Absolutely shocked (and wasn’t sure I still could be) by her thread this morning about the abuse she’s endured, including acts of physical intimidation, covert bullying and vandalism. twitter.com/GoonerProf/status/1070158128837246977?s=20 Fuckers.

It is a strong statement. But that's all it is.

The university has to take responsibility for not stepping in before this.

And it has to act now.

HumberElla · 06/12/2018 19:31

I hope Rosa can take some heart from that statement. Courage Rosa (and Chloe). Now let’s see Reading back up their words with action.

ToeToToe · 06/12/2018 19:52

I think that's a strong statement from the university - in terms of supporting free speech.

Although, I have to say, it's a sign of the times that when any institution issues a statement other than "Terfs out" - I'm grateful Hmm It should be a given that universities allow freedom of expression, argument and ideas.

Popchyk · 06/12/2018 20:04

Action, not words.

And if they do try to discipline any of the people responsible, there will be a tidal wave of TRA rage for the university to look forward to.

rightreckoner · 06/12/2018 20:26

@ChloeHouston79, you have absolutely no need to clarify your meaning with the women here, certainly not me. You did a brave thing and I am sure all of us on this thread are grateful to you for standing up on this issue, particularly when it’s clear that so many others see the awfulness of what’s happening but are keeping their heads down.

My comment was born out of frustration with the BBC for their relentless crapness on this issue. They highlighted that bit of your commentary because that’s the only bit that makes you valid in their eyes.

It’s a sign of the rightthink we are all required to demonstrate that we have to be ever so accommodating and apologetic before we may take the huge risk of saying ‘it’s not ok to harrass and abuse a woman for her ideas’

Thank you again chloe. And bon courage to you all in academia.

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 06/12/2018 20:37

That's a very good statement from Prof Freedman.

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 06/12/2018 20:38

Thank you for standing up for her ChloeH - we all think you are very brave 💐

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 06/12/2018 20:39

ChloeH - it would be nice to see some back up from your male colleagues though

SmileEachDay · 06/12/2018 20:39

Have started a thread about his, but posting here also... www.change.org/p/dawn-butler-mp-parliament-uk-remove-stephanie-dale-as-labour-town-councillor-for-sleaford-north-hykeham

SmileEachDay · 06/12/2018 20:41

Yes indeed Ms

Thanks for signing.

rightreckoner · 06/12/2018 20:42

Adrian Lester retweeted Rosa’s thread yesterday. The retweet seems to have been deleted Angry

ProfessionalBarren · 06/12/2018 20:47

Has Rosa gone off Twitter altogether?

Yep she is one courageous woman 💐

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 06/12/2018 22:04

Humm . Maybe we could send actual flowers to her work? Or, would that be weird? Humm..

arranbubonicplague · 06/12/2018 22:08

Maybe we could send actual flowers to her work?

Rosa Freedman is away, according to this.

PSA: Prof Rosa Freedman is doing field research and can’t be on Twitter right now (day job preventing sexual exploitation and abuse in conflict and crisis zones). Reckon she will be back online when she returns to England.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 06/12/2018 22:14

Rosa is off Twitter for a bit on field work. But she was beyond amazing today at Scottish parliament.

ToeToToe · 06/12/2018 22:14

Oh no, she's gone off twitter?!

Rosa, I'm proud to be among so many women here who support you and applaud your bravery Thanks

BingBongSong · 06/12/2018 22:25

Thanks for the thread. I'm appalled at this very male type of behaviour - the territorial pissing and the harassment over the phone. I think we all know how it feels to be afraid when walking at night.

I hope Rosa is OK. Flowers for you, if you are reading. You are a brave woman.
