On reflection 'I'm a Marxist so I don't believe in work' is a statement comparable to 'I'm a woman so I don't believe in female biology'

Is it time for a new intellectual movement? Radical materialism?

AngryAttackKittens · 03/02/2018 15:19

Haven't lost your fucking mind-ism? The entire world is not a social construct-ism?

Postmodernism has a lot to answer for. Maybe someone should go back in time and persuade Foucault to become a fisherman or something, make absolutely sure he never picks up a pen.

LangCleg · 03/02/2018 15:21

The room for movement on this debate at the moment is on the conservative side.

This is absolutely true, I think. The Tories have already rolled back from the proposals to remove single sex exceptions from the Equality Act at the same time as amending the GRA.

Plus, the leadership is weak, which gives backbenchers a bigger voice and more room to start making noise if they get a lot of constituent complaints on a particular topic.

I would recommend anyone with a Tory MP to get writing.

I think the crowdfund could force Labour to abandon self-ID for AWS as this is clearly illegal, but the battle is lost to prevent self-ID from being in the manifesto for the next election. Labour would need to lose that to make them think again.

LangCleg · 03/02/2018 15:24

Aren't the anarcho-communist antifa kids great? All of the Maoist show trials and Stalinist purges, none of the class analysis and working for the good of the people.

I think of it as the Trans Year Zero!

All of these ill-read, ahistorical idiots should be sat down with Engels and not be allowed back out of their bedrooms until they can recite it verbatim. How would they like THAT authoritarianism! Wink

AngryAttackKittens · 03/02/2018 15:25

Holiday in Portlandia?

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 03/02/2018 15:57

Feeling a little unnerved now.

Bravo Janice Turner!
nauticant · 03/02/2018 16:13

Alarm bells started ringing for me when there was talk of using the GoFundMe money for a different purpose. Much of what I've seen from Jennifer James since then has made me uncomfortable.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 03/02/2018 16:33

nauticant

I had the same thoughts

whitehandledkitchenknife · 03/02/2018 16:58

Yes. Me too.

ShotsFired · 03/02/2018 17:34

Wow. Wow and Wow again.

Such efficient use of language to provide such clarity of the situation.

Thanks to the pp who suggested emailing the Times to comment - I took out a sub on the back of all the shared links here and I will contact them to let them know that and my appreciation for articles like this.

I might even consider paying full price when the £3 trial ends!

Mytholmroyd · 03/02/2018 18:09

Superb. I feel safer and stronger knowing that intelligent people can see the insanity.

Agreed. A heartfelt thank you Janice from me and my daughters. Shall now subscribe to the Times.

thebewilderness · 03/02/2018 18:16

Cuts to the heart of the matter! Well said.
This is my question to those who are said to represent us:
Can you mandate belief?
Can you codify into law the idea that some people can mind over matter themselves out of material reality and into the opposite sex, and must be treated accordingly?
It is like transubstantiation. A belief that no one actually believes.
Will you allow people to drug and mutilate children based on this belief that no one believes?

Danglingmod · 03/02/2018 18:25

Another one who's taken out a subscription to The Times on the back of their gender critical supportive stance and the fabulous and brave articles by Janice Turner. I shall be emailing to tell them, too.

hackmum · 03/02/2018 18:29

"I would recommend anyone with a Tory MP to get writing."

I wrote to mine a few months ago, and got a very bland reply from one of his minions about supporting the rights of poor oppressed trans people blah blah blah and, moreover, blah. It didn't answer a single one of my points about domestic violence shelters, sports, changing rooms etc. Really crap. It could equally have come from one of the robots on the Labour front bench.

thebewilderness · 03/02/2018 18:36

Perhaps the "activists" at Stonewall do not know that the vast majority of women who transition use the women's rest room and have no intention of going near the men's. Who do they claim to represent?

BeyondWitchbitchterf · 03/02/2018 18:37

Btw OP, you have literally murdered Janice by misgendering her...

Should be "brava" for a female Wink

rowdywoman1 · 03/02/2018 18:41

I have written to my Tory MP asking general questions and specific questions about schools and safeguarding (given that the transgender pressure groups are promoting dangerous safeguarding practices in schools). Although they have not commented they have got me some responses and have promised some more.
If we don't write, they will say 'no one mentions it'. They need to know that we are on the case and expecting credible responses !

Balearica · 03/02/2018 18:46

Yes the quality of Janice Turner's writing is a key reason for my Times subscription too. I hope they read MN!

LangCleg · 03/02/2018 19:10

hackmum - seriously, do write again. I have a Tory MP. The first time I wrote, I got a boilerplate fluff letter back. The second time, I got "we're not proposing to change the Equality Act any more, honest". The Tory standard response is changing. I'll be writing again as soon as there is some new outrage (such as Marie Dean) I can use as an excuse. I've also got my dad and two friends to write.

OlennasWimple · 03/02/2018 19:28

Those JJ tweets are a bit concerning, aren't they?

thebewilderness · 03/02/2018 19:31

Nothing gets a politicians attention more effectively than a dramatic increase in snail mail.

Trueheart1 · 03/02/2018 19:31

Empressofjur : That comment does make JJ sound a little unbalanced. I am also starting to get worried. I thought she was leading the rebellion. It is becoming apparent that her politics are a little more batshit complex than I thought.

JJs and Venice Allen's attitudes to Jeremy Corbyn reminds me of someone in an abusive relationship, always making excuses for why their partner treats them so badly.

KayaG · 03/02/2018 19:32

Hurrah!

SwearyG · 03/02/2018 19:39

I think JJ has a point re newspapers. The Telegraph commissioned a report on the pros and cons of remaining in the EU or leaving it, which comprehensively came down on the side of remain. They campaigned for leave because that’s what the owners wanted to push.

OvaHere · 03/02/2018 19:44

As long as there is discussion and voting for what the crowdfunded money is used for (and I think JJ has been transparent about that thus far) then I'm not overly concerned about her personal politics.

This affects all women of all political affiliations and beliefs, many whom I won't agree with or necessarily even like but if there was ever a time for solidarity of sisterhood this it.

We are even fighting for the rights of those women who denounce us as transphobes and I don't care if they never thank us for it or come to any realisation of what they almost lost. I'll just be happy if we retain a level of safety for them and the right to call themselves women.
