@MNHQ / anyone

I've seen this tweet and wondering if it's verifiable a) that MN had a commercial contract that's ending and b) if yes, that's anything to do with transphobia?

The twitter thread references *@BirdsEye and @BirdsEye*UK

mobile.twitter.com/DadTrans/status/1122121214351290368

Growing-up-trans. @DadTrans

Parents of trans kids telling companies how much it hurts to see their advertising associated with transphobia works. Delighted to be able to buy
@BirdsEye fishfingers again after they confirmed they're no longer in a business relationship with #Mumsnet the #transphobia brand.

BirdsEye no longer in a business relationship with Mumsnet re transphobia - unverified

Notice that Birdseye have very carefully not said a word about transactivism or anything. They've just said a contract has come to an end, and not got involved.

If advertisers are pulling out of Mumsnet because of this and have been since at least last November, wouldn't Mumsnet have shut these boards down?

MrsKrabbapple · 28/04/2019 09:25

Tesco petit poi's are much, much better than Birds Eye. So it's no sacrifice.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 28/04/2019 09:25

CRAP!!! Lol
Let's go proper mumsnet and have a massive fight about it.

I'm sure the contract has just run it's course. It's pretty normal and standard. TRAs need everything to be about them.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 28/04/2019 09:27

They do realise that it wouldn’t have been a lifetime contract?

When you do tie ins or promos there is a length of time you commit the campaign to.

Or are they just being stupid?

nauticant · 28/04/2019 09:28

Ha @ Outofexcuses.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 28/04/2019 09:29

I make my own fish fingers. So ya boo sucks anyway.

Wheresmyvagina · 28/04/2019 09:31

If Birdseye had ended the contract because of 'transphobia' they would have done it months ago when all the TRAs were creating shit. This is nothing to do with mumsnet's position on trans issues.

nauticant · 28/04/2019 09:32

I don't often have fish fingers but in a white bread sandwich, with ketchup, they are the supreme hangover food.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 28/04/2019 09:35

I’d love to see that Cap’n character as a woman (a real one). Shouldn’t it be Blokeseye?

MockerstheFeManist · 28/04/2019 09:39

I don't beleive fish have fingers.

InTheHeatofLisbon · 28/04/2019 09:41

I too enjoy a fish finger sandwich. However, Sainsbury's ones are just as good, I don't tend to buy brands anyway.

It's all got a bit ridiculous now hasn't it? "Ooh you're nasty so you can't have chicken nuggets".

Aye if ye say so.

If trans lives aren't up for debate, why all the noise and aggression, redefining just about everything with shiny new definitions designed to suit the activists and rape threats then?

Not that that's a debate, it's become a dictatorship where women are punished for defining ourselves as women!

Fucking ludicrous.

HandsOffMyRights · 28/04/2019 09:43

Poor try.

Which kids? The kids of the 17 year old Gamergate MRAs or the grown up children of the 55 year old cross dressing AGPs? I think a pack of 10 fish fingers should suffice.

Meanwhile, there are the genuine millions of mothers on MN. Our purchasing power.

owlonabike · 28/04/2019 09:44

Ooh, you’ve just reminded me, DH is going away so I can eat white bread fish finger butties as often as I want.

LangCleg · 28/04/2019 09:45

LOL! You have to hand it to the AWAs. They are masters of obfuscation and spin. Peter Mandelson could take a lesson or two from them!

BANNER HEADLINE! TIME LIMITED CORPORATE BRANDING DEAL COMES TO AN END! TAKE THAT, TERFS!

(Banned word used as irony. That's still allowed, right?!)

moonrises · 28/04/2019 09:51

mockers Barry the fish has fingers.

I do quite like my chicken chargrill, but this is the master of spin as far as I am concerned.

TheInebriati · 28/04/2019 10:06

This is Mumsnet encapsulated into one handy thread Grin

GirlDownUnder · 28/04/2019 10:12

I don't beleive fish have fingers.

OMG! Who ate all the fishes fingers!?

OP posts:
GirlDownUnder · 28/04/2019 10:13

On another note - advertising works, I’m having fish fingers for dinner tonight Grin

OP posts:
GirlDownUnder · 28/04/2019 10:16

irony allowed?

BS fekko you don't make them

You identify as a penguin
If you don't eat your fish raw I'm disgusted

Cwenthryth · 28/04/2019 10:17

I recall there was a TRA Twitter pile-on targetting Birdseye a while ago, because of their association with Mumsnet/accusations of ‘transphobia’. Birdseye Twitter just responded to every post with ‘potato’ didn’t they?

KatvonHostileExtremist · 28/04/2019 10:17

Potatoes are transphobic

GabrielleNelson · 28/04/2019 10:19

I'm too much of a cheapskate thrifty to buy branded goods for the most part, but last year when Birdseye ignored all the transtrums about the Mumsnet tie-up I bought some Birdseye products for the freezer as a gesture of thanks. If it did turn out to be true that Birdseye backed away from MN because a few blue-haired vegans made a fuss, there will be no more gestures from me!

(Frankly, Birdseye would not go under as a result - but I imagine many MNers buy a lot more Birdseye products than I do.)

Melroses · 28/04/2019 10:22

I like fish fingers. I have some in the freezer that I have now remembered Grin

Fish fingers were one of the very few things fussy eater DS would eat. I once gave him cold fish fingers for a packed lunch on a playgroup trip because he didn't eat sandwiches. Saved the day Grin

KatvonHostileExtremist · 28/04/2019 10:23

They just want to claim a victory where there isn't one.

I really don't like touching fish. I much prefer it frozen and smelless. Do I need tu get a grip?
