honey article here

thrifty · 16/06/2010 21:21

yes to yeast too (at least i think so!) :-) i made the roman honey bread off the back of the flour bag (doves organic spelt flour). i also made the other recipe which was more of a faff but made a loaf of rather solid bread. i didn't each much of it, cos it went mouldy rather quickly!

shortandsweet2 · 17/06/2010 06:08

Thanks thrifty for all that info. Oops I have been buying l/f natural greek yoghurt, will buy full fat from now

Haven't received the ebook yet but as soon as I do I will email it to you.

BudaisintheZONE · 17/06/2010 07:02

I think the key is food that has not been messed about with. Still in it's natural state without lots of added chemicals. I have been having dairy - milk on cereal and in tea and one Activia natural yoghurt a day.

shortandsweet - well done for finding the book on ebay! Would love a cop if you don't mind. email is budamn at gmail dot com.

thrifty · 17/06/2010 08:06

morning ladies.
Yy. I agree buda. I'm sure low fat is ok as long as its not had something added to it.
From what i understand the secret to it is to try to keep your blood sugar levels in the middle, so that your metabolism speeds up and burns off the fat. This is regulated by your liver, which is much more efficient if its not having to filter out anything artificial.
I was disappointed when i came back from a week in disneyland paris, having tried really hard to only eat the good stuff, and all that walking, my god we walked miles! Only to find i'd not lost any weight. I think the problem was i wasn't eating enough at all. So am making a conscious effort this week to eat more. I shall see if it makes a difference. I had a teaspoon of honey last night before bed to try to help keep my levels up. I don't know whether it helped or not, but i slept well.

No idea about the sprouted grain bread Riven. It sounds nice though.

I think it is naturally low gi because you don't have any of the crappy carbs that send blood sugar sky high but much healthier than Atkins. In fact more like Atkins is supposed to be at the end when you have re-introduced healthy carbs. I can't stick to Atkins either.

Don't remember any mention of tea or coffee. Would imagine would be ok in limited quantities. I have 2 or 3 cups of tea in the morning and then stick to green tea through the day. Also like lemon and ginger and mint teas. Have about 2 coffees a week only.

Bummer about the no loss in Disney thrifty but then again you did really well not to gain. Most people gain there I would say!

HousewifeOfOrangeCounty · 17/06/2010 09:28

I'd love to be on the email list surreyFamily99 at googlemail.com

Well I fell at the first hurdle as we overslept this morning, so it was my usual Jordans granola, which I'm fairly sure it packed full of sugar. I will start afresh now.

Does anyone know if you can buy any spelt bread or similar from the supermarkets? I don't have a bread machine (althought I'd love one) and am not housewife enough to attempt to make it myself.

I was wondering about the tea and coffee too, I usually have a spoonful of sugar so that's going to have to stop. I think Buda is right that fruit teas could be the way forward, mint in this weather would be lovely.

I've got about two stone to loose, I recently tried on a pair of trousers and had to come to terms with the move up from a size 16 to an 18.

Welcome Riven & housewife.

Riven I have bought an ebook off ebay and when I receive it will email to who ever would like a copy.

Just add your email address here

I don't drink loads of tea maybe 2-3 a day and coffee once or twice a week, I think its ok as long as no suger is added.

msboogie · 17/06/2010 10:21

oooh..this sound interesting... have been doing Atkins until a week ago when I went to Italy and threw myself off the no carbs wagon in a spectacular fashion. Was intending to go back to the Atkins on Monday but if there is a better way...

msboogie · 17/06/2010 10:28

can I add myself to the ebook list? its caroline xox @ googlemail.com

thanks in advance

have watched the video now and I have to say every word of it makes complete sense. I agree that the Atkins rlue about not eating fruit sounds mad and that wheat is a terrible thing!

So is this low carb? How does it differ form Atkins. I felt really good on Atkins but just could keep it going!

[email protected]

I am so excited - have three stone to lose and feel vile. Just need a really good burst of enthusiasm to get going. Please keep posting your success stories!

BudaisintheZONE · 17/06/2010 11:25

Hi menopause - it's not low carb but you replace all the rubbishy, crap carbs with GOOD carbs. It's a really healthy way of eating is all. It's whole grains but not wheat. No pasta or white rice. No bread made from wheat etc.

menopausemad · 17/06/2010 12:18

Bit like a low GI?

and more importantly what about booze - surely wine is made from grapes, so is actually good for you .

shortandsweet2 · 17/06/2010 17:18

Grrr still haven't received the ebook!! really blooming annoying as dying to see it

thrifty · 17/06/2010 17:58

housewife - i have been drinking wine on the notion that its a natural product, its probably not allowed, but I'm still losing 2lbs a week despite getting a bit pissed last saturday. I've also been eating white rice, but not potatoes.

my friend said i was looking trim today, it made me feel good inside despite knowing i've got a long way to go.

riven - for example, yesterday i had.
porridge

wilted spinach and fried egg with spelt melba toast

nakd choc orange bar

homemade spicy bean burger and enormous salad
rice pudding
1 square green and blacks esspresso dark choc.

today wasn't such a good day cos i had lunch on the run which consisted of a banana and a lrge strwbery nakd bar, had haf a punnet of strwberries while a i was waiting for ds to dfinish his class. tonight were having this with rice noodle and veg stir fry.

thrifty · 17/06/2010 18:05

that should read 'I've been drinking wine on occaision...'

i am not a piss head

on the tea/coffee thing i think its fine without sugar - i used to have 2 sugars in tea and find now that i can do without, but when i cant i bought some fructose to put in it which is low gi. I put honey in my coffee, if i need it, but mostly i find coffee easier to drink without. as i run a mobile coffee shop so i drink quite a lot of coffee!
I suppose it all depends on how much you want to lose and how fast you want to lose it. the changes i've made have made a slow and steady weight loss for me (i realise now how much crap i used to eat!)and i don't feel like i'm missing out on foods that i enjoy. I have baked cakes and biscuits using spelt flour and honey for when I've really fancied having them. (my customers have enjoyed them too, without knowing that they're healthy
