The English Cricket Board sells out women's cricket

Women's cricket is now open to transwomen, who don't even have to reduce testosterone unless wanting to be considered for international games. For the domestic game the ECB is using the 'social model', having, of course, been advised in their decision-making by Stonewall. I don't even like cricket, but this wholesale ignoring of the Equality Act 2010 has made me furious!

TellItLikeItReallyIs · 11/08/2019 17:32

Oh dear oh dear.

This is terrible.

cricketmum84 · 11/08/2019 17:34

Can a transman request to play in the men's team despite being genetically female though?

Not trying to be inflammatory. Just asking the question!

Awful decision - and as usual, all done on the quiet. We are watching the wholesale eradication of sport for women and girls.

happydappy2 · 11/08/2019 17:40

How do we get them to reconsider? This is crap....

FermatsTheorem · 11/08/2019 17:40

Not only that - the eradication is happening just as women's sports is really beginning to take off. Finally getting professional leagues, TV rights, etc.

It's heartbreaking.

NotAtMyAge · 11/08/2019 17:42

See thread re Australian cricket selling out the women.

I saw that but at least in Australia TW have to reduce their testosterone to 10mol, even for the domestic game. The ECB isn't asking for ANY reduction. I'm just gobsmacked.

It's like all the sports bodies - they've all been targeted by Stonewall in their work to remove women's spaces, sports etc.

JoyceJeffries · 11/08/2019 17:44

🤦‍♀️

If I were prone to conspiracy theory, I wouldn't call that a coincidence, Fermat. Women really aren't going to be allowed to have anything for ourselves, are we?

Imagine the power behind the bat being held by a man, compared to a woman. Then imagine being the woman that has to catch that ball. There will be injuries.

DejaVulva · 11/08/2019 17:55

The England Women's Cricket team won the World Cup in 2017:

FormerMediocreMale · 11/08/2019 17:57

Im guessing no impact assessment has been done as a male fast bowler could kill a woman, a mediocre males power and speed is far greater than a womans.

DejaVulva · 11/08/2019 17:57

Imagine the power behind the ball when a man bowls at a woman .. no helmet will fully protect her head.

cricketmum84 · 11/08/2019 18:01

a male fast bowler could kill a woman

Literally the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. A Male fast bowler could kill a man if he hit him in the right place.

Is this really the right place to be insinuating that we are somehow softer than men??

Yes a man could probably throw and hit the ball harder than a woman. However I've watched enough local cricket matches with mixed teams to know a woman can more than hold her own in the mostly Male teams.

MockerstheFeManist · 11/08/2019 18:04

BBC Test Match Special will have hours to fill this summer, especially if it rains, so it might well be worth speaking to them, [email protected]

One commentator in particular, Isa Guha, as well as being an ex-England Women's international, is a biochemist with an MPhil in Neuroscience, so ought to get it.

stucknoue · 11/08/2019 18:10

Women can play men's cricket already so trans man wouldn't be an issue.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 11/08/2019 18:16

My concern is less the dangers and more the fact that every time a man who self identifies as a woman tales a place - a woman loses out. Won't be long before women are completely absent from sport - right back to the Victorian age.

AnotherNightWatering · 11/08/2019 18:18

The pdf is dated 26 April 2019. Is it really from the ECB? Is it a draft? Is it fake news?

It doesn't seem to be linked to from the ECB website. This is the link. What does it mean?

FermatsTheorem · 11/08/2019 18:21

Yes, precisely, truthisarevolutionaryact.

I've dabbled a bit in cricket (but ultimately didn't want the risk of breaking fingers because I'm a musician). My main sport used to be football. I played Sunday league at a very low level and even then wasn't very good - rarely made the starting lineup, the bench was my usual position. It would have taken just one TW joining the team to bump me off the bench and into "training only." And, crap as I was, that would not have been fair. Because the TW would have been taking advantage of superior speed, stature, strength, and male socialisation (will have played at school; I didn't start playing till I was an adult).

But there are sports where safety is a real issue. I believe English Rugby has the same inclusion policy. And it would only take one TW in the front row of the opposition scrum to make it far too dangerous for women to play.

DeRigueurMortis · 11/08/2019 18:27

Do these buggers do any research at all before implementing such policies?

Wonder how many women are on the ECB?????

littlbrowndog · 11/08/2019 18:49

From a sweaty person on twitter below

Oh fucking hell @ECB_cricket

You know what a woman is. You know we’re smaller, not as strong, not as fast.

In a women’s test the boundary is 55-70 yards. In men’s it’s 65-90. Why the difference if you think men can be women?

littlbrowndog · 11/08/2019 18:49

Shite. Not sweaty. Sweary

Manderleyagain · 11/08/2019 18:59

Anothernightwatering I see what you mean as it's just a stand alone doc, but I'm sure fpfw have done their homework. There is no date on the doc as far as I can tell though? Some clarification from the ecb as to whether this is their current policy and when it was brought in is necessary.
