What's with all the transgender hate?

I'm new to this and have been looking at the feminism chat and there seems to be so much hate and fear about transgender people! What's that about? And apparently you can't be a feminist and be accepting of transgender people, that just seems ludicrous to me, surely feminism is about equality, I am not pretending to be particularly knowledgeable on the trans subject, but i do think having equality for transgender people is nothing but a positive thing. Has anyone actually been personally negatively affected by a transgender person? Or is it all a theoretical fear?

Yeah, and not even people whose opinions you don’t like - just people who have questions! Got a question? Are a philosophy lecturer and want to pontificate? Think it’s a good idea to be cautious? You’re a hateful bigot, end of story.

I get the desire to be on the right side of history, I feel that way too. But that desire has meant monumental mistakes on the left before (NCLU and PIE, anyone? Looking back it seems impossible that anyone on the left would have argued for the rights of paedophiles, but that’s exactly what happened). Major changes to the way society functions and protects the vulnerable need to be considered carefully from every angle. That does not make you a bigot.

Late to the, um, party and struggling to understand why Eagle thinks that women should not be concerned about the make up of the board of directors.

Girls see society and mould expectations accordingly. We know that women have historically limited their ambition because of a lack of role models. And now?

Well, it's OK women, because we have good-time girl Pips rocking the fishnets. And hopefully, the House of Commons will also be similarly stuffed with women who used to be men (or still are Mon - Thurs).

Back in the bad old days, when all the bosses were men we could protest and ask what about us and our representation? But now we can't do that, because we're being told that Pips and Martine are just the same as us because TWAW!

But being a woman who used to be a man is not really ever a physical option for an actual woman. So our girls are as excluded as ever but this time patriarchal society can pretend it's not an issue. Look, if we end up with half our highest paid executives wearing a frock, there's no "gender" pay gap (even if most of them have penises and stubble)!

So yes, I do bloody care about CEOs! As well as women in prison and Girl Guides etc.

So Langcleg, which part is bigoted?

Sorry, sarcasm fail.

No, Lang is saying that according to the TRA dogma, supporting trans rights but believing those things makes you a transphobic bigot.

This is, indeed, what I was saying.

I'm getting my GFs mixed up. Was Eagle the one who thinks we need men in women's writing groups because otherwise we'll all just write about doing the ironing?

I had to call DP to find out where the iron was, that's how often I do the ironing.

I was a bit 'Meh' when I started reading these threads; I had cared for several Transwomen (am a ex-Nurse). They all just wanted a quiet life; one of them once said to me 'It's not that I want to be a woman; but I know I can't live as a man and there's only 2 choices'.

Then I had the pleasure of meeting a TRA; and I started to realise that's there really is a big difference between them.
