Scenario: Woman tries to use Male changing rooms. Turned away.
Woman is "non binary" (photos suggest this means jeans and jumper, not name, haircut etc)

Wokeycokey M&S then falls over itself to acknowledge this and rushes out an apology completely contradicting its store staff:
"'The fitting rooms are located within our womenswear and menswear departments and therefore are mainly used by customers of that gender, however, as an inclusive retailer and in line with most other retailers, we allow customers the choice of fitting room in respect of how they identify themselves."

Make up your bloody minds M&S.

In Primark, we went in and out of changing rooms a number of times over different floors. And twice there were teenagers coming out getting friends opinions and were sometimes only wearing a bra and jeans. I doubt they realised that men were allowed in the changing rooms.

izzywizzygood · 20/02/2020 15:59

How can you be both transgender and non-binary??

I have concluded that this definition is the result of a regretted sex-change. I met someone once who went to all the trouble of changing from girl to boy, to then deciding they had to be called "they", as though they didn't want to be a boy either.

Lordfrontpaw · 20/02/2020 16:00

Primark - The one next to me is always full of gangs of young women and teenagers trying on clothes in the changing rooms. Unisex changing rooms. What could go wrong?

AnotherNightWatering · 20/02/2020 16:01

Looking into this some more, it looks like the story originates from swns.com/, judging by the mark on the photos.

I'm thinking this is a story that Myra got paid for indirectly by swns, perhaps. The fault with the whole thing is that M&S gave such a woke reply!

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 20/02/2020 16:01

I mean cameras can also be hidden in the current changing rooms....its not like they are guarded 24/7 even when they ARE supposed to be single sex.

I'm very aware of that, I used to work in retail. It's about lessening the opportunities for creeps to place a camera, he'd be chancing drawing attention to himself if he was in the women's changing rooms.

GodwinsRulebook · 20/02/2020 16:02

What exactly is transgender non-binery anyway

How very dare you ask? They are speshul.

Winesalot · 20/02/2020 16:03

Lordfrontpaw absolutely nothing .....

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 20/02/2020 16:03

Quite honestly if any man’s perverted enough to want to film my aged body he can fill his boots.

Good for you Hmm I and plenty of other women don't.

Samtsirch · 20/02/2020 16:08

I love M&S.
Their cauliflower cheese is heavenly.😁

Totally agree with you.

Lordfrontpaw · 20/02/2020 16:09

I don’t want some creepy bloke perving at next.

What if he was into older ladies and wanted to letch at my (late) mum and stick film up on the Internet? She would probably castrate him with her walking stick but still...

Fieldofgreycorn · 20/02/2020 16:12

If they’re non binary why are they so concerned about which binary changing room they go to?

lowlandLucky · 20/02/2020 16:15

I am a female and i would like to only share changing rooms and toilets with others that were born female. It might traumatise some people but i really really give up caring. Nobody gives a stuff about us females so i refuse to give a stuff about who i traumatise anymore

Lordfrontpaw · 20/02/2020 16:21

Im worse - I’m an older female so when I’m not being invisible, I’m pretty certain my saggy wobbly bits would definitely scare the horses and make the delicate youths cry. And I really don’t care.

DuLANGMondeFOREVER · 20/02/2020 16:31

‘For crying out loud’ 😅

Now beyond 2000 upvotes and still the only comment. Not surprised, it says it all and cannot be bettered.

Took a little screenshot to commemorate the moment.

Lordfrontpaw · 20/02/2020 16:31

Was it someone on here that wrote that?

Melroses · 20/02/2020 16:46

I feel sorry for the staff stuck in the changing rooms. They always seem to be there alone, if at all these days. Not a good position to be in.

Melroses · 20/02/2020 16:59

It is a good comment. Heartfelt. Smile

Datun · 20/02/2020 17:02

Non-Binary may mean neither male or female or both male & female or sometimes male & other times female.
Its essentially an 'access all areas' VIP pass.

Indeed. I often wondered why TRAs pushed the non-binary narrative so much when it didn't seem to apply to them.

But it would appear to be so that a man who looks exactly like a man, can still access female changing rooms. Or can cross dress at weekends, and wear a man's suit to work during the week, blithely switching from one to the other with no explanation necessary.

Access all areas, at any time, on a whim.

Languishingfemale · 20/02/2020 17:07

DandelionsAreNotLions made an important point upthread:

The whole non-binary movement seems to be ordinary middle class people, often in the arts, pretending to be special ,very, very special. Then claiming attention by abusing and humiliating service and front-line staff doing a valuable job on low wages, by claiming they are transphobic and intolerant for not noticing or caring about their inner gender essence.
Pretty disgusting really

M & S have taken the Stonewall £££££££ and I suspect that the rights of their staff will come a poor second to the approval of Stonewall et al.

sonypony · 20/02/2020 17:09

non binary rather than transgender but just so happens to feel the need to demand to use the changing rooms of the opposite sex Hmm

Esspee · 20/02/2020 17:09

@DidoLamenting. The national bird of Scotland is the Golden Eagle
There used to be a thriving population of the red Corbie/Corbyn, especially in the lowlands, but they have been superseded by the yellow snipe.

I’m so confused. She looks like a woman (and is a woman?) but told the staff member “I’m not a woman”? The poor changing room assistant must’ve thought she was in an alternative reality!
She then went home and cried hysterically because she had been “accosted”? Jesus.

HandsOffMyRights · 20/02/2020 17:14

'For crying out loud' may be my new slogan.

Or, 'stop pandering'

These are not just male or female shoppers, these are M&S non binary shoppers.
