@MNHQ / anyone

I've seen this tweet and wondering if it's verifiable a) that MN had a commercial contract that's ending and b) if yes, that's anything to do with transphobia?

The twitter thread references *@BirdsEye and @BirdsEye*UK

mobile.twitter.com/DadTrans/status/1122121214351290368

Growing-up-trans. @DadTrans

Parents of trans kids telling companies how much it hurts to see their advertising associated with transphobia works. Delighted to be able to buy
@BirdsEye fishfingers again after they confirmed they're no longer in a business relationship with #Mumsnet the #transphobia brand.

* MN Response *

I reported:
Hi MN Please see my OP - it looks like a twitter user is saying BirdsEye ended its commercial contract with you because of transphobia. Can you advise / comment further? Cheers.

The reply from Lily MNHQ:
Thanks for getting in touch.
We'll take a look but unlikely we'll be able to get back to you today.

Thanks for the reply @Lily and hope it doesn’t contravene rules to share it.

I don’t usually add salt to my food but I’ll take this with a large pinch. I’m sure if Birdseye had ended the contract because of ‘transphobia’ they would’ve been passing go and collecting woke cookies. I have seen no such virtue signalling so I’ll just assume it’s bullshit until proved otherwise. 🥔 Anyway I don’t buy Birdseye fishfingers because the own brand ones cost less and are just as good. I do buy the peas however because they come in a zip lock bag. No more peas rolling around the bottom of my freezer.

NotTerfNorCis · 28/04/2019 10:34

Reading that letter - assuming it's genuine- it says the contract ended last year, but not why? Could be any reason.

Justhadathought · 28/04/2019 10:38

Trans people's lives are not up for debate.

Every ideology is up for debate in a democracy. If you don't use it, you'll lose it. Critical thinking is a required skill for full participation.

Doesn't sound like a horribly, embarrassing scandal that's been reverberating around Mumsnet Towers for days, does it?

TRAs talking crap again.

Justhadathought · 28/04/2019 10:41

Yes. All part of a mixed diet. Yesterday I fed myself a birds eye fish finger wrap for lunch, with salad and mayonnaise. I too am sceptical about that email. Doesn't look legit but who knows.

I've always been veggie and so have my children, and a good alternative option to fish fingers is vegetable fingers. Same sort of product. Freezer section.

NotBadConsidering · 28/04/2019 10:46

Ha, I’ve been deleted for the first time. It seems pointing out prioritising frozen food over the inevitable sexual dysfunction that results from puberty blockers and hormone treatment made someone unhappy. I feel like a Tom Cruise quote here...

GirlDownUnder · 28/04/2019 10:49

Datun if it is untrue (highly likely), would the tweet I’ve linked be an illegal statement?

Yes I have been deleted too, it is looks like the monitors are out in force this morning .

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 28/04/2019 11:11

I wound find this hard to believe after their respons last time to TRA nonsense. Much more likely the contract ended and has not as of yet been renewed for whatever reason.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 28/04/2019 11:13

If Birdseye had ended the contract because of 'transphobia' they would have done it months ago when all the TRAs were creating shit. This is nothing to do with mumsnet's position on trans issues.

Also this, of course. The pressure was ramped up as far as possible not long ago and all they got was 'potato'. Birdseye have not suddenly decided MN is just full of bigots and ended their contract over that.

Datun · 28/04/2019 11:18

GirlDownUnder

The email could quite easily be authentic. Otherwise, yes i'm sure it will be illegal.

However, the relationship is not being changed because of transphobia. That TRA is making that up, or spinning it.

Mumsnet must have clients come and go all the time.

It's pathetic that these people want to go on Twitter and say it must be because of transphobia.

As someone pointed out upthread, potatoes with the (always comedic) anatomy of a man, are now transphobic. 🤣🤣🤣

The whole country is getting sick to death of the very word. Another own goal.

MockerstheFeManist · 28/04/2019 11:27

I can reveal that Cap'n Birdseye is currently in a relationship with Aunt Bessie, after Mr Kipling left her for a fancy French tart.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 28/04/2019 11:32

You used to be able to get battered fish balls

They were yum...no idea why they stopped being made

And you used to be able to get potato balls

Then if you served them with peas you could just watch the toddlers attempt to pin them down with those stupid plastic toddler forks

Great fun

Lidl do amazing big luxury fish fingers! Much nicer than BirdsEye!

AlwaysComingHome · 28/04/2019 11:35

I don't beleive fish have fingers.

I don’t believe chickens have nuggets either.

MockerstheFeManist · 28/04/2019 11:41

Battered fish need a refuge.

2BthatUnnoticed · 28/04/2019 11:42

Evee of course trans lives are not up for debate. Trans people should have the same rights as anyone else, and live happy lives.

The trans people I know are well-paid professionals in a supportive work place. They are not under attack, they are (rightly) celebrated. No one is debating their right to exist at all.

Self-ID (if it becomes law) will impact negatively on girls. This is not due to genuine trans women. It is due to the “cis” men that will take advantage and enter female spaces, because they know we cannot question them.

Men already try to do this; self-ID will just make it much easier. There is a particular offender population (of men.. again not talking about TW here) who is willing self-ID to go through. This has to be discussed.

Sorry I’ve gone a bit off track Blush Am watching with interest.

InTheHeatofLisbon · 28/04/2019 11:44

This! It's been my standpoint from the beginning. The trans rights movement has been hijacked and I am utterly stunned that so many people can't see it.
