Are we the baddies?

Are Terf's as bad as everybody seems to say?

Are we on the wrong side of history?

Anyone ever stop to ask themselves this or is it just me?

And yet here you are, arguing with us, rather than trans extremists Smile

smile15 · 11/07/2018 11:18

And Offred I mentioned my academic credentials as someone told me to educate myself haha

I will respond later as busy

smile15 · 11/07/2018 11:19

It's not irrelevant, they said they're feminists, I disagree. You do know people are allowed to disagree with you, right?

Anyway have a nice day :)

Pratchet · 11/07/2018 11:20

Bye
That was easy

Dragoncake · 11/07/2018 11:22

The problem with MumsNet users and their views on people who are transgender

All 12 million of them? That's a rather large generalisation.

I am more educated than most having done actual university funded research in gender studies that has won awards rather than the super egotistical google you're all capable of
Shock

Offred · 11/07/2018 11:23

You are aware that having degrees, publishing research, working in the area does not insulate you from ignorance?

In fact some of the statements you have made display ignorance re what people on MN are actually saying...

arranfan · 11/07/2018 11:24

"The problem with MumsNet users...Please stop demonising everyone as correctional rapists, biology denying, predatory misogynists."

That's the most obvious takeaway from a thread asking, Are we the Baddies and the self-reflection that some posters have had?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 11/07/2018 11:25

And yet here you are, arguing with feminists rather than trans extremists. Why is that?

Maybe they would laugh too much at this "I am more educated than most having done actual university funded research in gender studies that has won awards rather than the super egotistical google you're all capable of".

You are not the muffin woman are you?

UpstartCrow · 11/07/2018 11:28

Look at the number of trolls on the board, arguing that women don't actually exist other than as a feeling in a mans head, or that female DV victims are irrelevant, or that lesbians are transphobic.

Try to imagine that happening the other way round.

LangCleg · 11/07/2018 11:28

I am more educated than most having done actual university funded research in gender studies that has won awards

Yes, dear. And it addled your brain. Pomo will do that to you.

Offred · 11/07/2018 11:34

So go on, please, you have made several claims re hate and phobia and drawn an equivalence between MN and the Christian Right so make the arguments re why you feel this is justified...

Pratchet · 11/07/2018 11:36

Two runners already today, and the sun not over the yardarm

arranfan · 11/07/2018 11:42

As an aside - I've not seen others boards where these matters are discussed. Does anyone recall examples where 'credentialled posters' announced themselves and engaged in civic and civil disputation and discussion with people whom they perceived to be antagonistic?

*During the long, bitter, online vaccination/anti-vaccination discussions, I can think of many times this happened and huge walls of text and selectively-interpreted research involved. Interesting intersection of science, strong emotions, and civic participation/responsibilities.

arranfan · 11/07/2018 11:44

Actually - scrap the above from me. It was rare that there was engagement, it was dumping of screeds of dubious science and interpretation and a refusal to engage or to acknowledge that most of those claims had been refuted, retracted, or debunked.

As you were.

Pratchet · 11/07/2018 11:58

Slightly different as that was between sets of parents, here for the parenting, arguing about how to parent. These are people who say they're upset by the truths we articulate, but come anyway to goad us, insult us and tell us our opinions and consent don't matter/are bigoted/will soon be illegal.

arranfan · 11/07/2018 12:15

Pratchet - I was referring to science boards where I participated, or blogs. There were regular visits from people who had very different perspectives on particular aspects of science and research etc. but, as above, I withdrew this thought, because altho' this happened for years, I can't think of a time when such visitors engaged in civic/civil discussion or demonstrated much good faith.*

Pratchet · 11/07/2018 12:17

Excuse me - sorry!

useriop · 11/07/2018 12:25

I have 2 degrees and if that's the level of critical thinking and writing which yours enables, you should demand a refund.

arranfan · 11/07/2018 12:30

I edited myself into a complete lack of clarity, Pratchet!

As an aside, I remember when a friend was denounced as a Big Pharma shill in a book and the author had drawn up an elaborate web of conspiracy theories involving another researcher who was working in the same institute.

My friend had never heard of this chap with whom he was supposedly working in this unconscionable collaboration. Nonetheless, he looked up the floor plan and popped downstairs to introduce himself by saying (approximately), "Hello, Fellow Lizard. Let's exchange our secret New World Order handshake".

SophoclesTheFox · 11/07/2018 12:38

Quick question for you, smile

Do you think it is a feminist position to assume that the users of Mumsnet are less educated than you? Presumably because we’re “just” mothers?

I’ve three pieces of news for you there.

  1. that’s a really sexist assumption (from a feminist, no less!)
  2. we’re not all mothers. I’m not
  3. There are some very, very well educated people here. You could learn something- I know I have.
yecation · 11/07/2018 12:45

Hi @SophoclesTheFox

Not at all, I merely said that because someone told me to educate myself, when I have in fact, educated myself. So I was simply defending myself which is apparently not allowed.

Please read the thread properly before engaging.

You have made an assumption about my beliefs and twisted my words which is rude. I have not assumed that any of you are mothers and I certainly don't believe that that makes anyone less intelligent etc! What a horrible thing to suggest!

yecation · 11/07/2018 12:46

Excuse name change, wanted to post on another thread w/o others hounding me from here

Thymelord · 11/07/2018 13:01

Excuse name change, wanted to post on another thread w/o others hounding me from here

Yeah right, pull the other one. I think what you mean is "oh fuck, sock puppet fail".

yecation · 11/07/2018 13:05

Are you okay?

arranfan · 11/07/2018 13:11

Excuse name change, wanted to post on another thread w/o others hounding me from here

Has that happened to you or is it an apprehension based on something?
