This actually came up in the Ashdown research into why Labour lost.
I was surprised: I thought it was an issue that hasn't yet reached the wider public.
The Ashown report has quantitative interviews with voters. And pronouns and women's rights is reported as being a significant part of why people feel Labour no longer represents them.
Already.
I say 'already' because I still think awareness of this issue isn't as widespread as it can be, and isn't yet impacting as much as it will.
But even in the Ashdown report, it's there. As an issue that alienated people from Labour.
Is Labour a vanguard Party, that sets an agenda in advance of popular opinion? Should it be?
On this issue, that is precisely what Labour is setting itself up as.
And the Ashdown report suggests that is a mistake.
Unfortunately, all this shows that Labour is not looking at the Ashdown report and is still in deep denial about the results of the GE.
🤦♀️
