Dress however you please.
Call yourself whatever you like.
Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you.
Live your best life in peace and security.
But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real?

Do none of the woke-haired folk stop to think that they might be able to bully some people into deleting stuff and offering mealy-mouthed apologies, but the sentiment that drove the initial statement is still there underneath?

They don't want to win over hearts, it's about control.

RoyalCorgi · 19/12/2019 14:25

This is fabulous news. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, JKR.

It's almost worth Maya losing to have this. It means it will finally be brought to the public's attention - and when they see the amount of abuse Rowling is receiving just for stating a belief in biological reality, they'll cotton on to just how dangerous and intolerant this ideology is.

Plus point: watching all the small-minded wokebros frothing at the mouth over the fact that their heroine has a mind of her own. How very dare she.

IcedPurple · 19/12/2019 14:26

I disagree with J K Rowlint quite profoundly on some things but she is 100% correct here. The fact that it may now be a crime to say that males and females are biologically distinct is chilling.

PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind · 19/12/2019 14:27

Just seen this under the #Istandwithmaya hashtag! Yaaaaaaasssss!

MoltoAgitato · 19/12/2019 14:28

Great news. And good for her.

NoSquirrels · 19/12/2019 14:28

I think if I was Amanda Abbington I too would delete my tweet (and I bet JKR would support her to do so). The pile on is EXTREME. I shall only be disappointed if she tweets an "apology".

The more I read JKR's tweet, the better it becomes.

She doesn't even give a tiny little bit - nothing about being happy to call people what they want, for example. She says they can "call themselves what they want" not that anyone has to agree.

Very brave.

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 19/12/2019 14:29

Bloody brilliant!
The tantrums and threats in some of the responses are hardly propping up arguments that there is no threat to anyone from TRAs. I would imagine screeches of TERF are like water off a duck’s back to JK and she knows there’s nothing anyone can do to threaten her career or popularity

Kit19 · 19/12/2019 14:31

one of my friends has tweeted in support of the judgement - im so disappointed in her but not surprised. Tbh our friendship has fallen apart over this issue

WomanBornNotWorn · 19/12/2019 14:31

The likes and retweets for JK's tweet rack up as you watch.

Plenty of reasonable, polite thank yous in the comments.

While the avatars, side glances and beards are working themselves into a frenzy of accusation and hyperbole that bear little relation to what she actually wrote.

ThePurported · 19/12/2019 14:31

I think the power of the TRAs is in the wane.

There is more public awareness, but behind the scenes in our institutions it's a runaway train. They are more powerful than ever, the judge's ruling is just one demonstration of their influence.

Boireannachlaidir · 19/12/2019 14:31

Thank you Joanne ThanksXmas Smile

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 19/12/2019 14:32

she knows there’s nothing anyone can do to threaten her career or popularity

Universal, Warner bothers and Disney had a bidding war over the rights to license her properties, the scope of what she is worth is inconceivable to most people.

theflushedzebra · 19/12/2019 14:32

Both JKRowling and #IstandwithMaya are trending on Twitter now.

Phew is it too early for Wine ? It is nearly Christmas.

TERF is also trending - and I'm surprised that I don't even care. Get it out there - the more people see hw that word is used against women and free speech the better. Bring it on!

StandUpStraight · 19/12/2019 14:33

This is fabulous. Her tweet is balanced and compassionate. The contrast with the death threats and blind rage that it has provoked is really something.

Datun · 19/12/2019 14:33

the scope of what she is worth is inconceivable to most people.

She can't be controlled. Through threats and insults.

She's got all the power. It's killing them.

FearOfTheDuck · 19/12/2019 14:34

God that is actually such a confusing tweet, absolutely baffling, so if your life dream is to become a member of the opposite sex and you enter a magical world, the one place on fictional earth where the wish you have can come true and you can actually magically change sex why would you not do that. Baffling totally baffling.

Less baffling if you consider that what the poster probably wanted to hear is not that magical sex changes can happen in the HP universe, but that of course a male-bodied young person could sleep in the girls' dorm so long as he felt he had a feminine soul. It's not about body dysphoria in such cases, but gaining 'validation' by trampling over the boundaries of women and girls. Even fictional ones.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 19/12/2019 14:35

Especially in the context of the tweet it reads as...

"Wear what you want, love who you want, call yourself whatever you like"

"How fucking dare you, you bigot, you must want trans people to die!"

It's demented.

Kit19 sorry to hear that. Ive lost friends through this too. It sucks.

Feels like a massive breathe of fresh air reading that tweet. Thank you JK Star

OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg · 19/12/2019 14:38

Blimey, that Twitter outrage really is something. "Live as you want but sex is a fact" v "you horrible transphobe, you should be erased from your own books!" Now, which of those is a more rational position...?

Pink haired persons on Twitter right now: "expelliwokearmus!"

Hollygaggles · 19/12/2019 14:41

What I don't understand is how all of the vitriolic, spewed hatred in response to a powerful (but measured) Tweet is ok. Why isn't it deleted immediately as hate speech? If anything fits the definition this does.

Devereux1 · 19/12/2019 14:42

100% case for judicial review.

Kit19 · 19/12/2019 14:43

thank you @scarscar it does but I cant pretend over this

Im assuming btw that there is nothing in the Queens Speech about reforming the GRA and I think it will effectively be kicked into the long grass

MangoesAreMyFavourite · 19/12/2019 14:43

Thank you Maya and thank you JK Star Star

Fantastic JKR! And Maya Flowers

Our favourite cyclist-who-used-to-be-McKinnon has a pinned tweet offering to do a paid story Hmm

Hey @nytimes @BuzzFeedLGBT @washingtonpost @guardiannews @BBCWorld @BBCBreaking @Newsweek @TIME @latimes

I want to pitch a story on JK Rowling's transphobic tweet today referring to a UK court ruling yesterday that transphobic hate speech is not protected speech. Interested?
