Wrong side of history

Here is something I know to be true: those campaigning against trans rights will fail. Your money will be raised and spent and wasted. Your legal challenges will not succeed. Your relentless attempts to do injustice will fail. You are on the wrong side of history. Your children will grow up knowing better than you. You cannot stop progress. Your efforts are in vain.

And every time I'm proven right - every time a court judgment goes against you and every time a law protecting trans men and women is passed and every time equality is further enshrined in the laws of this country I am going to return to this thread for the pure and petty purpose of telling you I TOLD YOU SO.

That's nice, dear.

Uh-huh.

Wrong side of history
SciFiFan2015 · 15/01/2018 16:40

The campaign isn't against trans rights. The campaign is to protect women's rights.

There's a very important difference in there.

I suspect you're right sadly Lyra although I find it pretty disgusting that you will gain satisfaction from saying 'I told you so' when the repercussions will be so awful for women and girls. Having their safety compromised and their rights trampled all over would rightly apall any decent person, maybe have a think about what that says about you?

QuentinSummers · 15/01/2018 16:42

Is that you Owen?

YouCantBeSirius · 15/01/2018 16:43

Lulz

snoofy · 15/01/2018 16:43

Who is campaigning against trans rights?
I thought that people were campaigning against the dissolution of women's rights.

stitchglitched · 15/01/2018 16:45

I find it sad that some women are prepared to throw other women and girls under a bus just to get brownie points from men who could not give a stuff about them. It's really pathetic.

SerciteEland · 15/01/2018 16:45

There's no reason to type a lengthy response to this drivel there's a lovely one here: lilymaynard.wordpress.com/2017/12/16/i-know-whos-going-to-be-on-the-wrong-side-of-history-and-it-isnt-me/

SciFiFan2015 · 15/01/2018 16:45

Ditto what @Hidingtonothing said. Perfection in a post!

ThereIsTooMuchConfusion · 15/01/2018 16:49

I have to admit, when I read the negativity towards trans people on mumsnet I was initially shocked.

I kinda always feel a bit inferior on here as a lot of posters seem very intelligent and so full of knowledge, but when I read all the negativity towards trans men and women it does surprise me a little I guess I thought that views on mumsnet are quite progressive and forward thinking and to be negative towards transgender feels the opposite.

However I will say as always reading posts regarding transgender and feminism has challenges my own kinda blinding acceptance of the issues of women’s rights being compromised. It’s always good to read oposing views from your own for obvious reasons. However I think op is right about being on the wrong side of history.

Gutted Hmm

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/01/2018 16:54

Owen, u ok hun?

PocketCoffeeEspresso · 15/01/2018 16:55

S'funny, because I can't think of any time in history where mutilating healthy bodies and sterilizing children was looked back on with pride.

The trampling on womens' rights, yeah, I'll give you that one, lots of people are pretty proud of themselves about that, both in history and now.

SamanthaBrique · 15/01/2018 16:57

Tumblr's that way dear...

Ereshkigal · 15/01/2018 16:57

Oh Lyra, you're good value, I'll give you that Grin

corlan · 15/01/2018 16:58

To be fair, women have always been on the wrong side of history but, slowly and surely, over the centuries we have made progress.
As others have said, I am not against trans rights but I am against the erosion of my, and more importantly to me, my daughters' rights.
My children will grow up to thank me for standing up for their rights as women.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/01/2018 16:58

Umm, I don't think anyone is campaigning against trans rights (as an.aside what rights do trans folk not already have?)

What people are campaigning against is the erosion of women's rights.

I would be interested in your answers to these questions OP?

Yawn. Yaaaaawn. Yaaaaaaaaaaaawnnnnnnn.

GetDownDog · 15/01/2018 17:00

According to lots of men women are always on the wrong side of history, so nothing's new here.
Hopefully it'll raise the profile so that the mainstream population will have a grasp of what's going on, and prevent women from being thrown under the bus. Again.

stitchglitched · 15/01/2018 17:01

The only 'right' being denied to trans people is the right to force women to validate them and pretend they are literally women. Threats, doxing, emotional manipulation, gaslighting, none of it is working on many women who would be natural allies of gender non-conforming individuals who wanted their own services, representation and safe spaces.

Transgender people aren't being denied any rights in the UK that others have- in fact being allowed to self define their way into a protected characteristic against equality legislation is something no one else would ever be allowed to do. The only good thing is that the constant entitlement at the expense of others is peak transing people in their droves.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 15/01/2018 17:02

Nope.

The class actions are going to come for the likes of you Lyra who supported the child abuse and butchering of children's healthy bodies, and support for their life long dependence on drugs, rendering them sterile with little sexual function.

MadamMinacious · 15/01/2018 17:04

Cool story Bro.

Honestly if the future is a world where we cannot legitimately discuss biological differences and the fact that they are predominantly the reason for female issues and concerns and for the oppression of women (reproductive rights, abortion, FGM, equal pay, maternity laws, maternal mortality, stigmas and taboos of menstruation and numerous other matters) then I don't really give a flying fuck about being on the 'right side of history'. If the future means vulnerable children mutilate themselves rather than understand what is making them unhappy, women's sports become meaningless, female prisoners, mental health patients, rape and sexual abuse survivors are put in danger and not allowed space to recover without being confronted by male bodies, I don't care to be on the 'right side' and if men are the figures that will be representing women in the future on all these issues and more on the understanding that they know what they are talking about because of a nebulous feeling - the 'right side of history' can bore off - I don't want it.

Like I said, cool story bro.

Ereshkigal · 15/01/2018 17:06

Yep. Lyra's Brave New World sounds a bit shit frankly. Perhaps she'll realise that. When it's too late.
