How will we know if we have lost good women?

loveyouradvice · 13/06/2018 20:26

I fear we will lose some of our strongest most vibrant voices, torn down by the current wordspeak policies..... Can we keep a record here of those we lose? I do NOT want to forget them.

I thought it was so telling that the GC would have happily kept all language (even the abhorrent Cis and Terf) ... while the trans-allies wanted to curtail as much speech as they possibly could....

To all strong GC voices - Please DO NOT leave us - your voice counts for more here than on any other forum.... Mumsnet is watched by the world and will be responsible for our keeping women and girls safe .... even if you have to clip your wings a little to get your message across, please hang on in here ... IT IS SO IMPORTANT

Everyone needs to check into the pub everyday
and thisGrin

AngryAttackKittens · 13/06/2018 21:44

There are other sites, even if they succeed in getting all the women whose tone certain people don't like banned here.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 13/06/2018 21:44

Its really dumb gardener

But it feels like we are alone in the pub and no one can see us Grin

(Fuck me i have issues!!)

NotAnotherJaffaCake · 13/06/2018 21:45

I’m worried if you go I won’t know where to find you. I found you lot by accident, and whilst I don’t contribute much now I know what’s going on I don’t want to lose your knowledge.

AngryAttackKittens · 13/06/2018 21:45

Search "gender critical" on Reddit, there are two separate subreddits, one larger than the other. So far the only things they've ever shut down are the incel forum and one that was posting creepshots.

Ilikelotsofthinngs · 13/06/2018 21:46

Which other sites? I only know you lot.
Reddit? netmums

PositivelyPERF · 13/06/2018 21:46

(Fuck me i have issues!!) 🤣

You’re putting me in the notion for a glass of wine. 🍷

SciFiFan2015 · 13/06/2018 21:46

I don't know how to use other sites. Can we set up an off MN mailing list to stay in touch?

Ilikelotsofthinngs · 13/06/2018 21:48

Ah OK thank you will check out the reddit. My fear is the same as jaffas.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 13/06/2018 21:50

I have that effect on people PERF Grin

I can drive a teetotaler to drink

RaininSummer · 13/06/2018 21:51

Yes we mustn't lose our great posters. Can we all sign up for reddit with recognisable names? I have just become RaininSummerMum. Or could we invent a new forum.

Theinconstantgardener · 13/06/2018 21:51

And mine. Think i will go to the pub now. Anyone care to join?Gin

BarrackerBarmer · 13/06/2018 21:52

Lovely thread. Sad though.
TheUterati banned? or on the naughty step?

Datun IS Galadriel, yes!

I've been here for quite a lot of years and seen a lot of the purges. This won't be the end.

The important thing is to CONNECT though. Outside of Mumsnet, on Facebook, on twitter. Build trust, build your circle. There are thousands of us out there who are active, and for every active poster saying the unsayable and prepared to be on the wrong side of history there are hundreds willing her on.

This is all madness and we need to weather it until it concludes.
And it will conclude.
Kids will move on and being trans will be old news. Your sexuality is what it is, but trans really is a contagious trend right now. Nothing will kill it deader as a trend than kids noticing that their uncle and next door's dad plus the local police sarge are all celebrating their transness.
And the damaged casualties will be too many to ignore. The lawsuits.
And the most toxic TRAs will one by one be emboldened to say the most dreadful things, at which point politicians will distance themselves carefully.
The whole shebang will self-destruct.
It's all utterly inevitable. All we must do is batten down the hatches and limit the damage as best we can. We'll ride it out.

AngryAttackKittens · 13/06/2018 21:55

A techy friend of mine has volunteered to make a forum if everyone here who's either bailing or about to be forced out would like one. Obviously we'd have to be figure out a way to ensure that we weren't welcoming a Trojan horse with doxxing intentions, not sure how to do that.

ScarletBegonias · 13/06/2018 21:56

Well said, Barracker.

YouStacey · 13/06/2018 21:57

What about posters with names that have TERF in them? Will they be banned for simply having that name? Shock

spartacus

Sorry just to clarify

All this 'oh we will deffo tell someone and give them a heads up' stuff they said

But they haven't given her a heads up?

Ilikelotsofthinngs · 13/06/2018 21:59

You can make private groups on Facebook but obviously the main problem with that is using real names I guess.
I suspect I already got an attack on Facebook when I joined this never happens and fair play for women pages.

Baroquehavoc · 13/06/2018 22:01

There's a good chance we are going to lose good posters with the three strikes and you're out rule. The ones who will report aren't going to be bothered about being banned themselves, they don't want to talk, just stop women talking.

I noticed that there isn't any deletions on the smear test thread, so as long as we keep the discussion around female experiences, we should be fine?

ChocEggNoThanks · 13/06/2018 22:04

It's so important to have this debate on MN. Women need a place to talk about this issue. Please don't cave in on this MN.

DailyMailClickbait · 13/06/2018 22:05

I also wondered about posting names being censored or banned.

Personally I didn't have an issue with the language terms being used. Some of them I found offensive but I recognise that people with opposing views would have found some of the terms that we use to be equally offensive. Swings and roundabouts.

I think MN is trying to strike a balance. It must be very difficult and I imagine they are under an enormous amount of pressure to shut down the debate - so it's good that they aren't doing so. I also think the banning of members who continually and maliciously report posts, is a good thing.

I am hopeful that if we carry on talking, debating, raising awareness, that this will continue to attract more publicity and more attention, which is exactly what we need. We've already seen that the mainstream media is starting to pick issues up - good coverage of Man Friday at the Hampstead Ponds, plus an article on the Connecticut women's race.

Yes very good

Although we will never know if its happening

OunceOfFlounce · 13/06/2018 22:09

Sorry, I know this isn't isn't the point of this thread and things have moved on but I just felt the need to shout out offred and bloodmagic. I'm so bad at keeping track of who says what but I think their posts have been really helpful, measured and enlightening. Would hate to lose them too

BarrackerBarmer · 13/06/2018 22:12

I think MNHQ is trying to strike a balance.
But balance isn't always what's required..
One shouldn't seek to strike a balance between the truth and lies, fact and fiction, objective and subjective.

If one group states 2+2=4 and another states 2+2=6, the happy balance isn't to conclude that 2+2=5!

You can't balance "we have the right to distinguish ourselves based upon fact" with "you don't have the right based upon my feelings".
You just have to tell one side No.

Sometimes you just have to be unpopular, but right.
