Dress however you please.
Call yourself whatever you like.
Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you.
Live your best life in peace and security.
But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real?

This is fantastic. Bloody hell.

There is a generation who have been weaned on this woman's books. She is huge. And features a lot amongst a cohort who blindly support identity politics.

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 19/12/2019 13:16

WOOOOOOOOOO!!

Siameasy · 19/12/2019 13:17

Get in!!
Well done JKR
I’m not on Twitter but hope she gets lots of support.

ThePurported · 19/12/2019 13:18

OP would you consider adding a bit more info in the thread title, e.g. the hashtag or Maya's name?

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 19/12/2019 13:18

There is a generation who have been weaned on this woman's books. She is huge. And features a lot amongst a cohort who blindly support identity politics.

And the best thing is she can not be bullied / fired / have her advertisers taken away or anything like that.

Sexnotgender · 19/12/2019 13:18

There will be much frothing from the blue hair brigade. I’m sure JK knows what she’s in for though and did it regardless. She looks to have followed the debate from the sidelines as far as I can see.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 19/12/2019 13:20

(Some random with an anime avatar) - "If I call her names she'll shut up, right?"

AuntSpiker · 19/12/2019 13:21

Fantastic. Such a huge 'name' and so well respected.

Can I just mention Sharron Davies as another woman in the public eye who stands up for women on a regular basis.

TiredofthisBS · 19/12/2019 13:22

Good grief there are so full on flouncing strops going on. I've got a sneaky suspicion that Maya's case will be the straw that breaks the camels back. JK if you read this - thank you. Thanks

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 19/12/2019 13:23

And the best thing is she can not be bullied / fired / have her advertisers taken away or anything like that.

Given the grasp on reality many of those concerned have I bet some are attempting to report her to her supervisor as we speak. Maybe once they realize she doesn't have one they'll call PC Gul.

What I'm actually expecting is a demand that she donate all her profits from the Potter books to Mermaids or some such.

GeordieTerf · 19/12/2019 13:25

Jk already follows Magdalen and Glosswitch Smile

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 19/12/2019 13:25

I'm waiting for them to phone universal studios and tell them they will never holiday there.

Poota · 19/12/2019 13:27

Geordie, oh yes, it's not been a secret that she's aware.

But this is full blown, "I have arrived" open acknowledgement of stand point. And it's definitely restored some hope.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 19/12/2019 13:27

They have wanted this for ages now, the hate of any woman with any kind of power infuriates them doesn't it...

cwg1 · 19/12/2019 13:27

So pleased to see this Star Keep pulling!

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 19/12/2019 13:27

Do they show the Potter films on telly over Christmas? Station will get lots of calls.

"Showing this film literally erases people, ITV is CANCELLED"

Lumene · 19/12/2019 13:28

Wow thank you J K Rowling for making a stand.

CaveMum · 19/12/2019 13:30

Hurrah!

stillathing · 19/12/2019 13:30

HA

I love that she's her own woman. That she dragged herself out of a difficult life situation and made her fortune herself.

I love that her books have inspired a love of reading in several children I know who were otherwise put off and struggling due to dyslexia or other learning difficulties.

I love that she gives back and I double love that she is now speaking out.

I'm also a bit amused by the fact that all of the entitled little upholders of the patriarchy are going to be in agony over how to bleach their love of her books from their self righteous minds.

Howyoualldoworkme · 19/12/2019 13:34

I don't really like her books but I bloody well love her!
Hopefully this will encourage more prominent women to be brave Flowers

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 19/12/2019 13:34

I've got a sneaky suspicion that Maya's case will be the straw that breaks the camels back.

Me too - it's just so absolutely, obviously crackers. Completely mad.

Of course people can't change sex. No number of pieces of paper can change someone from the type of human who might gestate a baby to the type of human who can fertilise those humans who gestate or vice versa. We all know this.

LizzieSiddal · 19/12/2019 13:35

Yes, Sharron Davis and some other sports people have been great.

NoSquirrels · 19/12/2019 13:35

Fuck YES!

[Will forgive the previous "middle-aged moment" business from her publicist and assume she no longer uses them.]

Thank you, Joanne.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 19/12/2019 13:36
Star

Fucking brilliant.

This is seriously brave.

Yes, it is.

TheChampagneGalop · 19/12/2019 13:37

HELL YES!
I just saw it on twitter since I follow her, and got so excited! Glad she is finally speaking out.
