Looks like an interesting watch, that does not just accept the trans children or they will kill themselves rhetoric. I just hope the BBC actually do show it and aren't bullied into not showing it.

Increasingly, parents are encouraged to adopt a 'gender affirmative' approach - fully supporting their children's change of identity. But is this approach right?

In this challenging documentary, BBC Two's award-winning This World strand travels to Canada, where one of the world's leading experts in childhood gender dysphoria (the condition where children are unhappy with their biological sex) lost his job for challenging the new orthodoxy that children know best. Speaking on TV for the first time since his clinic was closed, Dr Kenneth Zucker believes he is a victim of the politicisation of transgender issues. The film presents evidence that most children with gender dysphoria eventually overcome the feelings without transitioning and questions the science behind the idea that a boy could somehow be born with a 'female brain' or vice versa. It also features 'Lou' - who was born female and had a double mastectomy as part of transitioning to a man. She now says it is a decision that 'haunts' her and feels that her gender dysphoria should have been treated as a mental health issue.

Sounds very interesting. I can see it being pulled though once the TAs get wind of it. Given this subject wasn't even allowed to be spoken about with the NSPCC..I doubt they will allow it to be shown on TV.

I hope that gets shown. Such an important aspect of the debate.

Hopefully the drugs used to suppress puberty will be discussed. I have grave concerns over their long term safety.

I see there is now much discomfort about the showing of the program, and there is a very emotive petition for it to be reviewed by an expert prior to showing to make sure it contains nothing "damaging"

As someone pointed out the extreme end of transactivism seems remarkable like Scientology when you look at the techniques employed to quash dissent.

If there is a need for "clarification" or a right to reply, I think the programme should be broadcast as it is, unedited, and followed up with a discussion/debate where the contentious issues can be aired. This programme seems to balance out a lot of recent BBC content where the transing of children has been presented in an entirely positive and unquestioning way. Can you imagine during the Wakefield/MMR controversy Andrew Wakefield having the right to review & seek edits to opposing coverage? I see these issues as being similar in terms of potential societal harms & proper debate and exploration of opposing viewpoints as being entirely justified and needed.

Surely the petition won't have any effect though as it's partly about an expert who's been pressured into silence by the political transagenda. I hope not anyway. It also sounds like they've tried to go for some element of balance by inviting people with opposing views.

Lots of bollocks on the Change.Org petition to have it reviewed before broadcast, some of which seems pretty defamatory to me (about the expert in the prog) so I hope the Beeb might disregard take it with a big pinch of salt.

Ie. Should not be broadcast until watered down to sugar coat the actual dangers of puberty blockers and must not mention real stats that say the huge majority of those with 'GID' who are left alone grow up to be simply gay adults...whereas those shoved onto blockers...100% of them go onto further 'transition'

They are showing their true colours now, this coupled with no platforming anyone who doesn't tow the trans line. I just hope people take notice. It's like T is a great big cuckoo in the LGBT nest, with L being pushed out.

I read an article about this in the pink news . The comments section is epic. "Radical feminists who don't accept trans women as women are misogynistic.....most radical feminists actually do accept trans women as it's an essential part of feminist theory....." total through the looking glass nonsense.

Are there risks to them for broadcasting it? Other than lots of publicity?

When you hear jounos etc talking about working at the beeb and the stifling regulatory/compliance culture and how it harshes their creative mellow, I amgine the lawyers will have already reviewed the hell out of this documentary & framed the narrative extremely carefully. It's just a question of whether they've got the cojones to put an alternative view to the prevailing 'everything is awesome' trans orthodoxy.

To be honest, I'd forgotten all about the legal battle that family had had regarding their disabled daughter and puberty blockers a few years ago until it was mentioned on another thread recently. In light of that, it is absolutely gobsmacking that there is so little debate about the ethics of giving healthy children puberty blockers.

I'm delighted that the harmful approach is finally being discussed, but shocked that ththe BBC with its unashamed pro trans stance would broadcast anything other than uncritical support

Is there a way to show support for the programme to contrarrest the change.org? I'm thankful for alternative views to the trans activists celebratory bit. It is difficult to talk about this, but so far it has been appalling indoctrination everywhere.

If so a new bit has been added (possibly in response to criticism):
