Graham Linehan Appreciation Thread

Just want to register my appreciation of his support of women.

He takes shit from TRAs day after day and his threads are brilliant. I know and he knows and acknowledges that women get far more abuse than he or any other man does for posting gender critical opinions and I thank him for acknowledging this fact too. A great man.

Thanks Graham. And Father Ted never stops being genius.

Interesting to see how all the interchangeable woke beard males have now decided that men shouldn't be talking about feminism/telling women what a woman is, having spent the past 3 years doing it themselves.

Oscarino · 27/08/2018 10:45

Graham you’re a star!

Melanippe · 27/08/2018 12:42

Alicethroughtheblackmirror

Just for you and not because it's my actual favourite thing

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 27/08/2018 12:59

Melanippe

Thank you. It never fails to reduce me to tears of laughter! I'm always disappointed if Eurovision doesn't have one MLH style entry!

Raspberry88 · 27/08/2018 13:42

I also wanted to say thank you to Graham Flowers I am on twitter, liking and occasionally commenting but am just a lurker on the GC threads here as everyone says things much better than I can. Just wanted to say how impressed I am with his bravery in sticking his head above the parapet on this and agree how disappointing it is that so few others with influence are prepared to! Also need to say that DH is also delighted to find that Graham talks sense and wants me to rehow much he enjoyed The Walshes and is always talking about going for an 'early bird.'

TheSteveMilliband · 27/08/2018 13:50

Another huge thanks for speaking up and supporting women Graham. Haven't used mumsnet except to lurk much lately but have started dipping my toes in the water of gender critical Twitter and have huge admiration for the way you accept no bullshit and say what for so many is unspeakable.

On another note, I've often wondered what Caitlin Moran really thinks, I find it hard to square her feminism with uncritical acceptance of trans ideology.

ReluctantCamper · 27/08/2018 14:14

I’m not normally up for the threads where we thank men for basically being decent human beings, but I think what Graham is doing goes beyond that. So thank you.

Also Black Books is a work of genius

Anyone want to see my Cobumbo impression?

MawkishTwaddle · 27/08/2018 14:50

Thanks Graham.

stephLDS18 · 27/08/2018 14:51

He has just libelled someone on Twitter. Not very clever is he?

LadybirdsAreBirds · 27/08/2018 14:54

TheSteve

Suzanne Moore too. She's of an age to just not accept this sort of nonsense

nauticant · 27/08/2018 15:28

Out of interest, is there any proof that David Challenor was a co-creator of Terfblocker?

terryleather · 27/08/2018 15:46

Not trying to be goady but I don't know why Caitlin Moran would be in any way GC - she's got funfem written right through her like a stick of rock inho.

If she came out as GC I'd genuinely be surprised.

Suzanne Moore was at the centre of the stooshie at The Guardian a while back that caused Julie Burchill to come out swinging in her defence and all woke hell really did break loose! I don't imagine SM will be up for wading in again on this topic but we can live in hope...just don't mention Brazilian transsexuals...

comehomemax · 27/08/2018 22:09

I can't like your tweets publicly - too risky. Know that you have thousands of invisible ones every tweet

Yeah, me too. I’ve been worried about my adopted child’s placement as I had to supply my LA with my social media details during the approval process. I do make comments and support with likes but I’m mindful of a woke bro type sitting reading them and deciding my child might be better moved elsewhere. I’d almost convinced myself I was being paranoid till I read the criticism of a LA in the family court for allowing a mother to coerce her very young boy to dress and live as a girl because she was convinced the boy was trans. They had actively facilitated the mothers position against warnings and concerns from other organisations.

Anyway, I love reading glinners posts because he isn’t so easy to dismiss as he has the “right” opinions on other stuff so you can see the genuine puzzlement from some that he isn’t “on the right side of history” on this one. I hope it makes some people wonder why.

But most of all, I’m extraordinarily grateful to the awesome women on these boards that have driven these conversations publicly - the women on this board are amazing and I’m in awe of them.

thebewilderness · 27/08/2018 22:30

I am grateful that he uses his platform to speak against misogyny.
I despair that there are so few men who do.

InionEile · 27/08/2018 22:44

'Is that you, Graham Linehan? I hear you're a TERF now, Graham, is that right? Should we all be TERFs now? It's just the farm takes up most of me time and in the evening I do like a cup of tea...'
Grin

Seriously though, he is a hero for taking the flak that he takes on Twitter. And he is not homophobic or transphobic or abusive in any way. The average person on the street probably would agree more with Graham Linehan than they would agree with the radical TRAs. He is just stating the truth and exposing the silencing of women by fringe activists.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 28/08/2018 00:28

Thank you Graham. Have some Mumsnet Flowers

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 28/08/2018 07:36

Not trying to be goady but I don't know why Caitlin Moran would be in any way GC - she's got funfem written right through her like a stick of rock inho

Absolutely - and I think on about page 3 of How To Be A Woman she says as if it's obvious fact that Germain Greer is WRONG!!!!! about trans WOMEN!!!!!!

Datun · 28/08/2018 08:51

Thank you Graham, you are an inspiration, proving again and again that NAMALT.

It's interesting that the men who instantly jumped to the NAMALT defence, are rarely those to whom it applies.

You're doing a great job, Graham. It takes a certain amount of mental strength to withstand the negativity, so thank you.

You may not get threats of rape, but the constant insults must be wearing.

On the other hand, it just serves to cement one's position, most of the time. TRAs are twits.

Cheers.

IndominusRex · 28/08/2018 10:55

Glad to see someone else mention The Walshes. The opening sequence of that with the bath and the gravy remains one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

SirVixofVixHall · 28/08/2018 11:04

Graham is a brave man with a big heart . I am so grateful to him for sticking his neck out on this. It is clear that he cares about women and children, and he’s put himself at risk by speaking out. I am too nervous to be truly vocal on twitter, I worry that as I’m there under my real name I will get threats, which I know I would find hard to cope with, particularly as I have two young daughters (11 and 13) . I’m on block lists simply for following feminists, this is such a toxic movement.

BossWitch · 28/08/2018 11:10

Thanks from me too. I follow you on twitter and like/retweet most of your tweets. Plus Father Ted and Black Books are fecking genius.

WineCheeseSleep · 28/08/2018 11:14

Thanks Graham Flowers

HouseOfMouse · 28/08/2018 11:29

I’ve been following Graham for a while now on Twitter. He is a true ally to women IMO and takes a lot of shit for speaking up in the way he does. It’s made me realise just how very few men do speak up for women.

fidgetspinner555 · 28/08/2018 22:53

I've already thanked Graham, but I want to do it again. THANK YOU!! Blimey, Fern Riddell and others like her have no flaming clue - and they're women!!! When they attack Graham, I instinctively want to tell them to F off, but can't do that on Twitter. When women - and so called feminist women have a go at him, we're in trouble. Graham - you are valued and thanked for what you do. Please. Don't. Stop. There are 1000's of us here who think you are blooming amazing.

TheCraicDealer · 28/08/2018 23:11

I'm not on twitter but when I'm in a little GC rage I google "twitter glinner" to remind myself that all is not lost. His tweets during the Irish referendum earlier in the year were as sensible and appreciated as those on this topic.

There are some insanely brave GC women out there and they deserve praise, especially given the abuse they face on a daily basis. But it would have been all to easy for Graham to sit quietly and pretend to everyone he was a cool woke bro, safe in the knowledge that this would never effect him. He's alright, Graham.
