Just want to register my appreciation of his support of women.

He takes shit from TRAs day after day and his threads are brilliant. I know and he knows and acknowledges that women get far more abuse than he or any other man does for posting gender critical opinions and I thank him for acknowledging this fact too. A great man.

Thanks Graham. And Father Ted never stops being genius.

Why would anyone choose Owen Jones over Graham Linehan?

Difficult choice. On the one hand, a warm, funny, generous, brave man who co-wrote one of the finest ever television sitcoms. On the other, a misogynistic, self-absorbed narcissist whose main specialism is childish temper tantrums if anyone disagrees with him.

"Graham Linehan, the co-writer of Father Ted, has been given a verbal harassment warning by West Yorkshire police following a complaint by a transgender activist that he “trolled” her.

Linehan, who declined to comment last night, was visited by police following the allegation by Stephanie Hayden, with whom he has clashed on Twitter. Originally from Dublin, the writer currently lives in Norwich.

On Friday he locked his Twitter account citing “abuse and harassment” as the reason. In the same tweet, Linehan highlighted a petition he had signed calling on Stonewall, an LGBT charity, to acknowledge the conflict that exists between “transgenderism and sex-based women’s rights”. The petition calls for a “respectful debate” on the issue, and contends that Stonewall is failing to recognise the diversity of viewpoints on transgender issues, including among LGBT people.

I'm well aware of where it comes from, I just don't understand why decided to type it in such a condescending manner.

This is being reported on Sky and BBC now. In both cases it reads as though warning was for dead-naming and mid-pronouning.

Saskia - it was all in caps which is universally acknowledged to be shouting, i.e. with excitement, i.e. 'GO GRAHAM LINEHAM!.

And if you are concerned about the Irish accent, you should know that my partner and I are both of Irish hetitage and we find it hilarious to shout that catchphrase in a heavy accent.

Jesus christ. Who called the comedy police? This is a supportive thread to say 'well done Graham for being such a vocal and prominent ally'.

Also, thanks for the excellent comedy over the years that has produced so many eminently quotable (albeit mangled by myself, apols) lines. You are a hero.

Father Ted still makes me cry laughing, even though I’ve watched it so many times. Eldest daughter is 13, just about old enough for FT now. The joy!
Anyway, it is very cheering that people I respect are speaking out on this. Mr Linehan you are a comedy genius and we love you.
