Graham Linehan Appreciation Thread

Just want to register my appreciation of his support of women.

He takes shit from TRAs day after day and his threads are brilliant. I know and he knows and acknowledges that women get far more abuse than he or any other man does for posting gender critical opinions and I thank him for acknowledging this fact too. A great man.

Thanks Graham. And Father Ted never stops being genius.

“I read that as capitulation from Shayden.
“

I wouldn’t believe daylight from that person, tbf

KatVonGulag · 06/10/2018 19:52

Such a brave man. His wife got a good one there.

I hate those bullies

Needmoresleep · 06/10/2018 19:55

A real hero. There is a time when you have to stick up for what is right. At least you should, though on this issue not many seem willing to.

So big respect. He should not be being put through what he is.

HairyPotter · 06/10/2018 20:01

Thank you Graham, I know you must be under tremendous pressure to bow down, but I am so grateful you are on our side.

Will happily chuck money at a crowdfunder to support you Flowers

Vforviennetta · 06/10/2018 20:10

I love Graham linehan, a truly decent human being, as well as an excellent writer, Father Ted and IT crowd are in my top 5. Pretty sure I read somewhere that he is a pixies fan too Grin

Anyone know if Richard Herring is inclined either way on this debate? I don't really do Twitter, but I know he does his international women's day thing every year. I love him/rhlstp and would be surprised if he was a woke bro.

ShackUp · 06/10/2018 20:13

I've loved Graham since his character in Alan Partridge was nice to Lynn when she wanted to talk about her childhood holidays in Ireland Grin

You're a friend to the sisterhood, Graham, thank you for everything Star

WineCheeseSleep · 06/10/2018 20:16

I don't remember Richard Herring commenting either way on it. He's pretty sharp, I'm sure he'll have a view one way or another, and my feeling would be he's more of a Glinner than an Owen Jones.

WomanLifeIsGoodish · 06/10/2018 20:20

Graham - I really hope you read this thread as I sincerely thank you for your support.

And for The Work Outing episode of The IT Crowd.

It is twenty odd minutes of perfection.

UpstartCrow · 06/10/2018 20:25

Richard Herring deleted a comment asking women what we want men to support them on, after I answered 'single sex spaces and services such as Rape Crisis and hospital wards'.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 06/10/2018 20:25

Flowers for Graham

i'm sorry you're going through so much shit

Floisme · 06/10/2018 20:32

More Flowers for you Graham, and for your wife. And thank you.

As for Owen Jones he'd better watch out - I saw some TRAs moaning about him on Twitter the other day.... It doesn't matter what you do it's never enough.

HalloumiGus · 06/10/2018 20:35

Graham I support you, for what it's worth. I hope more people are listening to you. I hope you can gather some powerful allies who will stand beside you. I tried to follow your Twitter but I understand why you've locked it down. But you are not alone. I really hope this marks a turning point.

waterlego6064 · 06/10/2018 20:38

There are quite a few celebrities/comedians who I would expect to have an opinion on this in line with Graham’s; and many of them aren’t commenting. Which is fair enough really when you see what happened to Graham, Posie, Alison Moyet etc. But it must feel very lonely for those who are sticking their necks out.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 06/10/2018 20:49

Just adding another voice of support for Glinner and his family. He's been through a personal shit storm this year and I can't imagine how hard this onslaught has been to cap it off. Flowers

Serfisafleur · 06/10/2018 20:59

It's shocking, really. A load of TRA autobots forcing a decent man out of public life.
Us women have had this for our lifetimes but it's sickening to see it happening to an ally.

Destinysdaughter · 06/10/2018 21:20

If MN gave awards for our male allies in this battle both him and James Kirkup would win the top prize. So grateful to both of them. And so angry at all of those that could have said something but chose to prioritise their own comfort instead. It’s real, ordinary women risking everything right now...

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 06/10/2018 22:24

Luke and Ryan Hart are getting it on the sports angle. I'm about to follow to see if they have a wider take on trans issues (I know their focus is male violence) but this is great anyway.

speakingwoman · 06/10/2018 22:26

Thank you (both)

Barbadosgirl · 06/10/2018 22:34

Here's to Graham!

GenderApostate · 06/10/2018 22:41

Richard Herring said he views TW as Women but that he defended Graham’s right to a different opinion iirc a few months ago.

hipsterfun · 06/10/2018 22:44

I’d put money on him applying the ‘relationship purposes’ exemption.

arranfan · 06/10/2018 22:45

is it my female socialisation wanting a male protector or white knight to come to our rescue?

Holding out for a Hero works well with:

Shero (tho' I dislike the word)

Athena (for Hercules)

"Isn't there a skjaldmær upon a fiery steed?"

"It's gonna take a Amazon/Valkyrie to sweep me off my feet."

Doobydoobeedoo · 06/10/2018 22:47

Cheers, Graham.

Hope things settle down a bit for you soon. Star

MsMcWoodle · 06/10/2018 23:31

Love you Graham. Big snogs. Bit drunk here,

SnipSnipMisterBurgess · 06/10/2018 23:38

Graham; for Father Ted alone I’d have you knighted.

Not sure where Graham stands on ‘the national question’ and honours from the Queen! (Beside the point, I know)

For those of you not in Ireland, Glinner and his wife, as you may know, spoke eloquently and openly on the TFMR (travelling for medical reasons) issue prior to the abortion referendum in Ireland, recounting their personal story.

Complaints made to the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, regarding ‘a lack of balance’ ie the anti-abortion voice was not given equal time (to ‘debate’ or countermand their personal experience - like wtf ShockHmm) were UPHELD in 2016 - see here:
www.google.ie/amp/s/amp.independent.ie/entertainment/radio/complaint-upheld-by-bai-over-ray-darcy-interview-with-father-ted-writer-graham-linehan-and-his-wife-helen-about-abortion-34746064.html

A man speaking up for women’s rights always has a difficult path to navigate. A man with huge popular appeal as a comic treasure stepped up to do so, and i am sorry to read he has felt he had to step down from Twitter, totally understandably. In the abortion rights campaign, similar was experienced by well-known women (Tara Flynn, for example). I am conscious that I may not be wording this correctly, but it is a small bit validating when well-known men who have spoken up for women’s rights are seen to be bullied off feminist issues just as well-known women have been, to know that it’s not just us: we have allies, influential ones, popular ones, men with a big following. We need more Glinners to help cut through. I hope Mr and Mrs Glinner are well, and I am sorry they’ve experienced hatred and flaming, not once but twice. Brave people. Flowers
