@MNHQ / anyone

I've seen this tweet and wondering if it's verifiable a) that MN had a commercial contract that's ending and b) if yes, that's anything to do with transphobia?

The twitter thread references *@BirdsEye and @BirdsEye*UK

Growing-up-trans. @DadTrans

Parents of trans kids telling companies how much it hurts to see their advertising associated with transphobia works. Delighted to be able to buy
@BirdsEye fishfingers again after they confirmed they're no longer in a business relationship with #Mumsnet the #transphobia brand.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/04/2019 13:09

Shouldn't that be, "fin ice" ? Wink

WitchfinderGeneralHarrumph · 29/04/2019 13:25

Codswallop.

MrsSteveMcDonald · 29/04/2019 13:45

You won't catch me doing any fish puns, they just aren't my kind of fin

FreezerBird · 29/04/2019 14:00

Any word from Amber Rudd, Nicola Sturgeon or Emily Thornback Ray?

GirlDownUnder · 29/04/2019 15:09

I’ve asked Mumsnet to update the thread when they have an answer

My e-mail:

Hi Lily

Thanks for looking in to this for me.

I’m in Oz so logging off now; if you do get any feedback today can you please update the thread?

If you have a look at it, you’ll see it’s of interest a-monk mumsneters (and theirs are better fish-puns, my attempt was a pile of carp, sorry).

Thanks

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 29/04/2019 20:52

I'm sure MNHQ are a dab hand at fending off troublemakers by now Grin

GirlDownUnder · 29/04/2019 22:04

MN update to say no update but punny

In response to my request to update the thread, Dawn replied:

Will do. Rest assured if we have any news, we won't be koi about it. On the other hand, we won't carp on...;-)

All the best,
Dawn

OMC this thread is comedy genius.

SecondRow · 29/04/2019 22:44

What is it you're angling for here, OP? I bet BirdsEye have had it up to the gills with this stuff. They thought they were off the hook after the potato business...

SophoclesTheFox · 29/04/2019 23:11

We’re krilling it Grin

Brill-iant!

GirlDownUnder · 29/04/2019 23:41

What is it you're angling for here, OP?

The spin seemed a bit fishy to me, and if we've been maligned I’d like to see the perp walk the plankton for that.

Never trust unlicensed tweats – always check they’re o-fish-al!

Jolly good shoal, OP.

*Confirmation from Twitter that this is real

Although I do t want to be reeled in, so I'll just leave this here, and await feedback from @MNHQ

Josie King. @JosieKingBooks

I can confirm that this is genuine. The letter was to me. I am a mum to a lovely trans daughter and immediately boycotted Birds Eye when I saw the badge. I wrote to the CEO of Birds Eye when I got an unacceptable response from their marketing dept.

Hey Josie, I wasn't questioning the genuineness of the email (I read it else where), I was only pointing out that I wouldn't be surprised if mumsnetters claim its fake.

I realise that if the email was from the CEO (by proxy) to Josie King it still doesn't show that the contact was ended because of transphobia, it only confirms the contract ended, and is designed to mollify and probably hoping to avoid turtle disaster.

GirlDownUnder · 30/04/2019 05:58

And please excuse my missing n in the first post and missing r in the second. If you didn't notice, please don't go looking BlushGrin

OP posts:
2BthatUnnoticed · 30/04/2019 06:34

So it wasn’t flake news! I don’t blame Birdseye for wanting to stay out of it, personally. Their email was very carefully drafted to not offend anyone.

What I don’t get though... what is said on MN seems more in line with the trans community’s preferences than on many websites (eg use of pronouns etc).. so why do people focus on MN so much and not other sites? (Not sure this is appropriate place to ask, please disregard if not)

RuffleCrow · 30/04/2019 06:43

Good.
I'll stick to own-brand. Ultimately these advertisers are shooting themselves in the foot - unless TRA/MRA money is replacing and exceeding what MNers would have spent on Fish Fingers Hmm

SophoclesTheFox · 30/04/2019 07:02

I’m not sure that’s quite the killer evidence of Birdseye Hates Transphobes that the twitter user seems to think it is!

2B, I think it’s just your old fashioned misogyny at the root of this urgent need to shut Mumsnet up. Mummies are supposed to talk about nappies and prams, they’re supposed to be nurturing and put others first, and they’re not qualified to have opinions on anything except household cleaning products. The non compliance here is utterly baffling when you expect all mums to be YOUR mum.

Women talking together about male behaviour is always perceived as a threat by those that aren’t likely to come well out of those conversations...

KatvonHostileExtremist · 30/04/2019 07:12

Of course birds eye aren't / were never against trans rights. No company sits around being against trans rights. You might think you're the centre of the universe but you're really not.
There is a discussion about conflicting rights. Although obviously you don't like it.

No company would be expected to advertise with another forever. It's fine.

Now to weave in a fish pun.....🤔
