Looks like the usual people turned up for a photo op at Manchester pride, though to be fare there were 11 not 8 as usual.

Carry on protesting because its a good reminder of the actual numbers if that is all the people that can protest the second biggest pride in the UK.

Thanks for the update, DJLippy

Yes I can imagine there were a lot of people who didn't want the hassle of speaking out.

And I think I know the "bear" you mean from his Twitter comments yesterday. Ranting on about how he should be allowed to verbally abuse women with impunity and "cishets" who called him out on it should fuck off.

MagneticSingularity · 25/08/2019 13:40

Meant to add that I applaud the women brave enough to put themselves out there and who managed, despite their very small numbers, to make so many thousands feel ‘unsafe’ because of course they did. Hmm

DJLippy · 25/08/2019 13:40

Yes that's the guy.

TirisfalPumpkin · 25/08/2019 13:51

Maybe it's like homeopathy - as the smaller the number/physical mass of the GC contigent, the more unsafe the thousands of rainbow-glitterists feel.

Aspley · 25/08/2019 13:58

Imagine getting so upset about a group of lesbians protesting at a Pride event.
Why do you give a shit @Bespin?
Just admit you are a homophobe, it would be easier in the long run.

GirlDownUnder · 25/08/2019 14:07

I don’t reckon Bespin will be back, alack, alas, and woe.

We were sent a missive to ‘learn us’.

And I definitely learnt Halo

ThePankhurstConnection · 25/08/2019 14:35

I see someone wasn't getting enough attention this weekend. There, there - let me pop those toys back in your pram for you.

In other news, wonderful to see those women at Pride marching for their right to love other biological women - shame they still have to do this in 2019. I was also very moved by Charlie's twitter thread and applaud her. At least this thread allowed SophoclesTheFox to make that astute post about blocking and reporting and the different approaches from women and trans and allies. The thread was worth it to read that.

Ah but not just any lesbians. They were disobedient lesbians.

Some women won’t do as they are told and they need to be put in their place.

Michelleoftheresistance · 25/08/2019 15:56

Exactly Olga

Good lesbians don't use the word lesbian and call themselves queer women, which announces openness to anyone identifying as a woman. They then make all the right noises when the inquisition demands they state their personal inclusivity policy, and many, I'm sure many who avoided the eye of these protesting lesbians at Pride, keep their heads down and hope they're never put in a position where they'd have to stand behind their words. I saw the tweet from a well known TRA public figure publicly denouncing a lesbian woman the TRA propositioned, and terming a polite rejection as transphobia.

Some of those head down women will belong to lesbian groups that have gone underground to avoid harassment and colonisation. But to admit to this risks leading to the kind of public humiliation, pile on and harassment we've seen plenty of evidence of women suffering. It takes one hell of a lot of courage to invite that. Bravo to the brave 11 who felt able to.

Live and let live? No, really not.

Deliriumoftheendless · 25/08/2019 16:06

I think it’s fab that Bespin is keeping us up to date as more lesbians and allies speak up.

It’s great you’ve taken that job on, mate, probably increase your workload and all that but I do expect a new thread every time the numbers go up. Might keep you busy but it’s totes awes of you.

Can’t wait for your next thread!

DJLippy · 25/08/2019 16:06

It's was 14 FYI

Deliriumoftheendless · 25/08/2019 16:31

Aww hope you made and iced that cake earlier, now you can just go rest. Here and Twitter and building patios (who’d you bury? hahaha) must me knackering.

Deliriumoftheendless · 25/08/2019 17:02

Hope you’ve still the strength to count! Pip pip!

Bespin · 25/08/2019 17:35

LOL at the notion that the vast majority of lesbians will sleep with dick:

www.them.us/story/cis-trans-dating

29% of lesbians said they’d date trans persons. But of those 29%, 38% said they wouldn’t date a transwoman, meaning only 17% of lesbians are even open to the possibility.

The remainder, though, were — strangely, according to the researchers — willing to date transMEN.

The researchers actually expressed surprise that lesbians would be willing to date “opposite to their own gender identity.”

Of those 17% of lesbians who stated they’re open to the possibility of dating TW, how many have actually done so, how many have carried that through to actually having sex — who knows?

Average age of participants = 26.

So, Bespin you’re out to lunch. The Manchester protestors are actually expressing the view held by 83% of lesbians.

SophoclesTheFox · 25/08/2019 17:43

Aw, thank you pankhurst!

Ereshkigal · 25/08/2019 17:46

So simultaneously the vast majority of lesbians, according to Bespin, include MTF trans people in their dating pool, but strangely enough don't appear to follow through or even stick to the correct gender? A mystery for our times.

BunchMunch · 25/08/2019 17:50

I'm not a lesbian but I applaud those women for standing up for their rights. I find it confusing tbh that lesbians are being called out for not wanting to date /have a sexual relationship with anyone with male genitalia.
The survey on twitter which asked straight men if they'd date trans women didn't attract the same level of angst - I think about 90% said they wouldn't.

I don't believe people can change their sex.

(I also don't see why that is so controversial.)

BickerinBrattle · 25/08/2019 18:04

Isn’t it just, Erish?

Interestingly, only 11% of gay men and only 3% of straight men would consider dating anyone trans, of either sex, but oddly no one’s calling them transphobic bigots (yet.)
