Welcome Laura

Thrifty I bought 100g from ebay for £4 delivered and its the actual plant grounded and not processed at all. I think I might make chocolate brownies tonight

shortandsweet2 · 15/07/2010 18:36

Oh dear just made cookies and they had to be dumped, tasted soooooo foul.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 15/07/2010 19:53

Hi sorry been a bit quiet this week.
I think I've lost a couple of pounds which is fab after last week's gain - probably due to changing diet, as I said last week.

I've got agave syrup and it's very sweet, but tbh I don't really use it - bought it to make the odd bit of baking; I've always found when I try to make cakes/cookies with an 'alternative' method no one likes them and I feel obliged to scoff the lot, having sweated over them!

I prefer to make (or for DD to make) a batch of big fat cupcakes occasionally and take huuuge enjoyment from a real treat.

My breakfast is often muesli. I use a couple of tblsps of jumbo oats, a tbsp of spelt flakes and a scattering of raisins/sultanas/dried bananas if I have them.
Then I have a few brazil nuts or walnuts, as I absolutely cannot have a meal with no protein content.

Sometimes I'll have a mushroom omelette or scrambled eggs with spelt soda bread, which I find really comforting and sustaining.

I'm afraid porridge doesn't do it for me - far too light and my blood sugar drops within the hour.

Hi Laura! Know the feeling about the clothes - having half a stone to go, I've only just allowed myself to splash out on new stuff to any degree and it's such a relief!
I would say don't do what I did, though, and 'punish' yourself for the weight gain by not buying anything new except when you absolutely have to.

thrifty · 15/07/2010 20:53

sorry to hear about your cookies shortandsweet, its so annoying when you make something and you start salivating at the thought of it, then it turns out to be awful, and you just think, what a waste of good (and expensive) ingredients. bit like my bread!

well done wwwy :-)

I'm going to have an ice-cream on saturday, i've told myself i can have it (i just can't wait another 5 weeks til we're on holiday!). we've got some teeny tiny cornetto things from lidl, the boys have been eating them. they're only 77 calories each, but loaded with everything bad.

its been nice this week to re-discover clothes out of the boxes in my wardrobe. I've told myself not to buy any new clothes now til we go on holiday too. but thats more financial really.

thrifty · 15/07/2010 21:13

made this for tea, was fab (quite spicy though!)

WhatsWrongWithYou · 15/07/2010 22:05

Ooh that looks delish! Do you make that separately for yourself Thrifty?
Hats off if you do - and even more brownie points if your DCs happily eat it!

We're off on holiday in 10 days' time, and I know I won't be at my target weight but I reckon I can live with a few pounds over, much easier than the couple of stone I had a few years ago.

thrifty · 16/07/2010 07:22

i made it for me and dp :-) bit too spicy for ds. I have ds a beansprout to try, but if said if didn't like it, which is a shame cos he's quite good with veg. You could easily omit the chilli though, i'm sure it'd still taste good. I used a whole packet of noodles and beansprouts, though, so there is loads left. We'll be eating it for lunch today and tomorrow too.
Where are you off to on holiday wwwy? You may fine you'll continue to lose on holiday, especially if your more active.

shortandsweet2 · 16/07/2010 07:46

Thrifty that looks so yummy might give it a go over the weekend. My DD would eat that minus the chilli. My DH eats anything and he couldn't even stomach the cookies last night!

I had organic salmon last night and OMG the flavour was amazing. It reminded me of when my bros went to the river and caught them. Don't think I can go back to farmed fish now

Will be at a BBQ tonight but my munm knows I am not eating wheat so she is just making a load of salad with steak.

BudaisintheZONE · 16/07/2010 08:05

Hello. Spotted this thread in Active Convos and thought I'd pop in to see how you are doing. You seem to be doing well by the sounds of it.

The way of eating is still pretty much how I am eating although am not doing spelt bread as even with that I craved more and gained and was bloated. Am sticking to my one slice of pumpernickel or rye bread a day.

WWWY - I have finally found someone who doesn't find porridge "keeps them going till lunch"!!! I thought I was the only one. I do still have it sometimes but have some nuts too and plan a proper snack later as I know i will need it. The other breakfast I often have is a granola made by The Good Carb Company - link here. I just buy the original one as the others have more sugar. It's available in Tesco and Sainsburys. I have it with blueberries and extra flaked almonds or something similar.

I am on the Nothing Tastes Slimmer thread and today is our weigh in day and in total I have now lost 21 lbs. It has taken nearly 4 months as there have been a few holidays etc in that time and weekends were I relaxed and gained a little. But I always lose it again.

Heading to UK tomorrow for over 3 weeks (I live in Budapest) so there will be indulgences but generally I will keep eating this way. I feel so good without the crap that I find it fairly easy to stick to.

Have downloaded Couchto5K to my iPhone and am planning on doing that while away.

Now that this is back on my threads I am on I will keep popping back!

WhatsWrongWithYou · 16/07/2010 09:03

Might try that granola - I assume it's wheat free? Tbh, I usually find commercial cereals, eve mueslis, aren't as sustaining as the mix I make myself, but it is handy to have something you can just throw into a bowl.

I'm going to Kenya, Thrifty, and I think there's aqua aerobics at the resort, so I'm hoping to at least keep reasonable fitness up even if I do indulge at the buffet!

BudaisintheZONE · 16/07/2010 09:12

If you add extra nuts and seeds and have it with yoghurt it is sustaining. I think it is wheat free! Have none left so can't check packet but am almost sure!

Kenya sounds fab. Jealous!

thrifty · 16/07/2010 13:47

lol at your dh not even eating your cookies shortandsweet :-) enjoy your bbq later...

Buda - hello again, how was Ireland?

WWWY - oo kenya, sounds fab. I'm sure there'll be plenty of fruit and veg on the buffet too, as well as the treats, free booze etc. are you going on safari too?

i find with the porridge that i have 2 breakfasts, one around 7.30 (a struggle to eat at that time but i find it doesn't require toomuch chewing!) and one at 10ish, then lunch later. I have limited resources on the van for breakfast (though milk and coffee are plentiful!). at the weekends i tend to have whatever i fancy (from the allowed foods!) I've never really liked yoghurt (apart from the really creamy ones). homemade musli sounds good though, as i never seem to find one that doesn't have something in it i want to pick out!

I ma finding that i spend alot of time eating at the moment, but it seems to be working so i'm sticking with the 5+ meals/snacks a day, it has resolved the portion size issue of a couple of weeks ago.

BudaisintheZONE · 16/07/2010 13:54

Hi thrifty - Ireland was good. Had a nice time. Gained two and a half pounds though! Gone now.

I agree that 5 or so meals/snacks is good. It works for me too. One of my faves is a kiwi fruit eaten like a boiled egg and then an Activia natural yoghurt. I would have that as a second breakfast. I also find that eating like that means I don't get too hungry at meal times and can control myself and not shove down vast quantities.

thrifty · 17/07/2010 11:49

morning ladies :-)

have done my saturday morning weigh in and have shed another 1 1/2lbs since last sat :-)so am quite pleased with myself.

If i can keep losing 1 1/2lbs a week, i could be down to 10stone by the time we go away.

like you wwwy, i was hoping to be another 1/2stone lighter. but it will come

shortandsweet2 · 19/07/2010 07:54

Hi thrifty - well done on your loss thats great. I still feel like I am on a peroid even tho there is nothing there. Just shows you how much the pill messes your body up. Not really going to go by my weight at the moment as been really good and still shows I put on.

Might try running again tonight

thrifty · 20/07/2010 07:43

i hope it sorts itself out for you soon, shortandsweet. is there any chance you might be pregnant? If not try doing some crunches, they bought my period on a week early!

shortandsweet2 · 20/07/2010 08:22

I have taken a test just in case and no I am not pregnant (thank god cuz one is enough )

I think my body will just take a few weeks to sort itself out. Hopefully

thrifty · 24/07/2010 09:04

hi ladies,

how are you all getting on?

i've had a right funny (peculiar not haha) week. no loss this week or gain though, even though i've been uber good and not had any sugar, or even honey since monday.

i had a very strange experience on sunday, we went into macdonalds and i had some porridge, it needed something (as did my coffee), but i didnt have any honey on me, so i mistakenly thought that the pancake syrup would be better for me than the sugar. how wrong was i? i must have had about 2 teaspoons of it, 1 in my coffee and 1 in my porridge. an hour later i was floored, blurred vision, spaced out, feeling sick and feeling extremely unwell, i ate a nakd bar, which helped a little, then i just started feeling very cold, shaky, and starving hungry. i just had to keep eating, but everything i ate made me feel sick.
so its taken about 4 days to get over the feeling sick and tired thing and get my blood sugar stableish. i am back to the doctor on thursday for results of blood tests and hopefully get some answers!

shortandsweet2 · 24/07/2010 19:07

OMG thrifty that sounds terrible. Hope your blood tests come back normal.

Well after putting on 5lbs to say I was pissed off is an understatement. So I have been trying the duken diet since Tues and have lat nearly the 5lbs I put on.

I will still keep up to date with you but think I will resort back to this diet when I want to main.

Hope you feel back to normal soon xxx

thrifty · 26/07/2010 07:39

thanks shortandsweet. Whats the dunkun diet involve? Tbh right at the mo am more interested in feeling right again than losing weight. That said. I did have a better day yesterday when i ate a huge breakfast. We cycled 20miles yesterday, and although i was feeling quite ready for my lunch, i never got to the point when i thought i might pass out!
Sorry to hear the diet is not working out for you, though can understand you being pee'd off at a 5lb weight gain. Let me know how it goes on the new diet :-) i might be joining you when i get my body back on track.
I'm hoping they find something with the bloods (something treatable anyway, lol!) i'd just like to feel normal again! I will keep you updated when i find out :-) x

shortandsweet2 · 26/07/2010 07:51

The dukan diet has an attack phase which last between 2 and 10 days depending on how much you want to lose. In this phase you can eat as much protein, low fat dairy (below 2% fat) and 1.5 tablespoons of oatbran per day.

You then have the cruise phase which means you add 28 veg to the above but you have to do one day pure protein and one day protein and veg. You do this until you hit your traget. Most people lose about 1 stone per month.

I have lost 5lbs in 5days.

I hope you do feel better soon and let me know if your bloods come back normal. xx

shortandsweet2 · 29/07/2010 06:41

Hi Thrifty are you feeling any better?

thrifty · 02/08/2010 17:56

Hi Shortandsweet :-)

well i do feel much better, have loads of energy atm (am back on my coffee with honey :-)) was a bit disheartened after the doc visit last week, all the tests came back clear so she kinda looked at me like when i mentioned the reaction to the syrup and how crap i felt for the week or so after, like i was making it all up! she offered me a fasting glucose test, which can only be done between 8.30 and 10am monday to friday, and tbh i cant afford to take a day off to have it atm, so as i feel fine just now, i'm gonna leave it til the autumn.

anyway, the diet is still going ok, and i lost another 1 1/2lb last week, so I'm nearly at 10stone. i feel thinner, and I'm offically a size 12 (in tesco!). I'm going to start incorperating some real bread when we go on holiday, and some potatoes and some ice cream! we're camping so it will be hard to keep it up totally. we should be busy though, lots of walking and surfing (hopefully), to burn off the extra carbs.

how are you getting on with your dunkan diet, is it working out for you?

shortandsweet2 · 07/08/2010 07:08

Hi thrifty, at least there is nothing wrong.

Well done on the loss thats fab. I am a bit crap at the moment. Head is not in the right place for the diet and have the builders in at the moment.

Hope you have a fab time camping :)

ppeatfruit · 09/08/2010 10:47

Hello everyone I've read MOST Blush of this thread and it makes so much sense. I haven't eaten wheat for yrs. I use KAMUT flour to make my bread and it's better than spelt.
