The English Cricket Board sells out women's cricket

Women's cricket is now open to transwomen, who don't even have to reduce testosterone unless wanting to be considered for international games. For the domestic game the ECB is using the 'social model', having, of course, been advised in their decision-making by Stonewall. I don't even like cricket, but this wholesale ignoring of the Equality Act 2010 has made me furious!

If this really is about equality, then surely the ECB must invest exactly the same cash on the women's game as the men's game?

Female players must be paid precisely the same as their male counterparts?

Because the ECB is so passionate about equality, right?

Or do they invest heavily in the men's game, remunerate male players greatly and chuck a few crumbs in the women's direction?

So difficult to know.

NotBadConsidering · 18/08/2019 12:44

The fact that Maxine was playing both men’s and women’s cricket on the same weekend clearly demonstrates that trans people are in no way excluded from participating in cricket. In fact, it demonstrates that the team of men must have been fully accepting of Maxine’s trans status as they would have surely known Maxine was playing for the women’s team on the Sunday.

Somewhere in Kent there is a woman who has been unable to represent her county but won’t have been able to say anything because “transphobia”. This woman has missed out and I hope she gets the chance in the future.

koshkat · 18/08/2019 12:56

If he ends up playing for England then a wider audience will be peaktransed. Bring it on.

BadgertheBodger · 18/08/2019 12:58

It’s absolutely maddening, especially in a sport which supposedly takes such pride in fairness and “the spirit of cricket”. How can the inclusion of Maxine be fair? The ECB know it’s not fair. The problem seems to be that they just don’t give a shit. Only wimmin’s sport getting ruined hey, why should anyone care about that Angry

koshkat · 18/08/2019 13:07

Yes. Despite winning the world cup, women's cricketers do not matter a jot to the ECB misogynists.

NotAtMyAge · 18/08/2019 14:38

Our outrage is shared by almost every comment writer under the Times article. The sole exception (an obvious trans ally, if not actually trans) garnered no sympathy or agreement whatsoever. The general public knows this is blatantly unfair.

People who comment might agree, but the average person is just not interested until it affects them, which it will in the end

Two articles today, and the number of comments at 3pm

"Trans player puts cricketers on the back foot" - 55 comments

A reminder yesterday of the brutal reality of cricket at the highest level. Watch the slow-motion replay if you dare:

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/cricket/49382532

(And that's what can happen to the best batsman in the world.)

koshkat · 18/08/2019 16:57

Yes bloody scary. Archer is quite some bowler.

Popchyk · 18/08/2019 18:57

Lord Patel of Bradford, he of the "let's invite convicted killer Mark/Karen Jones to advise the House of Lords on transgender issues" is on the board of the English and Welsh Cricket Board.

Lord Patel has a company which aims to promote "equality". It is called Community Innovations Enterprise which seems an odd mix of a company.

Got a £93K grant in 2016 to look into the mental health of ex-service people, but now seems to be moving more into the equality and diversity gravy train.

BadgertheBodger · 18/08/2019 20:31

Fucking hell Popchyk. I am absolutely terrified sometimes about the absolute clusterfuck that is our government. Everything so intertwined, people actively making arrangements which will personally benefit them, people with so much power they’re drunk on it. It’s in his interests isn’t it, to promote “inclusion” in cricket. Presumably his company can then go round and “advise” local cricket teams. For added bonus, men like him are quite often the type of man who thinks it’s hilarious that women lose out, we deserve to don’t we because of feminism and being man-haters who brought this on ourselves what with our pesky campaigning for equality. Hahahaha yeah they want equality well here’s some fucking equality, here’s some men to play on your cricket team and make sure your sport dies. Sorry. Not coherent. But I am so bloody angry about this. It’s abhorrent.

Popchyk · 18/08/2019 21:07

The ECB board is interesting.

At the beginning of 2018, it had 11 men and 2 women on its board.

In 2019, it now has 8 men and 4 women, presumably partly in response to its gender pay gap disclosures (86% of the highest earning quartile are men). So much for equality, right? Hypocrites.

All of the women are non-executive directors. The men take the real positions on the board.

ECB Gender Pay Gap Report 2018

The report solemnly states that the ECB intends to "transform women and girls' cricket" and to "identify and empower female leaders".

Their transgender guidelines state that "female" means anyone who is either biologically female or biologically male. It does, however, exclude those women who identify as non-binary from being female.

The ECB is a Stonewall Diversity Champion.

BadgertheBodger · 18/08/2019 21:11

The ECB is a Stonewall Diversity Champion

Of course it fucking is Hmm

koshkat · 18/08/2019 21:21

Is it wrong of me to wonder how many of the 4 women are women?

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 18/08/2019 23:37

I liked this particular comment under the Times story, from a male username incidentally:

Another day, another batch of trans stories. When will the authorities realise that "the policy of self-identification with no medical requirement" is at the root of many of the current difficulties. To most people, being allowed to simply choose or indeed alternate gender as readily as changing your underwear is ludicrous.

People are starting to take notice. Or at least I hope so.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 18/08/2019 23:58

ShootsFruitAndLeaves I took part of your post at 11.14 and tweeted it to a BBC journalist who's trying to interview MB. Hope you don't mind.

Nothingcomesforfree · 19/08/2019 12:11

This is incredible. How the actual fuck can you go from playing on a mans team one day to a woman’s team the very next?
Surely the whole point of having two teams is, well, having two teams?

ShootsFruitAndLeaves · 20/08/2019 17:43

Maxine is STILL playing for men's teams in 2019

here for Chesham CC

Another article in the Times today with a chorus of condemnation in the comments.

England womens coach Mark Robinson has been told he has resigned.

Some voices now demanding he be replaced by a woman.

Sexnotgender · 20/08/2019 20:08

Haven’t seen a single woke comment on that article. Interesting.

midcenturylegs · 20/08/2019 20:08

@ShootsFruitAndLeaves "Maxine is STILL playing for men's teams in 2019

here for Chesham CC"

I've never actually (before this thread, as it's personal because my daughter plays cricket) posted in any Feminist posts before. I am successful in the engineering industry, have a thick skin, tell my misogynistic bastard ex to FO when often necessary. I think I need educating..

I have a long time ex who played for Bucks CC years ago (he played for my home country county team for a bit). Am thinking I might contact him. See what his view are.

Grrr. So fucked off at this.
Any ideas about what to do - write to MPs etc?

Sexnotgender · 20/08/2019 20:18

Welcome to feminism midcenturylegs!

Write to your MP by all means but chances are they’ll have drunk the koolaid too. Speak to your daughters cricket club. Speak to as many parents as possible. Spread the word.

SheWhoMustBeSilent · 20/08/2019 20:21

@midcenturylegs

Does your name mean you were always "Out" via Leg Before Wicket having achieved 50 runs? Wink
