This whole hate speech/incident law is completely out of control. This is sinister.

Posted this data protection cockup by Humberside police on another thread:

The Julia H-B show is wonderful. She's wasted on radio as she's so entertaining to watch. I used to live in South Yorks and can confirm the police were useless. We had drug deals going on outside our flats, outside the nursery school in broad daylight. The cops weren't interested.

GlorianaCervixia · 23/01/2019 23:45

The Spectator is following up on this. Expect the usual deafening silence from The Guardian et al

Excellent news.

Report to Room 101 immediately.

I'm glad to hear Harry is not going to let this lie. I'm sure it must be worrying for both him and has family. This is the sort of thing that needs wider attention. Obviously being careful to ensure the privacy of Harry and his family. Maybe something similar to the guardian songs hashtag but with limericks.

JFC we really are in bizarro world now. How did this happen?

I did notice one reply under Harry's thread mention the Hadron Collider testing may have shifted us into a parallel universe. That made me laugh albeit nervously. While exploring various internet rabbit holes, I was thinking how/when/why this insanity took hold of society. Due to my love of conspiracy theories, I confess this did cross my mind 😂

As did the thought that minor lsd experimentation in my younger days has resulted in the mother of all flashbacks and I've been on a bad trip for the past 18 months 😜. Don't do drugs kids.

HawayMan · 24/01/2019 00:02

Is that Harry's real photo? Or is it an anonymous account?

QuietContraryMary · 24/01/2019 00:12

The account is not exactly anonymous, no.

Danaquestionseverything · 24/01/2019 00:21

Bit rusty on my limerick's but here goes:

Our brave ally named Harry the Owl
From the thought police did fall foul
He retweeted a poem
They're surveilling his home
But he ain't one to throw in the towel

Ereshkigal · 24/01/2019 00:26

Yes mine upthread also rhymed Owl and foul Grin

There once was a man called the Owl
Whose "likes" made a TRA scowl
They reported hate crime
Police gave it some time
Which for free speech really was foul

Danaquestionseverything · 24/01/2019 00:28

Awesome. It does limit rhymes a tad. At least he's not Harry the Orange or we'd be stuffed.

bluescreen · 24/01/2019 00:50

A tweeter called Harry the Owl
repeated a limerick most foul
and was warned that the rhyme
might amount to a crime

  • a complaint laid on him by a troll with a trowel
Shock
Carowiththegoodhair · 24/01/2019 01:15

Beyond incandescent about this Angry

Danaquestionseverything · 24/01/2019 01:28

As well you should be Caro.

Yeahnahyeah · 24/01/2019 05:06

Yes Caro I thought of you straight away. Where are the journalists to write about these differing treatments by police. Flowers

littlbrowndog · 24/01/2019 09:14

Yeps Caroline
I thought of you as well

HairyLittlePoet · 24/01/2019 09:21

There once was a copper from Hull
Whose caseload was terribly dull
So he made his new mission
policing cognition
And now extracts crimes from your skull

arranbubonicplague · 24/01/2019 09:53

applause to HairyLittlePoet and the other limerick makers!

Popchyk · 24/01/2019 09:54

I see Detective Chief Superintendent Lisa Atkinson - Head of Crime Humberside Police states that they are a Stonewall Ally in their Twitter bio.

arranbubonicplague · 24/01/2019 09:55

I can't locate it - but we had a thread in which we discussed some LGBTQ+ training in which a trainer claimed to be able to detect when somebody had wrong (i.e. transphobic) thoughts even if their actions were conforming to instructions.

Head of Crime Humberside Police states that they are a Stonewall Ally in their Twitter bio.

Stonewall's overall engagement is being questioned by people who used to be its staunchest allies for decades - it will take a lot for people to dissociate and will be as big a wrench as it was when women left Oxfam/Amnesty etc.

But, it has to be done. At some point the corporate sponsors and others are going to have to investigate their reputational risk.

BeUpStanding · 24/01/2019 10:07

There is a current narrative that there is rising levels of transphobia in UK as a consequence of 'transphobic hot beds' such as Mumsnet etc & Conservatve Govt not implementing self-id GRA
The police data of reported transphobic 'hate crimes' will be used to validate this.

That is an extremely pertinent point and we should keep repeating it. The state has been weaponised by the police collecting statistics on incidents that ARE NOT A CRIME, and no doubt that data will then be used to support policies and changes in law that clamp down on anyone who will not agree TWAW.

If evidence is available to show this is happening could it be subjected to a Judicial review?

Datun · 24/01/2019 10:16

The name Stonewall now fills me with contempt. It's immediate.

And I don't even feel as though there are a few bad apples. I think it's rotten to the core, from the outside in.

(And just to keep with the fruit theme, I'm sure I can work bananas into that).
