Dnoun, start a new thread about something that you do care about then. Something much less boring than this thread.

If the subject matter is interesting enough then people will contribute to your thread.

I'd like to clarify my boredom is with JM attention seeking once again and not the extremely important topic of self ID which will eventually affect all of us so is very definitely not boring.

Djnoun · 21/03/2018 17:56

I'm sure the answer is to ignore the hate speech that takes up reams of most active EVERY SINGLE DAY.

But no. I'm not the kind of person to avoid challenging hate speech. You shouldn't be ploughing so much of your time into hating other people and encouraging others to do so. It's corrosive.

terryleather · 21/03/2018 17:58

I'm very very fucking bored with it too, but unless/until this assault on the rights of women and girls ends I'm quite happy to put my feelz aside and fight this bs all the way...

flowersonthepiano · 21/03/2018 18:00

Djnoun, you don’t sound bored you sound angry and dismissive. I had the same gut reaction to all the “transphobia” on mumsnet as you, reading the thread titles etc. BUT, having read some of them, I am a convert. I’ve not seen any ‘I hate trans’, although there is clearly a degree of acrimony between these feminists and trans activists. Nevertheless, these women are discussing real, important issues. They have every right to do so and you have no right to shut them down. It’s not transphobia, it’s disagreement with self-ID and allowing the rights of biologically male individuals who ID as female to trump those of women.

Jon66 · 21/03/2018 18:01

You lot need to get a life. There are so many more important things going on in the uk than this.

Datun · 21/03/2018 18:01

@Djnoun

You sound very angry. It's rare for someone to be this angry over something that they don't profoundly disagree with.

So I'm assuming that you, or at least part of you, truly believes that we are being bigoted and hateful.

If you do nothing else, please take a quick look at this article.

If you genuinely believe we are in the wrong, surely one article isn't too much effort ?

fairplayforwomen.com/misogyny_hate_silencing/

If you still feel exactly the same, having read it, come back and say so.

There is a lot of evidence to it, not just opinion. Point 3.0 onwards, if you only want to skim.

Djnoun · 21/03/2018 18:02

And how, exactly, and I mean very precisely, does this tweet impinge on my rights? What is it I am now not able to do because of this tweet?

It was alluded to earlier than I'm going to end up living in a dystopia with all sexual and reproductive rights controlled by a military government force... as a result of this tweet. But I am utterly baffled as to the link between two squabbling authors and ending up living in a rape apocalypse.

Datun · 21/03/2018 18:03

You too Jon66.

Read the article, then tell us we are wrong to be concerned.

LangCleg · 21/03/2018 18:05

Why should I have to hide the entire feminism topic to avoid this shit?

Well, because why would you go to the feminism topic if you don't want to see feminism?

I mean, there are plenty of places to find the gaslighting patriarchy pretending to be feminism. Go to one of them and enjoy ur erasure as members of the gaslighting patriarchy like to put it.

Trailedanderror · 21/03/2018 18:08

I’m not bored, I’m embarrassed by this thread.
I’ve written and met with my MP, ive I’ve resigned from the Labour Party over self ID, I’m a signatory to the Morning Star letter, and I’ve supported the Swimmers.
What Mumsnet has mobilised is incredible, this cheapens and undermines it.

PositivelyPERF · 21/03/2018 18:08

I'm not the kind of person to avoid challenging hate speech.

That’s marvellous. Now be a pet and ask the TRAs to stop making threats, being abusive, gas lighting females and assaulting women, there’s a dear.

JellySlice · 21/03/2018 18:09

You lot need to get a life. There are so many more important things going on in the uk than this.

There is nothing more important than this going on in the UK right now.

Because if this GRA goes through, becomes law, it will be the most appalling and convincing demonstration that the human rights of 50% of the population can legally be taken away, discarded.

First they came....*

Djnoun · 21/03/2018 18:12

You know what I actually do is to get to know people who are trans. You know, in real life? The real world.

They're actually totally normal and lovely. Which is why reading this bile is so objectionable.

VladmirsPoutine · 21/03/2018 18:13

@Trailedanderror Why are you embarrassed by this thread and why does it cheapen and undermine the movement?

LangCleg · 21/03/2018 18:16

You know what I actually do is to get to know people who are trans. You know, in real life? The real world.

How old are you? Because I'm betting I've had a trans friend for longer than you've been alive. And they think the same as me about all this.

Djnoun · 21/03/2018 18:16

I imagine it cheapens it by being facile.

NoSquirrels · 21/03/2018 18:16

@yetanothertranswoman I was agreeing with you that the “men in dresses” line was rather offensive. But that nothing else in the tweet was.

In the last few days I’ve seen it said that the following terms are all offensive:

transsexual (outdated, its gender not sex)

transwoman (should be trans woman because you wouldn’t say gaywoman or blackwoman)

trans people (not sure why - because it’s avoiding the gender issue entirely, perhaps, so seen as misgendering?)

It’s really confusing to your average person who just wants to be inclusive- but not at the expense of giving up biology completely.

flowersonthepiano · 21/03/2018 18:17

I’ve met a couple of transwomen in real life. One was really nice, very wise. The other was quite aggressive and unpleasant. I don’t group them all as one amorphous blob. Some are pleasant, others not so much, like everyone else.

Still, I see a big problem with self ID. Don’t you?

CadyHeron · 21/03/2018 18:19

You know what I actually do is to get to know people who are trans. You know, in real life? The real world. They're actually totally normal and lovely

I know they are. You seriously cannot erase biology though, and that is what a lot of people are having a problem with.

terryleather · 21/03/2018 18:20

This is not about your friend, however lovely they may be.

It's about the silencing of women and girls and the erosion of their rights as members of the female sex class.

Djnoun · 21/03/2018 18:20

I could not give one solitary shit about self ID.

TERFragetteCity · 21/03/2018 18:21

I could not give one solitary shit about self ID.

Evidently.

yetanothertranswoman · 21/03/2018 18:23

I was agreeing with you that the “men in dresses” line was rather offensive. But that nothing else in the tweet was

Totally agree. The Labour party does seem to have a problem with women.

And the totally valid point about the Labour party and its mysogyny is overshadowed in that endorsement by JK with the 'men in dresses' line.
