Graham Linehan Appreciation Thread

BraveAndStunning · 26/08/2018 16:41

Just want to register my appreciation of his support of women.

He takes shit from TRAs day after day and his threads are brilliant. I know and he knows and acknowledges that women get far more abuse than he or any other man does for posting gender critical opinions and I thank him for acknowledging this fact too. A great man.

Thanks Graham. And Father Ted never stops being genius.

Current thread in twitter

I'm not onTwitter, so only read the odd comment mostly via MN, but this chap is great.
Father Ted is also one of my all time favourite TV shows. It's doubly great when someone whose work & humour you admire seems to be a good 'un in real life too.

IAmALamp · 29/08/2018 23:38

Thank you graham.

Mermoose · 30/08/2018 15:37

I signed up just to add to this. Graham, if you see this - thank you so much. I feel like my mouth has been sewn up. I can't believe the abuse I see women get when they speak up about this. I'm in Ireland and it is driving me crazy how self-satisfied the guys I know are. A while ago I posted on my Facebook page about what it's like to walk alone at night if you're a woman - how, if you look behind you and the only other person on the road is a woman, you feel safer, but if it's a man, you feel scared. The same guys who liked and fawned over that post now attack women who question self id. Thank you for being one of very very few Irish blokes I know who's copped on to the misogyny of this. I honestly think the reason that others haven't is that their much-paraded feminism was never feminism to begin with.

Popchyk · 30/08/2018 15:44

Graham is a Star.

He linked to this on Twitter:

katu.com/news/local/deputies-arrest-woman-kadin-moore-who-said-she-was-playing-a-prank-when-she-pulled-gun-on-strangers

Deputies arrest woman who said she was playing a prank when she pulled gun on strangers

You'll never believe this.

Because it never happens, right?

Turns out the person was male.

Bowlofbabelfish · 30/08/2018 16:56

A thoroughly decent human being. Just adding my voice to the chorus of thanks.

Worth reading down to the bottom.

SunsetBeetch · 30/08/2018 18:01

Ah just seen this that he posted yesterday. He really gets it.

"I don’t think it’s a coincidence that at a moment when women and PoC were beginning to make progress in the form of greater representation in public life, a group of white men suddenly decided they were the most oppressed group of all time"

SunsetBeetch · 30/08/2018 18:14

In fact that whole twitter thread is good.

StarWarsHolidaySpecial · 31/08/2018 07:05

I always think of the above when people say some women have penises...

It's got the body of a spider but it's actually a baby doesn't sound that laughable when you have people saying 'the body of a man but actually a woman'.

Datun · 31/08/2018 08:40

Just been browsing Graham's timeline, and I'm stuck again how he has to put up with so much shit. (I know everyone who takes on this ideology does).

This wasn't even the worst one, but it just struck me - the poster calling him a hate filled sack of shit. Even I, on my sofa, metaphorically, wiped the spittle off my face sprayed from that painful bit of projection.

Another stunning thread Grin

Melamin · 31/08/2018 09:43

Starwars Graham has a really good sense of the absurd.

(That is probably why he is such a good comedy writer Grin )

ScienceRoar · 31/08/2018 10:23

Go Graham! I know what you mean, those of you too afraid to like Graham's comments publicly - with a few exceptions, the most outspoken GC feminists on Twitter use pseudonyms.
I have liked and replied to his tweets using my real name, without any death threats, or even name calling. Sadly, my husband said that I am coming across as 'a bit of a bigot', which (goddammit!!!) was effective in subduing me somewhat. I asked what I had said specifically that sounded bigoted and he replied, "Nothing, it's more the tone".
Anyway, my tips for avoiding death and rape threats include: speak 'their' language (eg. avoid deliberate "misgendering"), this only makes derails the conversation. Surname only will do if you need to refer to someone. Ask questions more than you offer refutations. Be aware that anything you say on Twitter can be held against you.

SomeonesRealName · 31/08/2018 19:38

Absolutely cannot thank you enough. Second everything that’s been said. It means so much to have you in our corner.

stephLDS18 · 02/09/2018 14:44

"David Icke of Mumsnet". Someone got in right on Twitter this morning lol!

Twenty1 · 02/09/2018 14:56

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6123737/Gordon-Brown-demands-Labour-FINALLY-adopt-definition-anti-Semitism.html

He said: 'Would you produce a document on sexism produced by men only?

Anyone on Twitter care to enlighten Mr Brown? That like the Greens, Labour has done just that, no consultation of labour females over AWSL.

TheSteveMilliband · 02/09/2018 15:16

Thought exactly the same - hooray, Gordon Brown wading into the gender debate!
Love him, who knows - maybe?

takeonmetakemeon · 02/09/2018 16:26

I overheard a conversation on a train this week between two well dressed, professional looking men.

One of them said something about Father Ted and the other one said "I used to like that but one of the writers is really transphobic. He's on Twitter saying transwomen are men for NO REASON at all."

No reason?!

2BorNot2Bvocal · 03/09/2018 12:33

Nails it again.
twitter.com/Glinner/status/1036546615002193921

pachyderm · 03/09/2018 13:17

I love him too. I'm Irish and it's so heartening to see the woke bullying arseholes who dominate Irish Twitter get all hurt and baffled when Glinner (who has done some fine work for the pro-choice movement) doesn't toe the party line. "I hear you're a transphobe now, Father", yeah Graham's NEVER heard that one before, yawn....They have no arguments, just nothing.

Bowlofbabelfish · 03/09/2018 13:23

Ahhh Harrop. A doctor who uses the word ‘cretin’ to abuse others. Such a charmer.

SirVixofVixHall · 03/09/2018 13:27

It is horrifying to think that Harrop works in the NHS. He clearly hates women.

HavingALittleBabyToolshed · 03/09/2018 13:34

Loving Hadley Freeman getting in there too!

Datun · 03/09/2018 13:42

It's the superiority and the finger wagging. It almost doesn't matter what he says. The aggression emanates unchecked.

happygolurkey · 03/09/2018 20:31

I'm not on twitter either but check out Graham's tweets every day - keeps me sane. And yes, he does take so much shit. Feel so grateful he is speaking out on this. Hope he is back to full health soon after his chemo.
am a huge Father Ted fan too - the one comedy sure to always cheer me up no matter how low I am feeling!!
