This is great - good on David Lewis. Shows the Labour Party's policy up for the nonsense it is.

If any man can say he's a woman and self identify as such.... I can't believe I am even typing these words.

It's just not possible to change your biological sex. Surely common sense is going to win through this madness?

This not just Labour!

Look at what the Conservatives have already done with the law and considering doing in the future.

Obviously he won’t get as much abuse as a woman saying she’s a woman would.

Good on him though.

Direct article comments from TRA's are strangely lacking on Jame's Twitter ....

Sadly I don't think the labour party will care if he's trying to show them up or not.

No, voters will though.

Kyanite all parties jumped into this without looking but Labour have doubled down and expelled people from the party for saying women don't have penises - where Conservatives (Maria Miller aside) are acknowledging it is more complicated than they thought and sex based exemptions are important.

I am hoping Labour will also realise reality and women matter as I would quite like the option to vote for them. Or Lib Dems even.

Hang on, I thought this was the biggest fear of the anti-trans brigade, that actual men would try to take womens positions??

But it's ok because he hates the equality laws too? Is that it?
So he becomes some sort of champion of common sense because he's acting like a smug pratt?

It's amazing how quickly a male can be elevated to some sort of saviour on these 'feminism' boards just by being a bit of a plonker.

I almost didn't look at this thread as 'Man standing as Labour Women's Officer' is so normal nowadays.

This!!

Actually Crispbutty, I have no idea whether he is a plonker or not in real life. I don't know him. But his actions do show just how easy it is to abuse the system. If he can do it, so can anyone if they so wish. Don't you agree?

He's highlighting the ludicrousness of self ID.

Labour Party can't stop him, because their policy is "anyone who says they identifies as a woman, is a woman."

He showing them up. Good for him.

No one thinks it’s ok. That’s exactly the point! We want him not to be able to do this! Confused

And we want people to realise that he should not be able to do this - before Self ID becomes law.

Nope. not even close.
Its not the feminists here who are against the equality laws, we are the ones in favour of upholding them.

I don't think Crispbutty will be rushing back to respond somehow. There's simply nothing they can say to that.

I too read quite a bit before I realised what his real intentions are.

Bloody brilliant. We need more of this so the general public can see how ludicrous Self ID is.

Oh no wait. Is he doing it to highlight the ridiculousness of self ID? If so, scrap the cunt comment

It's great to have a male version of Man Friday, although many Spectator commentators don't get it. I get sucked in to commenting when I probably shouldn't. Makes me appreciate the intelligence of Mumsnet debates. Some folk even think self ID is a feminist promoted thing! Many don't realise his comment means he doesn't actually want to win.

He wasn't trying to take a woman's place, he was testing whether the Labour Party seriously meant what it had said. He expected to be rejected.

“After I looked at the NEC position and what it really meant, I thought, I’ll put my name forward for women’s officer. After all, what’s the worst that could happen? I expected them to say, ‘don’t be silly’ and politely decline my application. But they didn’t. They accepted my candidacy as valid.”

It's the LP who are the plonkers in this story.

I suppose it's possible that whoever received his application also can see that the LPs stated position is bonkers and was happy to assist in subversion by applying the rules rather than sense.
