Dress however you please.
Call yourself whatever you like.
Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you.
Live your best life in peace and security.
But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real?

To start off thread 2 - everyone saying the time was right for this to hit the news stands right after the Election was right!

Maya Forstater's Employment Tribunal case is, by virtue of JK Rowling's support, more popular in The Spectator than Boris Johnson by Boris Johnson, The Tories and The Labour Party!

MOST POPULAR in The Spectator

1. In just a few words, JK Rowling has changed the transgender debate (James Kirkup)

  1. Boris Johnson: Perhaps my campaign was ‘clunking’. But sometimes, clunking is what you need (Boris Johnson)
  2. We’ve just had the best decade in human history. Seriously (Matt Ridley)
  3. Keir Starmer looks and sounds middle class precisely because he’s working class (Isabel Hardman)
  4. Let’s make David Lammy Labour’s next leader (Rod Liddle)
  5. A new leader won’t stop the far left’s domination of Labour (Nick Cohen)

my Hadgrid waifu pillow

I'm growing rather fond of Jarvis!

breakfastpizza · 21/12/2019 11:16

A bit behind, but I can't believe NBC News gave space to someone (Rachel McKinnon/Veronica Ivy) who has made public death threats to women. And there isn't even a mention of it, or of their multiple name changes to hide their past. It's like Jarvis being quoted in the Advocate - you don't need any credentials or credibility whatsoever, other than saying "I'm trans".

Jameela? What an absolute embarrassment. She's complained extensively about cancel culture... then cancels Rowling in the most attention-seeking way possible.

Challenge to Jameela - spend some time on the frontline of services for vulnerable women. Find out WHY the people running them are concerned. Extend them the basic human dignity you seem to so keen to bestow on anti-women campaigners.

bellinisurge · 21/12/2019 11:17

I saw someone likening transwomen to adoptive parents. You would never saw that a parent with an adopted child wasn't their parent. BUT correct me if I am wrong, but isn't adoption a difficult and testing process where there has to be some legal confirmation first after considerable assessment of a person's suitability before they are allowed to be an adopted parent. Which is regularly checked and supervised.
The analogy doesn't work.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 21/12/2019 11:20

Yes, media companies, remove all Harry Potter content from your networks right before Christmas, because if there's anything large media companies love it's losing money!

NeurotrashWarrior · 21/12/2019 11:24

I think it's a piss take

breakfastpizza · 21/12/2019 11:25

I was at Gatwick yesterday and the Harry Potter store was HEAVING. I was going to buy something in support but it was too jammed!

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 21/12/2019 11:29

So, yeah, as we can see, cancelling someone on Twitter means nobody will ever like them again and they will be cast into the pit of like free despair.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 21/12/2019 11:30

(Spoiler - in Rowling's case the pit is lined with 100 pound bills and adoring fan letters. And ringed with the bottles of gin many of us are going to send her if a suitable shipping address is provided.)

JanesKettle · 21/12/2019 11:34

Cordelia Fine has this on her page:

I also agree that "people should be legally permitted to believe that biological sex is immutable and cannot be changed, without fear of losing their jobs." (Kathleen Stock)

Haworthia · 21/12/2019 11:42

So many “biologists” crashing onto Twitter to say “Lo! Allow me to explain something about biological sex! It isn’t binary ACTUALLY, it’s VERY complicated...”

And then they wang on at length about disorders of sexual development. I’m tempted to have a shot every time I see one of these threads, but it’s early and I have stuff to do, so... Gin

AlunWynsKnee · 21/12/2019 11:44

Very happy that ds is getting a set of HP books for Christmas Xmas Smile

BinkySodPlop · 21/12/2019 11:57

Not sure if it's allowed to reference a previous thread (and don't know how to link the particular comment!), but I just wanted to say a big "thank you" to the 11 women who keep this board going (ably supported by the Russian bots). You are an informative and witty bunch and even find time to keep the street violence wing going......

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 21/12/2019 11:57

My favorite is when they insist that hypospadias means sex don't real.

Tootsweets23 · 21/12/2019 11:58

Re the discussion on the first thread about how academia has been taken over by nonsense... was this thread covered?

mobile.twitter.com/claudistics/status/1207794227637374976

It is a doozy of the "I'm an expert scientist let's talk about all these other species and hope you don't notice I'm not talking about humans much".

Thanks to the JK tweet I now know how many of my intelligent pro rational, pro science non-scientist mates who 100% think sex is on a spectrum.

Haworthia · 21/12/2019 12:01

Also came across this 30 something (bio says “born in the 80s”) transwoman with a My Little Pony avatar saying that biology has no place in society outside of classrooms, doctors’ offices and “biology labs”.

Confused

EverardDigby · 21/12/2019 12:03

I've just bought the first in the Strike series, wouldn't have done so otherwise (I usually use the library), so happy to be able to support JKR.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 21/12/2019 12:05

Clownfish!

FlyingOink · 21/12/2019 12:26

People are falling over themselves to be "on the right side of history", which in itself isn't a bad thing. I guess there are worse motivators. Plus people have worked out that Science=good, and cannot be challenged (not so good).
It'll be the "MAPs" next. Explaining how consent is a spectrum, or how CSA images aren't real, or how deepfake porn using their own kids' faces is fine, or something.
Actual grown ups are now looking at a man and wondering what he could possibly be out of the infinite list of genders. And asking us how we could possible judge xim for xis sexual offending behaviour despite all that awful misgendering going on.

I guess if you're willing to suspend disbelief enough to accept the spectrum shite you've committed to making yourself look a prat anyway, so you might as well go full woke.

BarbaraStrozzi · 21/12/2019 12:26

but I just wanted to say a big "thank you" to the 11 women who keep this board going (ably supported by the Russian bots). You are an informative and witty bunch and even find time to keep the street violence wing going

And we're doing it on a shoestring too 'cos my cheque from th Heritage Foundation hasn't arrived yet (fuckers - you'd think Evangelical Christians would show more Christmas spirit).

Haworthia · 21/12/2019 12:36

Here’s another patronising biologist. DRINK!

twitter.com/lisamdanish/status/1207778613397008385?s=21

You know what @EndoplasmicReticulum, since JKR blew up Twitter, I haven’t come across a single person shouting about clownfish. I’m kind of disappointed.

Deckthehallswithlotsofcake · 21/12/2019 12:40

One of the newspapers in my old country just wrote an article about this. It seemed more or less copied from one of the British pro TW newspapers, so I sent the newspaper a letter asking them to inform themselves better and suggested they check out the transwidow threads and google "Karen White" and "Jessica Yaniv".

ScotiaNova · 21/12/2019 12:52

I was following the first thread ‘live’ but just got round to posting now. I‘m so delighted and excited that JK did this, what a step forward for womanhood & girls. I liked her post and got involved in twitter conversations about the case, and while not making it explicitly clear I’m GC, if you join the dots it’s implicit. In fact I discovered last year that I was on some sort of Turf* mass block list purely because I’d liked certain tweets.

A lot of the people I’m connected to professionally, some of whom are true friends, are very wokey. I’m not surprised to see them tweeting and RT-ing “TWAW” and anti-JK stuff. I disagree and respect their right to hold a different view - I can do both. What makes me sad is that I’m pretty sure I’ll be ostracised if I blatantly make my views clear.

*spelling it Turf is deliberate as I can’t remember if the acronym is allowed on MN. And also, ‘cos it really has turned into a turf war, innit.

ArranUpsideDown · 21/12/2019 12:54

I now know how many of my intelligent pro rational, pro science non-scientist mates who 100% think sex is on a spectrum.

Likewise. I'm very disappointed by this to the point of distress.

KettlePolly · 21/12/2019 12:54

A relative had a severe hypospadias and has done time for assault. I don't think he'd consider himself to be anything other than collossaly male.

The lack of basic logic continues to be breathtaking. Our physical sexed bodies exist. There are differences. No two will be the same but the fact that we are here at all having this ludicrous debate is because of sexual dimorphism. Sexual dimorphism results in sex based oppression. To reduce harm, society uses clear unambiguous definitions and boundaries. Man. Woman. Not a feeling in your head. Your body.

FlyingOink · 21/12/2019 13:06

Sexual dimorphism results in sex based oppression.
But we can opt out of sex-based oppression right?
