Morning

I made some spelt bread last night, it reminds me a bit of wheaten bread. It is quite nice with some butter on it

Still have not received the ebook, 24hrs my arse!

Riven I think you would replace the sugar with honey and if the receipe says 225g of sugar instead add 225g of honey.

They are doing strawberries and cream at work today and will be have some, yum yum

Hope you are well, I have put on a pound but I think it may be water retention than actual real weight

thrifty · 18/06/2010 07:24

morning :-)
glad your bread came out ok. I might ask on freecycle for a breadmaker, they come up quite regularly on ours. My hand made efforts have left definate room for improvement :-)
shame about the ebook, have you emailed them?
I try (but fail) to only weigh myself on a saturday morning before breakfast, and naked to get a reading for the week, it seems to be when i an at my lightest :-) i've had a busy week so i'm hoping tomorrow morning will bring news of great joy!

shortandsweet2 · 18/06/2010 07:43

Thrifty it take about 5hrs to do, I let the bread ferment for 2yrs then kneeded and then left for a further 2hrs, then cooked it for 45m - I think the longer you leave the yeast to work the better it tastes

thrifty · 18/06/2010 07:56

oh, and i treated myself last night and ordered some teas from mycupoft.co.uk. They're a bit pricey, but dp bought me the green tea for christmas, and i only have one bag left. I was a bit when i got it cos i've always found green tea to be the driest drink in the world, but i was so suprised when i tried it, it really has a delicate flavour, and is much paler than your normal herbal bags. So i pushed the boat out and ordered, green tea with mint, wild berry and vanilla. Am hoping they will be as nice as the green tea and help me cut down on the regular tea/coffee that i drink :-)

thrifty · 18/06/2010 08:04

ooo good tip about the bread. I will try again tomorrow, i know my kneeding skills need work, how long do you kneed it for between times?

shortandsweet2 · 18/06/2010 08:10

When you mix it all up kneed for about 5min and the for 2min 2hrs later, leave it on the baking try for a further 2hrs and then just pop in the oven

The teas sound very yummy. Have you ever tried white tea, its got all the benefits of green tea but IMO tastes a lot better.

thrifty · 18/06/2010 08:58

ooo not tried white tea, or even heard of it. Will look out for it :-)

AvadaKedavra · 18/06/2010 09:01

Can I add this one into the mix :

Dax Moy Elimination Diet.

Totally free and looks to be same kind of thing.
I've lost 3 stone doing this in the past and now am redoing it and have lost 1.5 stone so far

thrifty · 18/06/2010 09:33

how do you stop your bread from sticking to the damp teatowel whilst its proving? Or do you just leave it uncovered?

BudaisintheZONE · 18/06/2010 09:53

That looks interesting AvadaK. I do think that all the processed crap that passes for food these days is a huge reason for lots of ailments and obesity. I think we end up craving things because what we are putting into our bodies is nutritionally useless so the body signals for more but we give it more crap.

Read an interesting article in this month's Good Housekeeping about a lady who has lost 6 stone by totally changing the way she eats and what she eats. She is eating small meals of healthy fresh foods. Not the junk that she used to eat.

AvadaKedavra · 18/06/2010 10:25

Thrifty, when I made bread I used a greased bowl and greasedclingfilm over the top of it. unless I wanted a crusty loaf then would do the teatowel thing instead

Buda, I entirely agree with you. I am eating really really well/lots and still losing weight before I would eat a lot less but of things that were processed and I'd balloon. Not that it was entirely junk but still.

thrifty · 18/06/2010 11:06

thanks ava, will try that. The diet was interesting i thought, and if i find my weight loss slows down i might give it a try.
I have to say, i have felt so much better in myself since giving up wheat. And i really notice if i've had something with wheat in it now. I got a bit fed up last week, and dp wanted a "normal" tea, so i did lamb grills (processed, so only had a small bit) and had gravy (from a tin) too. I really paid for it the next day, my colon complained bitterly and i felt uncomfortable and bloated.

msboogie · 18/06/2010 11:19

I agree that processed food is the cause of a lot of peoples' ills today.

Does anyone have a recipe for the spelt bread? I might take the breadmaker out of retirement...

shortandsweet2 · 18/06/2010 15:43

Right have received the ebook and if you haven't received it let me know.

BudaisintheZONE · 18/06/2010 15:52

Hi shortandsweet - email received. Thanks so much. Just printing off to have a look. A guy DH works with did the Abs diet a few years ago and copied it for DH - must have a look at it.

msboogie · 18/06/2010 16:03

Bellabellabella · 18/06/2010 16:19

Does anyone know if tinned tomatoes are allowed please? I have bought organic ones as the contents label just says 'Tomatoes' whereas others have citric acid.

shortandsweet2 · 18/06/2010 16:24

Yes bella tinned tomatoes are fine as long as nothing is added.

Your welcome ladies!

thrifty · 18/06/2010 17:23

ooo fantastic, thanks so much shortandsweet.

sorry you've had a bad day Riven. Hope your DD's operation went ok.

I've been really craving sausages, so i went to ask the butcher what they put in to give it a sausagey taste, he said you cant buy it, but he sold me 2 gluten free, nothing added, no crap (pork, black pepper and fennel, i think) sausages. I am going to make some bread tonight, then i'm going have a guilt free sausage and egg breakfast tomorrow.

Bellabellabella · 18/06/2010 17:59

Thank you S&S2,that makes life easier!

Hope things improve for you,Riven.

thrifty · 19/06/2010 08:15

morning all,

well i am a bit disappointed this morning, cos i made some muffins and baked beans last night to have with my sausage and egg breakfast, but the muffins didn't rise, because i didn't add any sugar/honey and my baked beans i put in the crockpot overnight but forgot to set the timer so have come down this morning to burnt solid bean mass. my full cooked breakfast dreams lay shattered in the bin. ho hum.

on the plus side I've got 2lbs to go til i've lost a stone, so hopefully this time next week I'll have hit the half way mark!
