I just thought it would be nice to have a thread on people waiting for smear results

I've just had my first one and currently waiting two weeks , I'm quite anxious as they found cervix ecropian and I've been having bleeding after sex

Anyone interested in joining for a hand hold and to support each other?

Hello, I’m waiting on results from a follow up smear - had mild abnormal cells a year ago, so just seeing how those are getting along - have had a baby in the meantime, so my cervix wasn’t too happy to be prodded.

Poor you :(
The best thing to remember is that when they find things it means they can help stop them progressing.

duffed · 05/03/2019 20:10

Oh they’ve said I should hear within six weeks! I hope it comes sooner

Decormad38 · 05/03/2019 20:12

Can we please call it cervical screening and not smear test! Smear test comes from the time when they had to smear a sample onto slides to view it. It no longer happens that way.

butterflykiss00 · 05/03/2019 20:29

@duffed I hope they come back ok for you , oh poor cervix! I've recently had a baby too so mine wasn't happy either !
Yeah your right at least it would b early. 6 weeks that's a while! I have to wait 2

@Decormad38 oh i didn't realise that , thankyou for that information :)

Had mine today. Said I'd have results within 2 weeks but everything looked ok.

butterflykiss00 · 05/03/2019 20:32

@HunterHearstHelmsley that's good!! I hope your results come back ok ❤️ how are you feeling?

HunterHearstHelmsley · 05/03/2019 20:32

I still have to book a 'smear test' at my doctors so it's still ok to call it that.

Hoosey · 05/03/2019 20:33

I was told I’d have my results within 4 weeks and that ran out today. I’ve always had them pretty quickly before so I’m not too sure what to do. I think it’ll give it a few more days and then call the surgery. I stupidly hadn’t been for about 6 or 7 years.

SnaccidentsHappen · 05/03/2019 20:33

I'm waiting too, had mine on 13/2, nurse said will hear within 6 weeks. I have had abnormal cells before and have had treatment, so it's always at the back of my mind that it could happen again

HunterHearstHelmsley · 05/03/2019 20:33

Fine! I was a little (8 years...) overdue for it 😳 but I don't feel unduly concerned. Will wait and see..

Are you ok?

butterflykiss00 · 05/03/2019 20:35

@HunterHearstHelmsley I had to call it that too

@Hoosey oh no, you must be worried! I'm sure it'll be ok there must just be a backlog somewhere x

Hoosey · 05/03/2019 20:36

Interesting that the waiting times quoted vary so much. Do you mind if I ask where in the country you are- vague area. I’m very remote northern Scotland and they say 4 weeks.

butterflykiss00 · 05/03/2019 20:37

@SnaccidentsHappen fingers crossed all's ok for you , did I get treatment for the cells or did you just have to wait to see what happens ?

OP posts:
Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 05/03/2019 20:38

The nurse mentioned to me there was a backlog with the lab and it was taking 10-12 weeks for them to be returned but said it was quicker now.
She didn't give a timescale though

butterflykiss00 · 05/03/2019 20:38

@HunterHearstHelmsley yea I'm ok thankyou just a little bit worried , I'm sure all will be ok though

@Hoosey I'm in the uk and it's two weeks here :)

OP posts:
duffed · 05/03/2019 20:39

yes - the worry was in the back of my mind as i was meant to have a check 6 months later but couldn't as pregnant... would be nice to not have to think about these things buy hey ho, better that then cancer.

do they just make the waiting times up, or is there a reason they are sodifferent?

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 05/03/2019 20:39

Although theres a new national campaign to promote cervical screening so you would hope they would have resolved any delays in results before launching it

You would hope!!

duffed · 05/03/2019 20:40

i'm north west England with the six weeks-

butterflykiss00 · 05/03/2019 20:40

@Needcoffeecoffeecoffee are you in the uk?

OP posts:
Hoosey · 05/03/2019 20:40

Thanks @needcoffeecoffee that’s good to know. Many moons ago my mum had a big delay with hers and ended up getting a colposcopy appointment through before the results so I think that’s been playing on my mind a bit.

saj90 · 05/03/2019 20:41

Had one at the end of last year. All good thankfully.
But just wanted to say well done for going to one. Can't believe how many people don't.
Fingers crossed everything comes back clear for you OP.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 05/03/2019 20:41

There's only one clinic a month at the moment at my GP. Really poor.

butterflykiss00 · 05/03/2019 20:42

@duffed I was pregnant when I got my reminder too, even got the pink letter to sign if I didn't want them.

Yea it is , I wondered that too I thought two weeks was the guideline everywhere !
