Absolutely shocked (and wasn’t sure I still could be) by her thread this morning about the abuse she’s endured, including acts of physical intimidation, covert bullying and vandalism. twitter.com/GoonerProf/status/1070158128837246977?s=20 Fuckers.

They want to be us - women

I don't think TRAs do want to be us. From everything I've seen of them, I believe them to be MRAs who are driven to fury by the cognitive dissonance of on one hand loathing women, but on the other being attracted to us. They want us to either be compelled to provide them with sex or to be annihilated.

ChewyLouie · 05/12/2018 08:59

This is disgraceful and the University needs to be held to account. Prof Freedman is an employee at her place of work , her workplace needs to be implement a zero tolerance policy against intimidation yang any student violating this should be held to account. At the moment it seems many universities are willing to support male aggression towards women and I’d really like to understand why they have taken this stance. The police need to be notified and a complaint made for every single incident.

The leadership at these institutions really need to make a stand

Yes, they fucking do. I'm beyond furious this morning.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 05/12/2018 09:04

University management needs to be making some strong and unequivocal statements that this is not acceptable and putting protection in place if necessary.

LangCleg · 05/12/2018 09:05

I've been coming slowly to the conclusion that TRAs are creating a "better" category of women. They are pushing female people out and under. They're simply gatecrashing and colonising the category "woman".

I agree. Which is why I find appropriation of woman far, far worse than any misgendering bollocks.

Gilead in lipstick. They don't want to be us. They want to be our Commanders.

OrchidInTheSun · 05/12/2018 09:05

Yes I think you're right too. It's terrifying

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 05/12/2018 09:10

I think for some of the TRAs it is more related to toxic masculinity and the sink or swim logic embedded in it. For some who couldn't swim in the initial pool, this has given them a second chance at dominating - getting what they feel is their due as males in society.

That coupled with resentment that they see when they look around them that no one really believes they are what they say they are. Probably because this type of TRA are aggressively masculine in their behaviour.

And as well as us it's shit for the non TRA trans people who completely disagree with all this, who are sheltering from the toxic masculinity rather than embodying 'masculinity on steroids' and yet get tarred with the same brush.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 05/12/2018 09:11

This is shocking! Her place of employment absolutely should take a zero tolerance approach to this intimidation and threatening behaviour.

HumberElla · 05/12/2018 09:13

Leadership at these institutions appears very weak indeed. I think now that Universities are run as businesses now the only way they will change and stand up for their workforce is if students demand it. The Universities I work with (indirectly) will fall over themselves to avoid complaints from students that might affect their ratings. Vocal students will therefore be very effective at getting their own way over and above staff.
My thoughts are with Rosa today.

deepwatersolo · 05/12/2018 09:17

Given the link between certain sections of the Labour party, misogyny and anti-Semitism, I suspect it is because she's Jewish.

I actually do not think it is motivated by her being Jewish, but really 'just' by her being an outspoken woman who has expertise in the field, and therefore has credibility and great potential impact.

That said, considering how during NAZI rule Jews were forced to clean up streets on their knees with toothbrushes in public, and Jewish shop fronts were being marked and vandalized (including being pissed at, I bet) and the owners had to clean their shop fronts and doors afterwards, this leaves a particularly bad taste in my mouth.

Ok, my days as a student are long gone but how do we encourage female students ( customers) at unis to take a stand against this and make complaints against this insanity. If I had kids at uni I’d be having a conversation with them about this over the Xmas hols. If I was paying uni fees on my kids’ behalf I’d definitely be asking questions of the Uni directly!

Mumfun · 05/12/2018 09:24

So angry this morning. Have contacted a Professor friend at Reading Uni to ask what we can do and to help

Rattinghat · 05/12/2018 09:27

They want to be us - women
Yet they really really don’t like us - women

These extremists remind me of Ed Gein, the guy who dug up women and made them into skin suits and masks.

heresyandwitchcraft · 05/12/2018 09:28

Rosa Flowers
I have no words to describe how upset this makes me.

HumberElla · 05/12/2018 09:40

Students need to condemn the bullying and intimidation. Students need to contact the university formally to complain and be demanding a response. Female students who may feel unsafe on campus after incidents like this should be asking how the university is addressing their approach to student safety.
The most powerful tool is of course £££ because this is what students are to Universities nowadays- walking pound signs. Parents and grandparents or anyone paying fees should be writing to their University and saying they have heard of this incident and what are THEY doing to protect your paying student.
Women are 50% of their customer base. That’s powerful.

arranbubonicplague · 05/12/2018 09:57

Yes. We must never be duped into confusing inclusion, incursion, intrusion, and invasion because these are the steps for which the endgame is submission, occupation and subjugation.

Utterly bizarre Twitter conversation between Michael Conroy and the Uni of Reading Mansplainers and Mysogynists Communists and Anarchists:

MC Men (however young) with obscured faces, amplifying each other’s ignorant entitlement, gathered to silence & intimidate women, are doing a thing called #misogyny

You look like abusers. Seek help before it’s too late.
... (MC offers to discuss it with them)

Thing is, you’d have to not be connected with active harassers - like the people who make rape threats or urinate on doors, anonymous phone calls etc
That’s beyond the pale.

UoRCA We're absolutely not associated with those people. We condemn their actions and are currently working to try and find out who it was and put a stop to it. We support peaceful protest and not abuse
... [When asked why they wore masks.]

Wasn't just men, and we hide them to protect our members from abuse at the hands of anti-trans activists xoxo
---[When challenged that the women are pro-women and would reject the absurd characterisation of 'anti-trans']

Their tweets seem to disagree. Thinly veiled transphobia does nothing to further the cause of feminism

twitter.com/UoR_CAS/status/1070244584800817152

So, there you have it. Minimising, DARVO, mansplaining self-serving justification, and instructing women how to feminist better. Anything missing?

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 05/12/2018 10:26

what does xoxo mean?

Confused

i mean I know it's the least of the issues with that exchange, but I like to be clear Grin

littlbrowndog · 05/12/2018 10:46

Hugs and kisses

HollowTalk · 05/12/2018 10:46

I've just read all that - it's absolutely horrific. There should be police action on this.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 05/12/2018 10:49

Hugs and kisses ?

well that's just weird

and what have 'anti-trans activists' actually done to any trans people?

I'd love to know precisely why trans people are afraid to stand behind their views and actions? who has been physically attacked? who has had their work contacted about nothing other than their privately held opinions?

LangCleg · 05/12/2018 10:53

and what have 'anti-trans activists' actually done to any trans people

Laugh at them on Twitter when they make arses of themselves on the radio.

NotYourCisterinAus · 05/12/2018 10:53

I just read that thread. It's horrifying. And surely thjs type of behavior is also terrorism?
