Are potatoes allowed? Only sweet potatoes are mentioned in the vid, so I assume not [turkey steaks baked with pesto, broad bean mash and sweet potato chips tonight].

thrifty · 29/06/2010 19:44

WWWY - i had some vivaldi potatoes from sainsburys last week, they're supposed to be lower carb, however, i didn't lose any weight last week at all (might have been the take away curry on friday), so maybe best avoid them.

Riven - don't know about the tortillas, what are the ingredients on the packet? I made spelt tortillas so we could have fajita's one night, they cracked easily but were edible yes spelt flour is quite alot more expensive about £1.65 in tesco i think, more in holland and barratt.

shortandsweet2 · 30/06/2010 07:23

Morning

The ladies who are asking for the email - In all honesty it doesn't tell you anything about the diet, it only gives you a 14 day very strict diet. If you would still like it then let me know.

I have found someone doing all 10 books on CD for a buy it now of £10 and £1.50 PP. I was thinking we could all chip in together and get it? Could be around 50p or a pound each. If we do this I could ask her to send it in an email instead of a CD.

Let me know what you think.

Piffle · 30/06/2010 08:48

Could you give us some details of the 14 day diet?
What do you breakfast on? < clueless>
I'd normally do puffed brown rice and low fat natural yoghurt and fruit?

thrifty · 30/06/2010 13:33

shortandsweet, I have emailed you something that may be of interest

piffle, that sounds like a great breakfast.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 30/06/2010 17:36

I'd be up for a share in the email!

shortandsweet2 · 02/07/2010 07:13

Hey

I am really off the diet this week. Have just found out my DH will be getting made reduntant in March so was a big shock and haven't really bothered about the diet.

Hope you are all doing better than me.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 02/07/2010 08:00

So sorry to hear that SAS2 - things like that put your priorities in order somewhat don't they! Hope things look up soon.

I think my portions are too big - it's clearly not enough to change to spelt and drop the sugar if your plate is too full.

thrifty · 03/07/2010 12:17

HI all,

Shortandsweet - thats terible news. I'm not suprised your diet has slipped. I do hope things start looking up for you soon.

WWWY - I think i had the portion size problem (and still do to some extent!) especially when i made meatballs in tomato sauce last night, they were totally yum,i had seconds!).

one thing i've been trying to do the last few days is to eat more regularly, i.e. have breakfast at 7.30 (instead of 9.30 when i get hungry) and then have breakfast again at 10.30, lunch at 1ish, a snack late afternoon and tea around 7.30. If you eat lots of smaller meals you dont feel so humgry,so automatically eat less at lunch and tea. I've noticed the difference the last couple of days (though its quite hard to keep eating and not wait until your body says feed me), and I have finally got down to 10 1/2 stone this week :-) so i have lost a whole stone since i started. only 1 more stone to go!

shortandsweet2 · 05/07/2010 17:38

Hey thanks girlies. Have been doing good now when I got over the shock of it

I ended up putting 3lb on but didn't watch what I was doing and was getting takeaways

Back on it again and I have come off the pill as I don't think it is helping me at all. I already feel my sex drive rising and it was nonexsitent before (sorry if TMI)

Hope you are all doing well

WhatsWrongWithYou · 06/07/2010 07:39

< creeps in red-faced >
I've been doing this for a week now and have put on 3lbs!
I know I must be doing something wrong - I woke up this am nearly a pound heavier than yesterday, and I only SW had lentil and bacon soup with spelt toast last night.
What's really pissing me off is that I haven't had sugar in any form at all apart from the honey in the bread, and normally when I drop sugar the weight melts away.
I'm getting panicky now as it's less than 3 weeks 'til we go on holiday and I wanted my last half stone to be gone by then.
Think I'll have to get my 'Shred' DVD out and actually do it - things must be desperate!
Good luck with the diet and everything else, Short - glad to hear you're feeling better.

thrifty · 06/07/2010 09:17

hi :-)
glad to hear your over the shock shortandsweet, and back on board. Those take aways are bad eh? Last time we had a curry and wine i didn't lose any either. My libido is being extremely slow to return, much to dp's disappointment :-)

wwyd, oh, thats not good news, but its still possible to lose that 1/2 stone have you tried eating every 3 hours from the time you wake? Also make sure your 3 main meals include carbs, protein and green veg. (heavy on the veg). Snack on nuts and fruit. I bought an exercise plan ebook. There's a lot me waffle but there's a few pages of exercises you can do at home just using your body weight. Would you like me to email it to you?

WhatsWrongWithYou · 07/07/2010 23:38

Thanks Thrifty - I've got the 30 day Shred DVD, plus I'm a gym member, but not getting my arse in gear and going more than once a week atm.

I also have a downloaded exercise session (The Truth About Abs), plus various other DVDs.

My problem is I just don't do them - I actually feel better afterwards but would still rather sit and do nothing .

Don't know what would motivate me to keep it up, but I wouldn't want to waste your time sending me something that won't get used.

thrifty · 10/07/2010 08:54

saturday morning weigh in. just wanted to report that i've lost a pound this week, despite going to the pub last night and having 2 glasses of wine.

I don't know what to suggest about your lack of motivation WWYD, my motivation is coming from my desire to have lost the weight by the mid august when we go on holiday. I am oing to have an ice cream (or even a cream tea! on holiday if I've got shot of this last stone). I think it helps that its still coming off. I did feel a bit demotivated in the weeks that i didn't lose any weight, however i do feel trimmer and the exercies are heping me to feel more toned. The ebook sugguests just 15mins 3 times a week, which is what i have done this week.

shortandsweet, how have you done this week?

WhatsWrongWithYou · 10/07/2010 16:48

Good news - completed Day1 of Shred this am!
There's absolutely no reason for me not to do this every day; it's perfectly do-able and much quicker than going to the gym.
I added in some extra arse-lifting moves at the end.
Thanks for your encouraging words Thrifty, I agree the motivation is the holiday and the thought of not having to be embarrassed to stand up in my costume!
I got tres dis-heartened last week when I realised I'd put 3lbs on for no apparent reason, but actually that often happens to me initially when I change my way of eating.
Have started to make spelt soda bread, which is delish and much less of a faff than all that kneading and proving.

thrifty · 10/07/2010 17:12

good for you wwwy :-) sometimes its just a case of getting back into it.

ooo, spelt soda bread sounds good, is it light and airy? I've yet to make bread thats worthy of a sandwich.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 10/07/2010 17:17

So far so good - it comes out as a round raised disc, so you get long thin slices from it, but you could probably make them into little sarnies.

thrifty · 11/07/2010 10:34

ooo...just had the most delicious (but probably not all that healthy) breakfast.
I made spelt flour scotch pancakes, we had them with bacon, banana and maple syrup. totally yum, but will need a long walk today!

shortandsweet2 · 12/07/2010 08:10

Hi ladies

Thrifty I have now lost the weight I put on. I had my mum's 60th on Saturday so wasn't the best on the diet but had a great night.

WWWY I have the shread DVD and it is very good but have been very lazy doing it lately. I think its the heat.

Hope you have a good week.

thrifty · 14/07/2010 18:06

Hi Ladies :-)

thats great news shortandsweet:-) midweek now, how are you getting on, its a bit cooler this week ?

WWWY - how's your shreading going?

I have to report great success with just doing 15mins intensive FBF exercises, every 2 days. I'm now under 10 1/2 stone and i feel fab. had a very busy afternoon, and have dug out some size 12 trousers (well theyre tesco's so probably a bit bigger), but I've got them on and done up, yippee, I have a bit of a muffin top with it, but hey. I feel remotivated.
My cycle's gone up the swanny though, i suppose you cant have everything

shortandsweet2 · 14/07/2010 18:19

Hey thrifty - How much have you lost in total now? I am due on any day now so considering I haven't had AF for about 4yrs I can feel its going to be a big. I feel so bloated already and look 4mths pregnant.

Since coming off the pill I feel less tired, don't each as much and am a lot less stressed and its only been 2 weeks!

I know I am being too carby at the mo but have been so lazy.
Had dry porridge with yoghurt for breakfast, 2 satsumas, rye bread with l/f soft cheese and avocado and then wheat free pasta with pesto. Can I ask what the rest of you have?

thrifty · 15/07/2010 10:04

hi shortandsweet :-)
i reckon i've lost around 15lbs so far. I've got 5 weeks to go, until i started exercising weight loss had slowed to around 1lb a week, though i reckon i'll shed 2lbs this week if i don't blow it with wine on friday night :-)
i've probably gone more low carb as time has gone on, not really intentionally, but i don't eat hardly any bready stuff, except at the weekends, mostly cos i can't be bothered to make it, and a little cos i find i have no energy, even after eating the spelt. Am going to the doctor this afternoon, i was going to see if they could test me for gluten intolerance. Also to find out why my lower ab pain has not gone away despite being on a near perfect diet for 2months.
I tried the millet the other night :-) i think i prefer brown rice though.

shortandsweet2 · 15/07/2010 11:15

Hope the doctors go well thrifty! Since Monday I have put on 3lbs!! I must be due on any day now to have that kind of gain.

Can I ask what you have for breakfast. My problem is when I am at work yoghurt and dry porridge seems the easiest (and healthest) thing to grab. I also bought that sweetener that she talks about from ebay and will try it out this weekend.

LauraNorder · 15/07/2010 11:29

Hi ladies - could I join you? I really need to loose some weight. My wardrobe is about 10% functional as I can't fit into anything else

I have the link for the video which I plan to watch when DD2 has her nap

thrifty · 15/07/2010 16:00

its probably all water shortansweet :-) hope you get some relief soon. could you be pregnant?

i found i put on just before too, although i didn't realise it cos i came on a week early and have not stopped! dp is disappointed in that too :-) i was reading on a lowcarbing forum that when you burn fat quickly (like on atkins) the fat that you burn releases oestrogens into your system making your cycle haywire, though they reckon it should settle down after a couple of months. I'm guessing thats what happened as soon as i started exercising.

for breakfast i usually have instant porridge (hot oat cereal) with dash of honey, however, i ran out so have been having nakd bars for breakfast yesterday and today. prefer the porridge though, it doesn't require any chewing (well mostly anyway) and is easier to eat when you dont feel like eating. do you have a microwave at work to heat the milk in?

ooo, let me know what the stevia is like. it seemed rather expensive. i noticed you can by agarve (i think thats what its called) in tesco now, its the syrup from cactus, supposed to be low gi, though i've no idea what its like.

Laura - welcome :-)
