@MNHQ / anyone

I've seen this tweet and wondering if it's verifiable a) that MN had a commercial contract that's ending and b) if yes, that's anything to do with transphobia?

The twitter thread references *@BirdsEye and @BirdsEye*UK

mobile.twitter.com/DadTrans/status/1122121214351290368

Growing-up-trans. @DadTrans

Parents of trans kids telling companies how much it hurts to see their advertising associated with transphobia works. Delighted to be able to buy
@BirdsEye fishfingers again after they confirmed they're no longer in a business relationship with #Mumsnet the #transphobia brand.

Hmmm, I wonder how many parents of trans kids there are, compared with the, um, 12 million unique users per month on here.

howmanyleftfeet · 28/04/2019 01:39

Well if that's true I'm not buying bird's eye fish fingers anymore if that's true.

Fish fingers are one of the few things my youngest will reliably eat, we buy loads of them.

I wonder how many transactivists eat? Not many, I'd hazard a guess.

EeveePHD · 28/04/2019 01:50

Good on Birdseye!

GirlDownUnder · 28/04/2019 01:50

Yeah I'm sceptical because that email screen shot is very light on details and doesn't show a company name. I also can't see anything on either of the BirdsEye twitter accounts.

Maybe I should report my OP to Mumsnet and see if they answer?

OP posts:
EeveePHD · 28/04/2019 01:57

Go for it, interested in the response.

MetroFly · 28/04/2019 02:03

I'll no longer buy birdseye if it's true.

Shutting down healthy debate is not fucking on, and MN do delete any posts that 'aren't in the spirit' of the site.

JaneJeffer · 28/04/2019 02:07

Looks like it had already ended so nothing to do with MN being transphobic which it isn't in any case.

GirlDownUnder · 28/04/2019 02:16

nothing to do with MN being transphobic

Which is what I'm mainly sceptical about. That twitter feed and screen shot looks like spin to me.

I've reported my OP anyway.

HerFemaleness · 28/04/2019 02:26

There's nothing in that 'email' to suggest it comes from a person working at Birdseye. The person who tweeted it confesses to not being the one to contact Birdseye. I can't think of any reason why I shouldn't file this under 'probable TRA bullshit'.

Trans people's lives are not up for debate.

MetroFly · 28/04/2019 02:56

But woman's rights are? Course, silly me 🙄

ZebrasAreBras · 28/04/2019 03:01

Women's rights are human rights.

Women's rights are not up for debate.

The definition of woman is not up for debate.

Transwomen are not women.

Oh look, we can do the mantra thing too!

GirlDownUnder · 28/04/2019 03:20

Zebra is that like a Preying Mantra.... Grin

emwithme · 28/04/2019 04:43

I can easily stop buying Birds Eye, just like I don't use Ocado over this...

GirlDownUnder · 28/04/2019 04:50

em I'm not convinced that this is a fact - I'm pretty sure (hopeful) it's just spin by TRAs.

I've reported my OP but I'll not really expect an answer as it's the middle of the night in the UK. Hopefully MN will let us know.

If it's a false assertion by TRAs, is it in any way illegal?

DoctorDread · 28/04/2019 05:48

Watching with interest

emwithme · 28/04/2019 09:01

girl I hope so too. I like Birds Eye. But this is a hill I'm prepared to die on.

I'd like a response from @MNHQ too

howmanyleftfeet · 28/04/2019 09:13

@EeveePHD I'm genuinely curious, which post caused you to feel you needed to repeat the trans lives are not up for debate mantra?

I don't see anyone talking about "trans lives" I see people talking about fish fingers and birds eye!

The only post I can see discussing trans people at all is this one:

"Trans Kids”

They’ll never have an orgasm

Did that cause you to want us to shut up?

Why do you want to suppress this information? Don't you think young people and their parents deserve to know that by starting transition young, with puberty blockers, they are risking never being able to orgasm / have a functional sex life?

BogglesGoggles · 28/04/2019 09:15

Does anyone on mumsnet actually feed their kids that crap though?

FlightPack · 28/04/2019 09:20

Yes. All part of a mixed diet. Yesterday I fed myself a birds eye fish finger wrap for lunch, with salad and mayonnaise. I too am sceptical about that email. Doesn't look legit but who knows.

HumberElla · 28/04/2019 09:21

I’d be willing to bet that this is just a time limited contract that has naturally run its course and completed. Of course TRAs will be very keen to use it to their own advantage and claim it as a ‘victory’.

Especially unbelievable that it’s a direct result of TRA lobbying as Birdseye have spent most of the last year replying Potato to any twitter bullying.

If I’m wrong, I’d like to know though. my chest freezer full of Birdseye products may well dwindle in that case.

Outofexcuses · 28/04/2019 09:21

BogglesGoggles
No. I would never waste them on my children.

feelingverylazytoday · 28/04/2019 09:22

Boggles fish fingers aren't crap. They're fish in a breadcrumb coating.
I would imagine plenty of posters on mumsnet buy them for their kids.
I don't buy brands though, it's Sainsburys basics for me and my daughter.
