This article is a timely reminder that yesterday I was in Primark sitting on a bench outside my daughter's changing cubicle (just a curtain) and a young male came and sat beside me waiting for his female friend to come out and show him the clothes she wanted to buy. I am assuming sexes here, I tried not to stare and I could have been wrong about gender presentation. But my point stands either way.
I have written to management about this today and called the store for clarification on their policy. Apparently, there is a disable lockable cubicle available for anyone uncomfortable with the policy. Of course, I mentioned that disabled people should not lose access to the space that they need and the need for fully lockable doors in the main area.
I also mentioned that I saw nowhere a sign that it was mixed sex and was told there was a small sign in the cubicle. I pointed out the woman beside my daughter obviously had no idea that a man could be sitting directly in front as her curtain had not been pulled closed on either side and maybe she did not read the sign.
The manager was happy to take my complaint and gave me the admin email for complaints for head office. However, I am pretty unhappy about this to be honest.
To me, it is evidence that they have implemented mixed sex spaces without adequately addressing the privacy or safety issues for customers in the rush to be inclusive.
