate and that will of course include those with a premature menopause , those on medications that stop menstruation , those with a menopause and yes those who identify as a woman .

ThinEndoftheWedge · 18/06/2020 16:48

Superdrug obviously have failed to realise there is an entire human being surrounding the menstrual process- woman or girl.

The main demographic who shop at Superdrug

Womanwhobleeds · 18/06/2020 17:01

Exactly, I mean how hard can it be for them to just say women.. or just not mention it.
It saddens me as it’s the slow drip of all of this stuff and the fear of the backlash if we speak out.

Luna isn't owned by superdrug though. I'm sure There was a thread on luna products a while back. I do agree that it should be women

Tonz · 18/06/2020 17:08

A person who menstruates??? A woman then.. The world has gone mad. Are we slowly being brainwashed? I'm not a person who menstruates I'm a woman. Luna is a brand though so not really super drugs fault.

Mumoblue · 18/06/2020 17:12

I really do not love "person who menstruates". I find it really dehumanizing.

What is wrong with "women and trans men"?

SarahTancredi · 18/06/2020 17:15

🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Clymene · 18/06/2020 17:17

Contact details on the packaging are for Superdrug so looks like it's their brand.

Why do they want to alienate 50% of the population to avoid upsetting 1%? It's mystifying. Anyone would think women have no buying power whatsoever

Womanwhobleeds · 18/06/2020 17:17

Been off looking up the Luna name. It’s a recently launched Superdrug own brand that’s plastic free (which was what made me buy it until he first place).

I agree. But from another POV what happen if the 'person who menstrates' has real issues with the fact that they're a woman. It doesn't really bother me if I'm honest.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 18/06/2020 17:20

I'll stick with 'women and girls', thanks.

Clymene · 18/06/2020 17:20

Or you know, just women? If, as Laurie penny asserts, no one is trying to deny biological reality, organisations can just use the word women surely?

After all, transmen know that their biological reality is that they're women while transwomen know that women who menstruate means the cunty kind of women.

Why is it offensive to anyone?

Thisismytimetoshine · 18/06/2020 17:23

Why should I have to draw a cloak over the fact that I'm a woman to see if it makes them feel any better (why would it)?
LST · 18/06/2020 17:27

Because it's not affecting your mental health being referred to as a person and not a woman on a packet of pads? Or maybe it does. Apologies if so. I was just giving another POV

Swapname · 18/06/2020 17:28

Not really worth getting worked up about IMO. Not all women menstrate and not all women who menstrate feel comfortable with being a woman. However all women who menstrate are people, so it’s factual and non offensive Confused

We are under no obligation to indulge in their pretence that menstruation isnt a female specific function. Nor are we under any obligation to pretend women dont exist because it upsets someone. I'm sure it's far more upsetting to be 11 years old and freezing at night in a hut cos your dad thinks you are filthy and would rather you potentially died in the night than touch something in the house cos you got your period.

Haha ok. Yeah, like I said I was offering another point of view. No one is saying it isnt a female thing to have a period. Jesus.. wtf has a girl freezing in her shed because her dad is a cunt got to do with a 13 year old child bleeding and not wanting to accept they're a woman?

Thisismytimetoshine · 18/06/2020 17:36

Women who have issues with the fact that they're women will not be helped by other women pretending they're not.
The "we're all people" arguement is disingenuous nonsense, really.
We know we're all people. But some of us are women people and some of us are men people.

Holothane · 18/06/2020 17:36

This is getting silly now,

LST · 18/06/2020 17:37

Thank you @swapname much better put!

I wish I could care so much about some words on the back of a period rag packet if I'm honest.

Kit19 · 18/06/2020 17:40

It’s the salami tactics of it

The word woman is removed from products fir women, from information leaflets about pregnancy “Chest feeding” , from charity campaigns “cervix havers”

The word men of course is never removed

And where you end up is Scotland defining women as anyone who says they are

If we can’t define what a women is, we can’t protect our spaces and our rights

SerenityNowwwww · 18/06/2020 17:40

And it’s printed onto such a pretty shade of blue...

FurbabyLife · 18/06/2020 17:41

I’d much rather be referred to as a person than a woman. Then everyone is equal. Why does everything have to revolve around what’s between your legs?
