I just thought it would be nice to have a thread on people waiting for smear results

I've just had my first one and currently waiting two weeks , I'm quite anxious as they found cervix ecropian and I've been having bleeding after sex

Anyone interested in joining for a hand hold and to support each other?

8 weeks wait for me so far....

@xJune88 glad yours were all clear

Hidingtonothing · 09/10/2019 15:14

That's great xJune88 Smile Isn't it odd how much time scales seem to differ, and that expected times for results don't seem to tally at all with how long we're actually waiting, seems very disjointed and disorganised Hmm

Malibucyprus · 09/10/2019 15:46

I was told 2 weeks wait, I would’ve been surprised if they were back that quickly, but 8 weeks plus is ridiculous.

Butterflykiss00 · 10/10/2019 08:37

@xJune88 great news !!

@Hidingtonothing I had my biopsy a couple of days ago so now waiting for the results, also had the cryotherapy and a hysteroscopy.
I can't believe your still waiting!

@Malibucyprus and you! How daunting

Hi, I have made my own post but then I saw this thread so thought I might get a few more replies on here....

I'm not really sure why I'm posting. I think just for reassurance. A year ago I had a routine smear where I found out I had HPV but no abnormal cells. Fast forward to this year for another smear and I still have HPV but with abnormal cells now. I'm being referred to hospital for a colopscopy and I'm shit scared. Can anyone give me any advice or if you was in the same situation.
Thankyou

Butterflykiss00 · 11/10/2019 07:29

@DanceDanceDance80 try not to worry, the colposcopy might be a little uncomfortable but I'm sure you can ask for general or local anaesthetic, many people just need the procedure and another one to get rid of them totally . When is your appointment xxx

DanceDanceDance80 · 11/10/2019 11:04

Thankyou for your reply. I haven't got my appt date yet just a letter giving the results of the smear and the referral notice.

DanceDanceDance80 · 11/10/2019 12:22

Just re read the letter again and it says borderline changes to the cells.

I'm getting very anxious now as I still haven't received a letter for my appt and I can't get through to my doctors.

Hidingtonothing · 11/10/2019 13:40

I had exactly this about 15 years ago Dance, I had colposcopy and loop diathermy to remove the cells. I remember being terrified both about the procedure itself and my long term health.

I'm happy to say the procedure was nothing like I expected, very quick and no more than mildly uncomfortable, I remember having mild period type pain for a few hours afterwards and a bit of spotting but that was all.

I had 6 monthly smears for (I think) 3 years afterwards, then 12 monthly for another 3, then back to 3 yearly as normal. In 15 years I've had one other 'slight cell changes' smear result which didn't require treatment and had cleared by my next smear.

I hope some of that is reassuring, try not to panic about waiting for your appointment, the whole point of smears is to catch these things early and they have Flowers

Hidingtonothing · 12/10/2019 10:23

Feel a bit bad posting this now but my results came this morning and they're clear Smile

Butterflykiss00 · 12/10/2019 20:32

@Hidingtonothing congratulations! I bet your relieved !

@DanceDanceDance80 try ringing them again xxx

Went for a smear 1st week in June, the dr did an internal beforehand, finally got my results back 2 months later, saying the test was not adequate.

I called the surgery to be told i needed another appointment, i asked why it was needed, evidently it is not normal practice to be given an exam before the smear is taken, the locum dr i saw is no longer at the practice and it could have possibly affected my sample. Went back for another 3 weeks ago and still waiting again, nearly 5 months from attending!! Am i just unlucky?

Butterflykiss00 · 13/10/2019 23:28

@katieeacton that's awful, I hope your ok. It's not normal this scenario and I hope you finally get some results soon. Have u asked why the doctor is no longer practising? If it's anything sinister I think you deserve to know! Xx

Still received no biopsy results and I move abroad next week Blush

catnidge · 16/10/2019 07:11

Blimey matilda, I can only hope no news is good news but you'd like to have it confirmed.
All the best with the move.

I had my smear on a Monday and the severely abnormal results were back in 5 days. Had my biposy on a Thursday and received the call to come in the following Tuesday. So whilst we can't really generalise, in my case bad news came back fast.

Good luck to everyone still waiting.
butterfly how are you doing?

CheeseChipsMayo · 16/10/2019 07:25

Had my result back after a 4week wait..positive onHPV16 local hosp fully booked with ladies who've had abnormal cells so advised to book with nearest gynecologist for a colposcopy..now its a 5week wait.Had abnormal cells&cervical polopectomy in early20's so not massively concerned-just inherently grateful we have access to healthcare to facilitate early diagnosis/treatment.Best wishes to you all as you wait.

Butterflykiss00 · 17/10/2019 00:50

@matildawormwoood oh no! You'll have to call them

@catnidge just waiting on biopsy results now, had the cryosurgery and hysteoscopy thing done. No news yet but it hasn't been long since having it, how are you ?

OP posts:
Butterflykiss00 · 17/10/2019 00:52

@CheeseChipsMayo I hope the time flies for you, yes it's good that you can be seen quickly, it is quick when there's something found on a smear but anything else seems to take a while x

catnidge · 17/10/2019 16:04

butterfly I'm OK had some post op cpmplications and had to go back into surgery. At home, feeling tired but glad op is over.

Butterflykiss00 · 17/10/2019 22:30

Aw that's no good! Hope you feel better soon xxx

Does anybody know who I would call about waiting for colposcopy results, the hospital or my GP?

catnidge · 18/10/2019 15:13

I would try both as you do need your results before you travel. Try colposcopy first.

matildawormwoood · 18/10/2019 16:49

@catnidge Thank you! I rang the clinic, they said it's been posted out but I don't have it yet, however they told me that I've been discharged to my GP for my next smear

Malibucyprus · 21/10/2019 15:32

Finally got my results today, just over a 2 month wait, thankfully they’re normal.

Flowers for anyone still anxiously waiting for results.
