@bespin, your posts are very hard to read, and make very little sense, due to your erratic use of full stops, no capital letters, etc.

I'm surprised at the number of parents and children who are happy to appear on TV. I know this isn't anything like 'i am jazz' level of exposure, but it does make me feel uneasy for all sorts of reasons.

Another big trans contradiction. We must use legislation to falsify documents so that adults (who more often than not don't 'pass') can 'go stealth' and not deal with the stress of 'outing'.

But parents should be applauded for be parading their children on mainstream media from the youngest possible ages.

Deadnaming is a sin for adults. But kids, who are much more likely to be 'passing' at least while pre pubescent, must be named constantly so we are always aware they are 'trans'.

Floorplan · 02/07/2018 19:36

Just caught up with this thread. It's definitely the biggest issue isn't it, this contrast between the kids being sterilised, medicalised for life and operated upon vs. the middle aged men donning skirts and high heels and claiming this gives them the right to change public records of birth, and then gaining entry to women's spaces for their drug-free male bodies and their uncastrated penises. Talk about having your cake and eating it.

Regarding the suicide stats (1) how have so many trans persons reached adulthood and doesn't this show that parents are being lied to (2) how can anyone really speak for why someone killed them self - how can we know the real reason for a trans persons suicide unless they left a note. Suicide is of course a complete tragedy but how can 1 and 2 be answered by the Trans community.

R0wantrees · 02/07/2018 19:38

except of course for all of those adullt TRAs who have secured prominant, influential and sometimes lucrative positions on the basis that they are transgender.

happydappy2 · 02/07/2018 19:40

There are no transgender people, there are transexuals, transvestites, cross dressers, men with sexual fetishes such as AGP. The fact they are brain washing confused pre pubescent children that they can change sex is literally insane...the internet is a dangerous place with strangers talking to kids......the fact words like transexual/transvestites are not used nowadays speaks volumes.....its all trans kids. The way T has inserted itself into LGBT was very clever, as we all accept LGB. I fear unless LGB distance themselves from the T, they will steamroller on. Ironically if T get their way their will be no L or G. It is terrifying that people in positions of power allow this to go on.

There is a direct challenge to Stonewall by Prides announced today:

scotsheather · 02/07/2018 19:44

Not to undermine what is a serious issue for childrens health, is there solid evidence that puberty blocking drugs do cause serious irreversible effects or is it just not properly tested fullstop? It would be interesting to know this before hurrying down the stop right now route and how the effects compare to the dysphoria they supposedly cure.

Floorplan · 02/07/2018 19:48

Good point Joan another abhorrent contradiction between kids and men.

If a child's family moved house and school when they changed appearance no one at all might know. However they are encouraged, it would appear, to let everyone know. This has a further disadvantage for the transitioning child: the benefits of appearing more interesting and special - even appearing on TV - will be an additional benefits associated with making the choice to complete transition after the puberty blocking phase. Kids do not deserve any kind of carrot for transitioning, it's way too important.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 02/07/2018 19:53

Then in May, Stonewall announced they were partnering with budget clothing and homeware store Primark. Primark will give 20% of the proceeds of its 2018 Pride collection to the charity.

Eh, what now? Primary is awash with rainbow clothes and flags at the moment - I saw no mention of supporting a particular charity.

Bowlofbabelfish · 02/07/2018 19:53

Not to undermine what is a serious issue for childrens health, is there solid evidence that puberty blocking drugs do cause serious irreversible effects or is it just not properly tested fullstop?

Yes there is a wealth of data showing they have very unpleasant, irreversible multisystemic side effects. The FDA is investigating the entire class of drugs in the context of adverse effects. They also have a blanket warning on them that they are not to be used in young people with coexisting mental health issues.

This isnt just a technicality (many drugs in use in children actually haven’t been tested in a formal setting.) these are powerful drugs, being used in a setting they’re not only untested in but actively contraindicated in.

Side effects include:

Sterility
Loss of 8-10 IQ points and cognitive damage
Endocrine disruption (obviously)
Metabolic disruption
Joint damage
Osteoporosis

There are many other side effects being reported as well - that list is just the stuff that’s been officially verified.

Cross sex hormones of course create sterility as well - and there will be no sperm or eggs to store or save because they will not have matured properly so these kids are genuinely sterile.
Cross sex hormones also don’t create the target sex puberty either - these young people will not in fact have a correct puberty. We don’t really know what the effects of that are because this cohort are guinea pigs. But puberty is know for example to be essential for mature brain development.

There’s also a significantly increased cancer risk with any hormone regimen.

So all in all - this is not good.

Interview with Stephanie Davies Arai from Transgender Trend discussing many of the issues with regards children and young people questioning their gender identity:

Waddlelikeapenguin · 02/07/2018 20:04

Thanks for that link Rowan

Stonewall had an income of £7,246,000 ($9,530,000, €8,184,000) last year. When their last financial year ended, on 30 September 2017, they held almost £5million ($6.6million, €5.6million) of reserves. Shock

Waddlelikeapenguin · 02/07/2018 20:06

bowl thank you for the reminder re bbc complaint Flowers

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/07/2018 20:16

Waddle, I was just about to post that! That's an enormous amount of money and the article says that many small local groups/charities supporting the LGBT community are struggling and/or going under. What is Stonewall using that very large income for? Is it just lobbying central government?

happydappy2 · 02/07/2018 20:29

This is bizarre-the yogyakarta principles advocate against adult trans women needing gender reassignment surgery to be classed as women, as this is in effect state sponsored sterilisation of men.....why do they not protect the rights of children?

imjustanerd · 02/07/2018 20:44

I'm sorry I've only read about a quarter of this thread so apologies this has already been mentioned, but how is this not a safeguarding issue?

Don't we have laws to protect children from harm? How on earth can a child consent to such a thing?
I just don't understand, the age of consent is 16 for a reason a child can not consent. So how can a child be expected to consent to taking life altering drugs? Despite what the parents say or other organisations who advocate this kind of thing surely the state has a right to intervene just like it would if a child was being groomed or having sex underage??

I just don't get it.

JoanSummers · 02/07/2018 20:46

the yogyakarta principles advocate against adult trans women needing gender reassignment surgery to be classed as women, as this is in effect state sponsored sterilisation of men.....why do they not protect the rights of children?

Another contradiction! Swedish trans identifying adults won a huge law suit against the Swedish government for requiring 'forced sterilisation' ('sex change' surgery) before they were allowed to change their sex marker on their identification documents. But our government and health service seem unconcerned about children being sterilised for the trans trend and bringing law suits of their own later??

www.cbc.ca/amp/1.4045790

Aleksa Lundberg says she didn't fully comprehend what she was giving up when she she agreed at the age of 21 to be sterilized in order to transition from male to female.

"I was way too young to understand what it means not ever being able to have children of your own. I didn't understand what I was saying yes to," the 35-year-old Swedish actress told As It Happens host Carol Off.

Lundberg is one of more than 800 transgender victims of forced sterilization in Sweden eligible to receive compensation from the government under new bill announced Monday.

..

The practice of involuntary sterilization has been widely condemned as a human rights violation, including by the United Nations.

The Swedish bill would allow an estimated 800 people to claim 225,000 crowns ($34,000 Cdn) each in compensation from the state.

The decision came after the The Swedish Federation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Rights threatened to sue the government. The group was demanding 300,000 crowns per person.

Bowlofbabelfish · 02/07/2018 20:51

but how is this not a safeguarding issue?

It is a safeguarding issue.

And yet it’s happening.

This article was published in 1999. The first line of the the comment section is quite sad when read now.

R0wantrees · 02/07/2018 21:00

May be follow on discussion tomorrow.

(I did wonder when the comment from a parent called Helen was read out... its not an especially unusual name of course.)

Link fail sorry. It's an article in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism looking at old medical studies of Skoptzy men and Chinese and Ottoman eunuchs, castrated at varying ages from prepuberty to early adulthood. The first sentence of the comment reads: "Hopefully, it will never again be possible to repeat the studies reviewed in this paper, as in more recent times we have used different means of expressing man's inhumanity to man".

Pratchet · 02/07/2018 21:14

How is this happening. YOU CAN'T CHANGE SEX. THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS HAVING AN OPPOSITE SEX BRAIN.

Save these poor kids someone.
