Dress however you please.
Call yourself whatever you like.
Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you.
Live your best life in peace and security.
But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real?

breakfastpizza I’d be shocked if she hadn’t thought this through. I don’t see her as an impulsive type. I’d like to think they were prepared for the out come of the case and ready for her stepping forward.

If no one else prominent enough isn’t brave enough to step forward I fear she may take the whole brunt of this.

TheClausSeason · 20/12/2019 19:36

She's so brave. And noble.

The amount of hatred she's facing over this is unreal.

soloula · 20/12/2019 19:38

The AIBU voting is very interesting. It's not just those that frequent the feminism boards that are in support of JK. Maybe the tide is turning? I hope so!

golgiapparatus · 20/12/2019 19:39

The bile being spewed is quite something. Up to now they have had to content themselves with the T word as a hateful descriptor for women.

But now, hurrah, oh brave new world, they get to call women cunts again.

Bet that makes them happy. It's only been a matter of time. The methadone of the T would doesn't cut in any more, they need the heroin of 'Cunt'.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 20/12/2019 19:47

Butchy, there's a Stain Devil for that.

There's no tide to turn the public have never been behind this. The people pushing this are going to push on regardless of how corrupt it now looks.

SophoclesTheFox · 20/12/2019 19:50

That AIBU poll is veeeeery interesting Grin

I thought that FWR was only populated by eleven bitter old harridans and an army of Russian bots paid for by the evangelical American right wing? Weird how an anon poll would turn out like that.

Huh.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 20/12/2019 19:52

How much do we want to bet JK's army of lawyers is keeping tally of who has libelled her? I could see her picking one key person to go after to make a point.

I don't know what the plan is, if any, but she's clearly not an impulsive person, just the fact she waited for the right time to do this.
(Not to mention waiting for the right deal for the Harry Potter movies, a deal that revitalized the British film industry. And a Theme park Deal that left her with control over the decisions in the park.)

mcduffy · 20/12/2019 19:56

The person she misgendered doesn't even present in a non-masculine way, so even tougher to remember. Oh, apart from their sparkly wellies and converse. Must remember to check feet before assuming pronouns.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 20/12/2019 19:57

Oh yes, she's a very careful, shrewd woman. She was thrown into fame and fortune very quickly, and not since letting Scholastic publish The Philosopher's Stone as The Sourcerer's Stone on America has she allowed a single thing to go anything other than her way. The books, movies, theme park, play, studio tour - it's all on her terms or it doesn't happen. This is not a woman to mess with.

What a fucking hero. I love her.

@MsMcWibble looks like we'll need a new thread soon?

EvenSupposing · 20/12/2019 20:08

I love JKR too. And I know people find fault with the books on a literary level but that woman packs more creative ideas onto the page than any other writer I can think of. That's why people love Hogwarts - it's so rich.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 20/12/2019 20:30

I got a v sweet email back from her agent when I emailed support. I doubt she'll read any of them but I wanted them at least to see tangible non-twitter evidence of agreement. I do not get the impression that she's backing down here.

God, I hope so. That would be awesome.

She has an awful lot of power, and there are an awful lot of women who could benefit from it.

I didn't know that she was determined to maintain control of a lot of her stuff.

I love that.

Datun · 20/12/2019 20:50

JK, I don't know if you, or any of your staff, are reading this.

But the bottom line is, if you cannot define who is a woman, you cannot define what constitutes sexism.

And, I don't know if you are aware of how this is being taught in schools and what is happening to our children. But I urge you to find out.

NotTerfNorCis · 20/12/2019 22:42

Which House do you belong to at Hogwarts school for Witchcraft and Tervestry?

NotTerfNorCis · 20/12/2019 22:55

Apologies for double post. Just saw JK's story is leading again on Twitter... 'Examining why JK Rowling's recent comments are hurtful despite the author's claims of acceptance.' Twitter is heavily invested in one side of this story.

a terf who hates trans people and supports rhetoric that kills them

One of these days I'm going to snap my teeth right off, grinding them at the utter garbage some people come out with.

Needmoresleep · 20/12/2019 22:56

I realise that I am quite cross at woke Hollywood types insulting and abusing people in the UK who want to defend the right to free speech.

American cultural colonialism at its most ugly.

Does not matter what the subject was, and despite what the judge says, Maya should have the right to say things in a personal context without risking her livelihood.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 20/12/2019 23:02

To be fair on Twitter, they've never claimed to be a company which supports balance or fairness.
None of the social media playforms have, they've always clearly maintained influence of public opinion.

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 20/12/2019 23:16

"This is not a drill"
I got a bit giddy when JKR hash tagged this, nearly two years ago when I started to lurk FWR,a poster bythegrabhammers (or something like that) she said those same words.(bythe if you are here under another name Star) She made me question what was happening and I'm forever grateful. You really made an impression on me so I could imagine I'm not the only woman who felt that way.
(Ive been looking for bythe for a long time, and just hope she's still here!)

Good discussion on Scottish BBC - Madeleine Kearns and James Morton.

I’ve always wanted to be the last person to end a thread. My contribution to this debate is always emotive. I am not a fan of Harry Potter but my kids were. I give the books away about 3 years ago. Now o am going to buy all those books and inside each o will have the twitter text that she said so I know once again I am on the right side of history.

iamright17 · 20/12/2019 23:43

Did I make the last contribution. To all you lovely people and JR Rowling. Happy Christmas
