I just thought it would be nice to have a thread on people waiting for smear results

I've just had my first one and currently waiting two weeks , I'm quite anxious as they found cervix ecropian and I've been having bleeding after sex

Anyone interested in joining for a hand hold and to support each other?

They say 2 weeks also here (NW), but usually it's three! Not sure why they don't just tell us three to be honest and manage expectations Grin

Trumponerous · 25/03/2019 21:41

I had test early Jan after putting it off too long. It is a huge hassle for me to have this test due to a disability. I did get a letter reasonably quickly, within 3 weeks, but irritatingly it says they couldn't see the cells clearly (?) and I need to have it again but not for 3 months to allow cells to regenerate. So more waiting ho hum (grrrr actually). Just warning you ladies of this possibility.

butterflykiss00 · 25/03/2019 22:19

@they told us two weeks also, wish they told me about the lab delays they are suffering with

@Trumponerous I read about that on my info letter that they give you after taking the sample, that would piss me off a lot too, I hope it goes well for you Thanks

Had mine this morning and she’s told me 2-3 weeks wait

Had abbmormal cells cin 3 removed feb 2015, 6 months later got the all clear and now 3 1/2 years later I’ve just had my next smear (6months late) and I’ve had a baby since the treatment. She said it looks healthy, but she knew I was worried so hopefully wasn’t said just to stop me worrying Confused

butterflykiss00 · 26/03/2019 16:05

@B3ck89 that's good if she said that, and I was told 2 weeks it's been 3 tomorrow but I'm aware of the delays,
I hope you get good results xx

Hello.

I didn't know whether I should post tomorrow as I don't actually have my smear test till then but I'm feeling slightly anxious about it this evening!

I went for my first smear test when I was 25 and the results came back abnormal with CIN 2. I didn't have any treatment and was asked to make an appointment at my GP in 6 months time for another smear test. Thankfully this came back clear.

I had another smear a year later at the GPs request, that came back clear. I was asked to come back after a year again because of my one abnormal result.

I then fell pregnant with my DD before I could go back.

I went back when DD was just under a year and that result came back clear.I was still asked to go back after a year.

On the next occasion my results came back inconclusive, the nurse hadn't taken a sample with enough cells to be tested. I was asked to rebook a test but I never did.

That was around 2 years ago and I'm all booked in for tomorrow. I'm just so nervous! Since my last test I've split from my husband and have had a couple of new sexual partners and with all this HPV testing now I'm worried I could be more at risk.

I just wanted a handhold really and some reassurance.

butterflykiss00 · 26/03/2019 21:08

@LizaCarlisle hi Liza , I'm sure everything will be ok and we are all here if it isn't, it's all easily treatable at the early stages so try not to worry, I hope your results come back ok and the smear itself goes ok too

And congratulations on your DD ❤️

Thank you @butterflykiss00 , I know I'm probably worrying unnecessarily and having a smear is one of the most responsible things I can do, especially being a mother! It's just waiting for the results is nerve wracking. And google doesn't help either!

Just woken up at my boyfriends house. My DD is with her Nanna until after my appointment and I'm feeling so nervous.

butterflykiss00 · 27/03/2019 07:20

@LizaCarlisle not long now and then just the waiting for results, everything will be fine ❤️
No google doesn't help been doing the same myself 😂 x

Yeah, with how bad my anxiety is I've googled all about cervical cancer and have almost convinced myself I've got all the symptoms. Which makes me feel dreadful as people are actually suffering from this terrible disease.

hannah1992 · 27/03/2019 12:37

Liza it's so easy for the mind to wonder isn't it. I had mine last Friday and I go from oh I'm sure everything is fine to oh but I had that pelvic ache last week for no apparent reason.

I think the anxiety applies to all tests though. Whether routine or not. My MIL has had to mammograms now and each time has been a nervous wreck until the results came through even though she had no reason to believe anything was wrong.

I try to think like until I know otherwise everything's fine. If not then it will be treated because the very very high chances are it will just be abnormal cells they can do away with

CookieSwirlC · 27/03/2019 13:05

I’m still waiting for my results. Had it done nearly 4 weeks ago now. Thought it only took 10 days to get back (or it did 4 years ago when I last had one) so was surprised when the doctors receptionist said it’s 4 weeks at least now when I phoned to check.

LizaCarlisle · 27/03/2019 16:00

@hannah1992 yes, I totally agree. I think any screening tests for cancer raise a lot of anxiety. My dad sends off his stool sample every time he gets the kit through the post and he is so nervous until he receives the results telling him nothing is wrong! My mum not so much, she goes for her mammograms and her cervical screening but she is very much of the mindset 'what will be, will be.'

With regards to how long results take to come through, the nurse this morning said it can take up to 6 weeks. My sister when in February and got her results within 4 weeks. So now it's time to play the waiting game!

My actual appointment this morning m went so well, though. And for the first time ever, I didn't encounter any discomfort, in fact the nurse was so gentle and so quick I didn't realise she had done it! So I'm feeling positive.

butterflykiss00 · 28/03/2019 16:01

Still no smear results but nurse has done a ca125 blood test and sent me got a scan just waiting on letter

butterflykiss00 · 29/03/2019 07:12

@Oct18mummy it's ridiculous

Hi, I had my first smear today and was told I had cervical etropian, after googling I am so scared. I have had no symptoms and do not take contraceptive pill and I am not pregnant. Only thing nurse said was they may want to retest as hard to get cells and results 4-6 weeks. I feel so scared

butterflykiss00 · 01/04/2019 14:04

@howwilliknoww try not to worry but I know what you mean, I keep reading hongs about cervical erosion being mistaken for cancer and the other way around , but at least you've ha a smear and the results will come when they are ready. Still waiting on mine 😡

OP posts:
howwilliknoww · 03/04/2019 17:13

@butterflykiss00 do you have any results yet? X

butterflykiss00 · 03/04/2019 18:58

@howwilliknoww nope 😐 but I've got the blood test and ultrasound tomorrow , can't wait for some reason, have u had any results ? X

OP posts:
howwilliknoww · 04/04/2019 07:42

@butterflykiss00 no results yet for me but it has only been a couple of days. I'm so anxious though as nurse said I had cervical ectopian (never heard of it until I got home and googled) but I have not had any symptoms and don't take the pill, which made me even more anxious.
Don't think I could stand waiting as long as you have been waiting. Nurse said if I haven't heard in 4 weeks to get in touch.
What are your scan and blood tests for? X

butterflykiss00 · 04/04/2019 12:30

To check out inside aswell and the blood test is a ca125 test a tumour marker , ultrasound today showed an area that could possibly be a polyp so I've been referred to gynaecology to take a look

I'm sick of waiting now for smear results but feeling a bit more hopeful about it all , hoping it is a polyp

emily199027 · 05/04/2019 10:25

Hey everyone..I've not posted for a while so hope everyone's okay!
Got my smear on Monday that I've booked in early for as I've been have bleeding after sex. Period was due 10 days ago and still no sign of it... 🙄😩 hoping it doesn't show up over the weekend or I'll have to cancel the test 😕

hannah1992 · 05/04/2019 12:32

How old are you butterfly? Polyp sounds the most likely cause. Waiting around for results isn't nice but it's horrendous if your having symptoms and anxious at the same time.

LizaCarlisle · 05/04/2019 13:00

There is no chance you are pregnant @emily199027 ? The nurse may make you do a test before your smear just to rule that out as having one when pregnant may harm the baby... hope all goes well if not!

Still waiting here for results, only had my test a week and a half ago so I've probably got a while left to wait! I have no symptoms but have terrible anxiety about it all after having treatment for CIN 2 back in 2010.

I have had 2 normal clear smears since then but haven't been since 2016 and in that time I've split from my husband and had 2 different sexual partners since. I worry about the HPV virus having slept with new people.

I'm probably worrying about nothing but it's nice having this forum to share your fears on!
