I imagine Dame Irene Handmaiden must be of such comfort to the sobbing youngsters, who realise that when their Hogwarts letter arrives, they’ll have to beat the owl to death with a baseball bat.

I do feel for Rowling. It can't be easy being so much in the public eye. If we had a hunger games whistle emoji I'd send you one, JK.

Something that strikes me about this is the UK/US difference. Seems to make a huge difference- different contexts histories and resonances I suppose.

Do you think that most PR agencies are advising being quiet rather than getting involved? Or just that they don't care or know about it?

They definitely know! You'd have to have your head in the sand. I imagine it'll take a few more big stars to come out gender critical before they stick their head above the parapet

Interesting to see the change of tone in the BTL comments in the Spectator piece on this.

Six months ago, it was very much 'Bore off, James', or 'Serves the Feminazis right'. But, by and large, they're seeing the problem, particularly in relationship to free speech and wrongthink.

The other thing that struck me about her tweet was that the narrative pushed by TW is how lesbians have to sleep with them, or people having to include trans people in their dating pool or they’re being transphobic. They never say the other party has a choice in the matter. JK suggests in a witty way that’s not how it works.

I see Jameela Fucking Jamil has piped up. How arrogant do you have to be to think you can lecture JK Rowling on how to 'do better'? The audacity of her.

I think it's amazing JK has spoken out, I don't think she'll delete this time, everyone has a line and it seems that Maya's case crossed hers.

I love the clip of Father Ted and that sort of language. And of course, it has one poster who hasn't realised it's a parody saying "remember to buy them at a thrift shop so she doesn't get any of your money" - I love it when people are that dim!
