I just thought it would be nice to have a thread on people waiting for smear results

I've just had my first one and currently waiting two weeks , I'm quite anxious as they found cervix ecropian and I've been having bleeding after sex

Anyone interested in joining for a hand hold and to support each other?

@duffed I'm north east England for the two weeks

I had my last two reminders whilst pregnant but I was terrible and kept putting it off. I finally gave my head a wobble and got it over and done with. They were still using a metal speculum though- which made it an interesting experience. I’ve always had a plastic one before now.

butterflykiss00 · 05/03/2019 20:45

@saj90 thankyou and I'm pleased your came back ok

Nurse said she'll ring in a week with the swab results , she done swabs just to cover all bases with the bleeding/spotting

butterflykiss00 · 05/03/2019 20:45

@HunterHearstHelmsley really! They're weekly at mine, I didn't realise how different the nhs is in the uk , I would assume it was all the same

OP posts:
HunterHearstHelmsley · 05/03/2019 20:47

@butterflykiss00 yep! They're only as often as monthly as one nurse voluntarily swapped from baby clinic to smears!

I'm going to give feedback. It's a big thing to build up to for a lot of women. A massive delay doesn't help.

butterflykiss00 · 05/03/2019 20:47

@Hoosey a metal one lol mine was plastic.

Sorry for all the tagging. just don't want people getting confused about who I'm talking to at the time and I don't want to miss answering :)

@butterflykiss00 thank you, I'm sure all will be fine, yes I had treatment. It was over 10 years ago and been all clear since.

butterflykiss00 · 05/03/2019 20:49

@HunterHearstHelmsley that's a good idea with the feedback, and once a month isn't the best some people might not be able to book of work or whatever on that day , it's not right at all!

OP posts:
butterflykiss00 · 05/03/2019 20:50

@SnaccidentsHappen that's hopeful then

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 05/03/2019 20:52

Yes I'm UK. - Midlands
I read an interesting article which I will try to find that explained the initial delays last year were because of the change of testing. They now check for hpv and if not don't check further.
It also said that even if there is a delay in results that cancer takes a long time to develop so not to worry

butterflykiss00 · 05/03/2019 20:54

That's good news then, I had the cervical cancer jabs when I was younger so that helps with the wait.

I'm sure that would help with the workload I can imagine they have

Thanks for that Needcoffeecoffeecoffee

I waited 13 weeks for results last year and there was borderline changes too.

butterflykiss00 · 06/03/2019 03:42

That's a joke! Are you ok now

OP posts:
EllieMookins · 06/03/2019 11:28

Not really the right thread for me but I had mine in Jan and got the results in 5 weeks (with colposcopy appointment letter). I'm SE Scotland.

Abnormal cells needing further investigation Sad spoke to GP who scared me silly but looking online I'm actually reassured at others experiences. Last smear was clear but the one before that was abnormal with no treatment needed. Makes me scared they missed something on my last one.

Big hugs to everyone waiting x

AlexGeorge · 06/03/2019 12:42

I'm going to go private in June for a smear test as had borderline changes last year and was told no hpv so recall will be normal 3 years but don't want to wait that long. Hoping the cells have corrected themselves after a year. Will get the results within a week at the private hospital I'm going to use rather than the 13 weeks I waited for nhs results in SE England.

butterflykiss00 · 06/03/2019 13:38

@EllieMookins I'm sorry to hear that and hope you get the best treatment you need and a good outcome.

Your welcome on here wether you've had the results or not Smile

It doesn't sound like they missed something!
ThanksThanks

butterflykiss00 · 06/03/2019 13:49

@AlexGeorge it's horrible that you have to do that! They should take more care when there's any changes especially when you are having to take things in your own Hands !
I wish you luck ❤️

Just wanted to add a little update in case it helps anyone else...

I went yesterday and had the loop treatment to remove the abnormal cells. The doctor said they didn't detect cancer cells in the smear and he's taken 1cm of my cervix away and they'll biopsy that and send the results in 3 weeks, then if results clear it'll be a smear in 6 months to check they've all gone, if not I'll be back in for another cm off but I'm hopeful to get clear margins. The treatement itself was fine, I was gone 18 minutes (seemed longer!). So if anyone does get an abnormal result please don't panic and just go to the appointment, it doesn't hurt. And happy international women's day Flowers

butterflykiss00 · 08/03/2019 10:24

That's great and thankyou for sharing that made me feel so much better knowing

Gl with your results xx

Can I join please?
I've just booked an early smear...I think I'm due in August but recently I've been bleeding after sex. I have a few other symptoms that I didn't think much of until I looked up bleeding after sex (I know! Don't ever look on google! 😩)
Just a little worried I guess! X
