A woman is an adult female human

Pratchet · 03/07/2018 10:18

Of the sex whose reproductive role is to gestate and bear young.

Let's just say this while we still can. Because it's true, and however many people try to make us lie about it, or remain silent, it will always be true.

In times of universal deceit, speaking the truth is a revolutionary act.

It hurts MY feelings to see 'transwomen are women'. It damages MY mental health to see that, it makes ME feel erased and MY identity feel destroyed. I have a voice and I deserve that voice. WE deserve it.

I am Spartacus. A woman is an adult female human. Sex is binary, immutable and defined by reproductive role.

If you report me, or get me banned you shoot the messenger. Because this is true and will always be true. And this day, this day of a lie, I WILL say it.

#Spartacus

What are you frightened of Justine? Losing the advertisers? Well without women on here the advertisers won't be paying to advertise anyway.
I'm sorry if that is offensive to you, but not being able to speak the truth is very offensive to me.

Datun · 03/07/2018 13:02

Defining womanhood by chromosomes ignores the social, legal and biological reality of many trans women's lives.

So what? This board isn't about trans people. This board is about the chromosomal XX women. (If you can think of a term for that, that doesn't break talk guidelines, go ahead and tell me.)

TerfsUp · 03/07/2018 13:03

Transwomen are not women. Transwomen are transwomen and are biologically male. Transmen are transmen and are biologically female.

Yes.

HumphreyCobblers · 03/07/2018 13:03

I feel the same AngryAttackKittens. Mumsnet has meant so very much to me over the years. It has helped me in so many ways that have improved my life. The very therapy that taught my non verbal son to speak I only know about because of this site.

I don't want to get kicked out, but I will put up with it rather than keep quiet about my biological reality compared to a transwoman's.

MaterialReality · 03/07/2018 13:04

A cherry picked deliberately trans exclusionary definition of woman is floated.

Please, please define woman in a non-'exclusionary' way for us then. Without using the word in its definition.

Ilikelotsofthinngs · 03/07/2018 13:05

This is absurd.
A woman is an adult human female. We all know this, even little kids know the difference. I will not be forced to lie and I will not be forced to define myself by lies.
Blatant lies and bollocks.
If anyone finds women talking about their own biology offensive or inflammatory they can fuck off to some other place where their delusions will be cowered to.
This is the feminist board on a forum for women.
I'm so bloody angry that of all places mumsnet is trying to silence us.
Women are women, I am Spartacus

Lottapianos · 03/07/2018 13:05

'A cherry picked deliberately trans exclusionary definition of woman is floated'

It was the BIOLOGICAL DEFINITION of woman that was 'floated'. The accepted biological term, the very actual definition of what being a woman is. You simply don't get to have a problem with that. It's reality

Smurfalicious · 03/07/2018 13:05

Defining womanhood by chromosomes ignores the social, legal and biological reality of many trans women's lives.

And what's your point?

Women are here talking about women. Why do women have to make allowances?

We're allowed to talk about women if we want to.

Pratchet · 03/07/2018 13:07

Yes thanks for the reminder and getting us back to the point Sarah. We are women, talking about women, and as no one has never come up with an alternate definition to 'adult human female' I guess that's why you get cross because you can't start a 'debate'.

OP posts:
Pratchet · 03/07/2018 13:08

That's why it's 'inflammatory'! There's nothing to debate - no way of arguing or derailing. By George I've got it.

HQ, you don't have to agree with what is being said here. Surely no one is expecting that of you?

I can't believe that there is a form of pressure that can lead you to believe that women cannot, even relentlessly and repeatedly, state the dictionary definition of the word woman.

Specifically in terms of their rights as women.

If we were to take a statistic about another protected characteristic, and just relentlessly repeat it for no reason, then I might agree (although if it was factual, that's what free speech is all about).

But this is entirely in context.

We are actually talking about women's rights and the very definition of the word woman changing.

But aren't allowed to say what our definition is, and that of the rest of the world!!

Stop it.

placemats · 03/07/2018 13:09

Civil debate?

Seriously?

So Trump I don't know where to start.

BertrandRussell · 03/07/2018 13:09

SarahAr. Please could you provide an alternative definition of "woman" please?

dinosaursandtea · 03/07/2018 13:09

Trans women are women.

placemats · 03/07/2018 13:10

You don't own the meaning of the word woman me

MrsWooster · 03/07/2018 13:11

It's unbearable: I am a woman, a biological woman, and people, including the govt minister, are taking away the definition of what I am and THERES NOTHING I CAN DO ANOUT IT.

Pythagonal · 03/07/2018 13:11

A cherry picked deliberately trans exclusionary definition of woman is floated.

As that's the definition that my OED gives, that's the one I'll stick with. Confused

BertrandRussell · 03/07/2018 13:11

Dinosaursandtea-please can you explain how you came to hold that view?

NotBadConsidering · 03/07/2018 13:12

I would like clarification on how many women are allowed to post their opinions on the same topic in one thread before it is considered “women gathering to be inflammatory” what is the number? 10 women? 5? 2? And is it across the whole of MN or just in the femism section? Is it just regarding the definition of a woman or are we no longer allowed to agree on pram choices either lest we offend graco or MacLaren?

An answer to this would be nice. Were all the people in AIBU who thought the teenage runners shouldn't have been running in the girls' race being inflammatory too?

Pratchet · 03/07/2018 13:12

Now that's what I call goady, dinosaursSmile but your sentence is meaningless as you don't know what 'trans' or 'women' mean. Come back when you've worked it out 👍

This isn't funny anymore. Too near the bone. Hit them when they fall down.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/07/2018 13:13

Please can anyone who asserts 'transwomen are women' provide their definition of 'woman'? I don't think it's conducive to civil debate to merely make an unsupported statement like that on this thread.
