Dear Janice, I thank you.
I very nearly cried, it was so right and really well written.
Am thinking about a times sub. I don't know yet if I can justify the cost.

MOTU · 03/02/2018 13:16

I did post it on Facebook and am duly getting debated! But you know, I've read so much on this subject I think I come back pretty well!!

Collidascope · 03/02/2018 13:34

Dominitthecat, if you get one now, it's £3 for 3 months. If you can't justify the full price cost, you can cancel your subscription before the 3 months is up.

Justabunchofcunts · 03/02/2018 13:37

Maria Miller is up to her neck in it. At least the Tories have admitted that is complex and divisive though. The room for movement on this debate at the moment is on the conservative side. The more articles like this one expose the 'bigot' lies the easier it will be for MPs in any party to raise concerns I strongly think many of them have. Once one party actually debates the proper issues, that puts pressure across the board.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 03/02/2018 13:43

As LangCleg says, they're not leftists. This is a neoliberal individualist ideology which appropriates the concepts and language of leftist class analysis before bursting out and destroying the host like something out of alien.

So far it's facilitated the appropriation of Marxist class analysis, anarchism, anti racism, transsexualism, lesbian and gay culture, feminism, womanhood, intersexhood. I've probably missed a few. Fuck knows where it's going to go next Shock

SchrodingersFrilledLizard · 03/02/2018 13:44

if you’ll finally let us be, then maybe we can talk about tampons in men’s toilets

Oh, once women have given up all their rights to men, then maybe they will allow us to talk about tampons. Screw that.

hipsterfun · 03/02/2018 13:49

Agree with Lang and Tallulah.

And I’m an old-fashioned leftist, too.

BeyondWitchbitchterf · 03/02/2018 13:50

By the way, I noticed the teacher who was in the news (re his GC views getting him in trouble) has commented on Janice's twitter share 👍

OlennasWimple · 03/02/2018 14:00

Brilliant article - we need to bookmark it to share with newbies to the issue who heed a concise, well written guide to what is going on ATM

I've shared it on Facebook, but tumbleweed so far...

Stonewall can fuck off. Do they really think that tampons in the men's loos is the top priority for transmen? Isn't that, er, reductionist? I am not a transman, nor do I know any, but after two minutes thought I would suggest that Stonewall think about lobbying on:

  • healthcare providers understanding that transmen still need smears and other sex based tests (I know, I know)
  • harassment of non-GC individuals
  • gender pay gap
  • primogeniture laws
GoodyHumbygge · 03/02/2018 14:01

Excellent article by Janice Turner!

nauticant · 03/02/2018 14:03

This latest article by Janice Turner is excellent. I would have thought the range of topics covered would have ended in a mess but no, much covered, but with terrific clarity.

Like others I went on twitter to see the response. Venice Allen is an attention seeking liability to the gender critical cause. Jennifer James and her Islington Jesus (that got a snort from me) also makes me very wary. It is amazing to me how these two sustain the cognitive dissonance that somehow Saint Jeremy isn't supporting this erosion of women's rights.

PositivelyPERF · 03/02/2018 14:07

Thank you so much for writing this amazingly elegant article, Janice Turner. In today’s anti female climate, you are an incredibly brave woman. For those women who are afraid to speak out publicly because of abuse and threats of being sacked from our jobs or ‘disowned’ by family members/friends, this is a huge comfort. The more people in your position to let the public know what’s going on, the more chance we have of stopping this nonsense. The TRAs are doing a great job of silencing women and unfortunately their handmaidens are so in awe of them, that they are acting as foot soldiers.

notafish · 03/02/2018 14:08

Myunicornfliessideways Excellent analysis on your 12:40 post.

hipsterfun · 03/02/2018 14:11

From what I’ve seen, Venice Allan does seem a bit of a liability.

PositivelyPERF · 03/02/2018 14:11

MOTU have you been called a bigot yet? When I’ve been called it, I answer that they are the bigots for refusing to listen to the views of the actual born females. You can see their little cigs working overtime. 😁

PositivelyPERF · 03/02/2018 14:12

Cogs not cigs 😬

AngryAttackKittens · 03/02/2018 14:13

Aren't the anarcho-communist antifa kids great? All of the Maoist show trials and Stalinist purges, none of the class analysis and working for the good of the people.

I once saw one say that because he was a Marxist he didn't believe in work and I was like, look, kid, at no point did Marx produce an essay titled "How to guilt trip people who're scared of being called transphobic into paying your rent via e-begging because you're too lazy to get a job".

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 03/02/2018 14:19

LOL Angry

To be fair, they are more like Stalin than Marx

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 03/02/2018 14:19

because he was a Marxist he didn't believe in work Confused

Kind of a capitalist position for a Marxist

BeyondWitchbitchterf · 03/02/2018 14:19
AngryAttackKittens · 03/02/2018 14:27

Nobody who saw the Marxist = don't believe in work comment will ever forget it, it was one of those "behold, a living stereotype" moments.

BelaLugosisShed · 03/02/2018 15:04

I’m glad others are sharing my unease, I was wary of being some kind of ‘traitor’ Blush
I did disagree with Venice on twitter but I don’t know enough about the machinations within Labour to be able to argue her points. Julie Bindel’s not having any of it though !

bambambini · 03/02/2018 15:05

Venice Allan is an idiot who is basking in her 'fame' as much as Lilly Madigan is. And she is doing women no favour

There’s a reason I don’t follow VA on twitter.

nauticant · 03/02/2018 15:09

Another good read in today's Times is the column by Matthew Parris. It's critical of the way Brexit is being managed so might not be to everyone's taste. However, I thoroughly enjoyed reading his contempt of Rees-Mogg's behaviour.

Sorry for the derail.
