Twitter has taken the baton. Seems people are not happy with being told what to think.

It’s quite an interesting strategy, isn’t it? To lose a general election so catastrophically and then decide that you didn’t lose enough voters, and that your leadership election must serve to rid you of many tens of thousands more ideologically impure supporters.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 12/02/2020 23:48

They seem to have interpreted "period of reflection" to mean "reflecting on how our massive loss wasn't our fault and the solution is to scold everyone for not being woke enough, which will most assuredly lead us to victory next time".

GCAcademic · 12/02/2020 23:51

Yep, their activists obviously didn’t scream “bigot” and “TERF” at enough voters during the GE election. They will have to try harder to reach more people next time.

Valanice1989 · 13/02/2020 00:06

Now that I think about it, I wonder if some of the Momentum crowd believe that the mere fact that they accept Corbyn cannot remain leader is proof that they've listened to the electorate. They may feel they've compromised their principles significantly by "agreeing" to this (not that they had much choice, since Corbyn himself decided to resign) and have no need to compromise any further. So many of Corbyn's supporters seemed convinced for so long that he was the country's only hope.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/02/2020 00:18

I just knew that Labour's hijackers would react to the general election results by becoming even woker. It was always obvious that the "period of reflection" was never going to consist of any substance.

YY.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/02/2020 00:20

After all, who is Karen? She's a middle aged working class woman that's who, and she's not taking any more shit.
These kids are all lairy as fuck when they are trashing women's rights but they still want Karen to make them a sandwich. They can fuck off, Karen's busy now.

An old friend told me she is staying in long enough to vote Starmer, and then she is out.

She said it didn't matter that he's a TWAWer because Labour won't see power for a very long time, but at least it won't be led by openly dead eyed cult members. She has a point.

magicrainbowbeans · 13/02/2020 04:51

I've been suspended from Twitter for liking #ExpelMe posts. Not even posting. Just liking. Unless I identify myself and give them my data, which I'm not going to do. If I try to log out I get taken in a loop to the same statement.

BlackeyedSusan · 13/02/2020 07:25

Being discussed on R4 Today, from about five minutes ago

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 13/02/2020 07:53

A previous Labour Party manifesto was once described as the “longest suicide note in history”.
Saying “TWAW” may perhaps be the shortest?!

Babdoc that is Brilliant.

bellinisurge · 13/02/2020 08:01

Discussed it again with DH. We live in a so-called red wall area and are from w/c backgrounds. He said "that's mad. People here are generally tolerant of different ways of living. They probably haven't even thought about this in detail. But if it puts women and girls at risk? No fucking way. Why do they think people are ok with this?"

IfNot · 13/02/2020 08:22

My new account hasn't been suspended yet, but my old (very old) account, has!
How can you be suspended for liking ExpelMe? Thats fucking sinister.

AmandaAppleton · 13/02/2020 08:28

Rosena Allin khan who is running for deputy seems to be hiding in plain sight on this; she’s had run ins with her own constituents over her description of women’s place as “transphobic”. Maybe she’s so far behind in the 2ndary contest that she’s not considered relevant but it’s at least indicative of the general party mindset

ArranUpsideDown · 13/02/2020 08:40

I've been suspended from Twitter for liking #ExpelMe posts

I hope that is an error because that is actually frightening.

Redshoeblueshoe · 13/02/2020 10:21

I had to proove who I was for liking #ExpelMe tweets
I wonder if JKR has to do this ? Or gets threatened with expulsion ?
Or do they just reduce the number of likes she gets ?

TheElementsOdeToJoy · 13/02/2020 10:54

I had to proove who I was for liking #ExpelMe tweets

That’s really scary. I’ve been enthusiastically liking lots of them all of yesterday. So far my Twitter account is all normal, when did they suspend it?

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 13/02/2020 10:56

My twitter account got suspended after a couple of days of liking ONE #istandwithMaya tweet

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 13/02/2020 10:57

And no, the tweet I liked was not in any way offensive

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 13/02/2020 10:59

I think all it takes is one random nutter taking umbrage against you and then finding a sympathetic employee at Twitter, really. There doesn't have to be a logically defensible reason because nobody involved is acting on logic or reason, just hurt feels.

Thinkingabout1t · 13/02/2020 12:25

Yep, their activists obviously didn’t scream “bigot” and “TERF” at enough voters during the GE election. They will have to try harder to reach more people next time.

i awfully fear this really is their plan.

Thinkingabout1t · 13/02/2020 12:29

Bellinisurge, yes I think that is the general view, and across the whole population. I couldn't believe it, watching the Red Wall crumbling in the last GE. Labour finally has managed to shake off its most loyal voters. Took some doing but the Labour leadership achieved it.

MsMcWibble · 13/02/2020 12:32

I rejoined twitter specifically to post #ExpelMe - 2 days ago. I've been made to prove I'm not a robot twice and had to give them my phone number - which I really didn't want to do.

ArranUpsideDown · 13/02/2020 13:06

Jane Clare Jones, Kathleen Stock, Fond of Beetles et al - they all posted on Twitter as part of #ExpelMe and they're still there as far as I can see.

It seems very odd that some posters are having verification and other issues and others aren't.

Bananabixfloof · 13/02/2020 14:21

Its because the ones you mention are well known. The proletariat however are unknown, a good way to find out who they are is make you tell them.
My Twitter got perma banned a while ago. I need a burner phone to open an account now. Honestly it's too much like hard work so I haven't bothered.
