The English Cricket Board sells out women's cricket

Women's cricket is now open to transwomen, who don't even have to reduce testosterone unless wanting to be considered for international games. For the domestic game the ECB is using the 'social model', having, of course, been advised in their decision-making by Stonewall. I don't even like cricket, but this wholesale ignoring of the Equality Act 2010 has made me furious!

I’m sitting watching today’s ashes highlights.

It simply cannot be safe for men to play against women. Someone like Jofra Archer could do some serious damage, just look at what happened to Steve Smith.

FannyCann · 17/08/2019 22:09

A rather perceptive comment I think.

In today's Times... I can't work out how to do a share token.

www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/trans-player-puts-cricketers-on-the-back-foot-nfljzh2h9

"There is a new star in the Kent women’s cricket team — its first transgender player is opening after one season. Maxine Blythin, who is more than 6ft tall and under England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) rules can self-identify as a woman, has a batting average of 124 this season and has hit four centuries already."

That picture!

An action shot of Maxine.

Interesting their tweets are protected.

Popchyk · 18/08/2019 09:12

"The ECB said it was aware that “we have some transgender cricketers playing county cricket out there”.

Let me guess.

They are all male, playing in the women's game.

That £20 million investment in the women's league really has erm, inspired some people.

NotBadConsidering · 18/08/2019 09:16

The tweets weren’t protected when I read that story and looked earlier.

AnotherNightWatering · 18/08/2019 10:15

I feel a bit sorry for Maxine being singled out, as Maxine's only abiding by the ludicrous rules.

And I guess it's in Kent's interests to use the best players they can get away with. These are the stats for the player in the county championship.
ecbwcountychampionship.play-cricket.com/website/player_stats_widget/batting_stats/4374604

And Maxine's history of playing, all recorded here under her new name.
www.play-cricket.com/website/player_stats_widget/batting_stats/3968168

I'd like to know who exactly passed these guidelines, and the exact steps that were gone through.

littlbrowndog · 18/08/2019 10:19

Yeah but a woman misses out when this happens.

No place on team.

AnotherNightWatering · 18/08/2019 10:31

Absolutely! I feel livid about this. Kent's done very well this season
www.kentcricket.co.uk/news/match-preview-kent-women-vs-sussex-women/
Maxine gets a mention in the article, but I don't think she's in the team photo.
"Kent’s Maxine Blythin currently sits eighth in the tournament’s batting rankings with 161 runs in five matches at 40.25, including 51 not out against Hampshire at Polo Farm on 19th May."

S1naidSucks · 18/08/2019 10:32

I don’t have one ounce of sympathy, as a female will have lost a place on that woman’s team, due to someone they would have stood absolutely no chance against. My sympathy stands with all the females in women’s sports who have lost the opportunity to take part or win medals, due to a rule that is ridiculously unfair.

All these people would be mediocre players on men’s teams, but due to the physical advantages of having larger male lung capacity, larger hearts, thicker and stronger muscle mass and bones, not to mention male socialism, the women have no chance against them. They would be wilfully ignorant to be unaware of those advantages over females, so as fair as I’m aware are no better than a woman who takes performance enhancing drugs, in order to unfairly beat women at sports. Ironically a woman who identifies as a man would never be permitted to play, if they were taking testosterone, as that would be considered cheating.

AnotherNightWatering · 18/08/2019 11:02

Yes, you're right. I was just talking to DH, who is a big cricket fan, and has found it all very difficult to believe. The first thing he said was, how he'd be cringing at the embarrassment of taking a woman's place, as it was cheating!

I just don't understand how this isn't bigger news. The change has kind of slithered in under the radar. There was no publicity until the Fair Play for Women tweet...

ShootsFruitAndLeaves · 18/08/2019 11:14

"I feel a bit sorry for Maxine being singled out, as Maxine's only abiding by the ludicrous rules. "

You don't think Maxine should feel a twinge of guilt at playing for 10 years on men's teams, playing for both men and women's teams at the same time (man on Saturday, woman on Sunday), and going from playing at an irrelevant level of men's cricket (Kent third division men's central) to the champion English county team, and now inline for a payout as the women's game goes professional.

All while being 6'4" tall, a height virtually unheard of for women.

ShootsFruitAndLeaves · 18/08/2019 11:15

and LARPing as a lesbian, obvs.

littlbrowndog · 18/08/2019 11:21

Oh ffs playing as a man one day then a woman next time

Who the actual fuck does that

Then getting a pay out. Depriving a woman of pay out

ShootsFruitAndLeaves · 18/08/2019 11:22

Some Tweets on Twitter about Maxine

'Maxine Blythin is a good find for Kent - played to her strenghts - a solid forward defence - and ran hard to keep things ticking over - gave them a backbone where last year's Kent would have gone into their shells and/ or collapsed.'

'But I was particularly impressed by the fielding of Maxine Blythin in the deep. Very tall, quick runner with a powerful arm and made two really good catches.'

'Maxine Blythin definitely one to watch out for - saw her play at Beckenham against Warwickshire. I predict that she‘ll play for England Women.'

Tweets about Max Blythin's 8 years in men's cricket - zero, none, irrelevant non entity

ShootsFruitAndLeaves · 18/08/2019 11:26

He scored 4 as a man

www.play-cricket.com/website/results/2957294

Then she scored 71 and bowled a full 10 overs the next day

ShootsFruitAndLeaves · 18/08/2019 11:28

Must be the new Pips Bunce.

I wonder if they make boxes in pink.

koshkat · 18/08/2019 11:32

This person is a disgrace. The absolute front of them to take a place from a woman. they should be ashamed of themselves but hey...male entitlement...what a horror show this all is.

midcenturylegs · 18/08/2019 11:40

I am so mad at all of this (mum of district cricket player DD who wants to try out for a certain County team this winter).

Any clues on what to do?

andyoldlabour · 18/08/2019 11:47

I am pretty disgusted about all this. Maxine was playing for Sheldwich Cricket Club (mens) in the Kent village cricket league in 2017, and was scoring regular centuries. I played in this league around 20 years ago and there are some good teams. Maxine was hitting regular centuries for Sheldwich.

www.play-cricket.com/website/player_stats_widget/batting_stats/3968168

www.play-cricket.com/website/results/2884366

Maxine's current batting average taken at face value is simply phenomenal, but the hrsh reality is that Maxine is enjoying all the benefits of a male body, so can use a heavier bat than women, meaning that the lighter ball will be finding the shorter boundaries more often.
This whole situation is a complete disgrace.

ShootsFruitAndLeaves · 18/08/2019 12:14

Actually Maxine's average is only phenomenonal in club cricket. In county cricket it's a bit below the England team clubmates

AngeloMysterioso · 18/08/2019 12:15

Just mentioned this to DH who is a big cricket fan- “Oh good, so you’re just gonna have blokes chucking 80-90 mile an hour balls down at women, that’s gonna be fair isn’t it?!”

We disagree on most political issues but this is one we’re absolutely on the same page on!

That change in “Maxine”’s stats is unbelievable- avg in one season has gone from 47.83 to 97.59, runs from 287 to 1659!!

ShootsFruitAndLeaves · 18/08/2019 12:16

It does seem that Maxine is on the fringe of England contention, which would mean reducing testosterone to a low male level (five times the high female level)

midcenturylegs · 18/08/2019 12:26

Have never thought I'd say this but I sort of wish the Daily Mail would pick this thread up! As a PP has said there's been far too little publicity over this..
