Never posted on this board before, but nervous, but I’m furious.
Just bought some towels from Superdrug and the first line on the back of the packet is ‘A person who menstruates..’ I’m a woman ffs!
I shop in Superdrug all the time for their cruelty free stuff but no more!

“Yeah it’s called the menopause
But you are not a man
You won’t need tampons anymore
So throw them in the can

You might get those hot flushes
But you won’t wee standing up
You get to keep your vulva
So bin that new mooncup

Don’t worry if you grow a tache
It happens to us alls
But one thing you won’t get now
Is a set of cock and balls.”

Something like that.

Deliriumoftheendless · 02/09/2020 10:39

“Remember ladies, you’re still a woman after your periods stop”.

I think Burt Reynolds was in the ad.

Winesalot · 02/09/2020 10:43

That is a classic ‘Delirium’. Congrats on the new song writing gig. Grin

Winesalot · 02/09/2020 10:44

But if you said mooncup in the 70s it may have been considered a drink.

Deliriumoftheendless · 02/09/2020 10:47

I’m still annoyed I wasted money on one just as I slid into menopause 😂 (but glad too, I fair shit myself when I tried it out, was terrified I wouldn’t get it out again 😂)

Winesalot · 02/09/2020 10:54

Deliriumoftheendless

I am nodding along with you on that as well!!!!

hahaha - I had the same - I thought I was going to cause a prolapse - I've got the hang of it now but still not totally sold. Anyway I won't be needing it for much longer now - I'm putting all my energy into working on my Burt Reynolds moustache.
DialSquare · 02/09/2020 11:01

I came so close to ordering one but as my periods were so up the wall at the time, I didn't bother. Turned out to be a wise move as they stopped shortly afterwards and I haven't had one for two years now.

Deliriumoftheendless · 02/09/2020 11:25

I think we’ve found a way to bring on menopause- let’s Dragon’s Den it 😂

I nominate you to be our resident Phoebe Buffay, Delirium, sitting in the corner with your guitar, screeching freestyling appropriate jingles for the discussion at hand.

SunsetBeetch · 02/09/2020 11:35

I've had a couple of emails from Superdrug saying they miss me (I have a store card). Well I haven't missed them,or the money I wasted in their shops.

Deliriumoftheendless · 02/09/2020 11:50

yourhairiswinterfire I think you nailed it with screeching 🤣

yourhairiswinterfire · 02/09/2020 11:56

Ha, I was referring to Phoebe and her wailing, making no assumptions about your jingle singing abilities.

But if the shoe fits... Grin

DRH90 resurrected this thread from the beginning of July to tell off women for being unkind.

...someone feel like they have a place in a world that constantly rejects their existence...

Women are not rejecting the existence of transmen. This is said so often, and I just don't get it. Because if anyone's existence is being erased, it's women's.

DRH90 consider this a telling off from me, for being unkind to women. How would it hurt you, to just be kind? Call people what they are in reality (what a concept, I know) so nobody's existence is rejected.

EyesOpening · 02/09/2020 12:51

That’s brilliant! BTW DHR90 in my email to Superdrug, I haven’t asked them to reject the existence of transmen rather to not reject the existence of the word woman. It’s such double standards to have their own range of products called B. Men and a section on their website entitled “men’s” whilst removing the word women in the name of inclusivity. Superdrug #BeKind please
yourhairiswinterfire · 02/09/2020 12:59

I'd love to hear whether DHR90 thinks men are unkind and denying the existence of trans women for using the word 'man', or if it's just women they believe should roll over and accept erasure.

CoffeeTeaChocolate · 02/09/2020 13:17

I don’t think we should be so hard on DHR90. It is possible that they are in the process of writing a lot of emails and tweets to Prostatecancer UK to complain that not only men get prostate cancer and so should rebrand the next campaign “people with prostate cancer”.

I wish they would come back to confirm this.

MichelleofzeResistance · 02/09/2020 15:54

...someone feel like they have a place in a world that constantly rejects their existence...

Which never happens to women....

Except when their words are taken and their existence hidden because it presents distressing boundaries to the identity of male people.

And except when they try to explain that single sex spaces were set up for a reason, and male people wanting to use them because male needs and male distress is yes, hard for them, but those reasons for female people haven't gone away, female people need them, and some female people will end up with no spaces at all if male people commandeer female spaces as their preferred alternative to using their own sex spaces.

And except when they try to point out that no one sane of either six would want to be locked up with a serial rapist who has left badly injured people behind them, when you happen to be his exact preferred choice of target and are going to be expected to undress and get in a shower naked with them.

And except when they point out that they funded and set up themselves refuges so that female people could escape males battering and trying to kill them and often their children too, and that while it's very hard for male people who do not want to use refuges for people of their own sex, commandeering female refuges makes those refuges no longer work for the people who set them up because they had the need. And there's plenty of room to fund and set up more refuges that are mixed sex or LGBT specialist with LGBT staff or anything that's desired, but commandeering female refuges for male people excludes some female people from any refuge, and will add to the fear, distress and lack of healing for many females.

All of this gets hand waved away, laughed at, ignored, denied, and brought back again and again to focus on male needs, male feelings, male vulnerabilities. A place in the world where no one constantly rejects their existence?

Oh yes, female people get that. They get that constantly. How ironic you say that without realising the agenda you promotes does exactly what you are saying is unacceptable.

Winesalot · 02/09/2020 15:59

All of this gets hand waved away, laughed at, ignored, denied, and brought back again and again to focus on male needs, male feelings, male vulnerabilities.

or just minimised with a 'be kind' or 'hysteria'....

MichelleofzeResistance · 02/09/2020 16:12

And the fact that a poster is lecturing about invisibility....

and when you don't immediately show sufficient solemn and earnest care for one group it's considered socially inappropriate

but it's quite ok and in fact normal to just say the other group don't matter, aren't important, in fact it's more or less taboo to notice or stand up for their needs and socially appropriate to sneer and decry or threaten them as a group....?

Then you see who is truly invisible. Truly oppressed. Truly beneath notice. Listen to what you're saying.

EyesOpening · 02/09/2020 16:51

Until I started reading up on all this, I think I kind of assumed that the refuges were a council/governmental provided service, I hadn't realised that women had to set them up themselves and get their own funding. Considering all these companies falling over themselves to fly the rainbow flag, it wouldn't be that hard to set up more refuges that perhaps specialised in trans' needs and if they were worried about it "othering" them, it needn't be a trans only refuge, I'm sure all those women who aren't bothered about males being there, would be happy for the extra spaces that were now available

MichelleofzeResistance · 02/09/2020 16:59

Worth reading some Lundy Bancroft, 'Why does he do that' is a good one, and looking at what he says about the creation of double standards, when someone creates separation in their mind of what they or a particular group of person should be entitled to, and then allocates a much lower set of standards as good enough for another set of people.

It's often a hallmark of abusive relationships interestingly enough: the 'I get this but you only deserve that' sets up the situation that enables the abuser to justify what they're doing. They're not usually people saying 'hang on, that doesn't work for both of us, applying standards equally - let's find a third way.'

Anyone, anyone at all with even an ounce of, I was going to say awareness, but it's actually eyesight, can see how one sided all this is.

Until men are called people with prostates, people with penises, people who ejaculate and Gillette start talking about the best a person who shaves can get, then you can fuck off with your sexist shite.

If people can't see the misogyny behind this, because they don't understand feminism or why women need a collective term, they can, at least, bloody well add up the amount of times this happens to women (loads) but not men (zero).

And then you can tell me why?

That one question.

Why?
