Dukan Diet, anyone trying it

Hi, I have started the Dukan Diet. Managed to get thru day 1. Anyone else trying it? What do you think ?

SuperSoph73 · 20/05/2010 09:19

Morning. DH is finding it OK although quite hard as he loves his snacks and chocolate. He's on day 4 today and REALLY looking forward to having salad (which he hates) so that's a good sign.

uggmum - I hadn't really thought of it like that. I think I might go back to mainly protein for a while though as I really do need to lose a little bit more than I have before starting to add all the other stuff in.

MrsFawlty - yes I believe you can have quorn & tofu as well, although I have heard that the diet is a lot more difficult to do if you are vegetarian, sorry. However, maybe you could give it a go and let us know how you get on.

fromhereyoucansee - when you have the sliced ham, turkey, chicken, etc it is supposed to be 0% salt AFAIK and I think it's got to be 0% fat or as low as you can possibly go. Diet sodas are fine as long as you don't drink too many and again check the sodium content. This is why only certain types of fizzy water are acceptable as the others are way too high in salt. Diet coke is "good" because 1 can only has 0.03g(?) sodium.

insertexpletive - oh lucky you, sugar free ketchup. It is sooo difficult to find low sugar, low salt stuff here and I'm going to see if I can find oat bran but I've probably got more chance of winning the lottery

loopydoopy - my AF is due soon as well so that's probably a reason for not losing anything so far this week. The funny thing was that it was DH that pointed out that this was probably the reason why!!

I don't know whether I've lost any inches either as didn't bother to measure myself, but like you insertexpletive my trousers are nowhere near as snug. It also sounds like we're the same size as I can now get comfortably back into a size 16

insertexpletive · 20/05/2010 10:17

I found the sugar free ketchup online -
www.avidlite.co.uk

They also have a range of sugar and fat free sweets with low net carbs if you fancy...

SuperSoph73 · 20/05/2010 13:24

I'll have a look and see if they deliver outside the UK ... what are the chances do you think?

insertexpletive · 20/05/2010 13:34

Yes, they deliver outside of the UK, but not sure how much it would cost as they charge by weight.

You start off by telling them the country you are in, so as you put items into your 'basket' they tell you the total delivery charges as you go along, so no surprises at the end!

SuperSoph73 · 20/05/2010 13:34

Blimey ... just had a quick look at their delivery charges Think I'll just have to abstain completely

SuperSoph73 · 20/05/2010 13:35

X-post LOL

fromhereyoucanseethesea · 20/05/2010 15:38

i am actually heavier...didn't realise it was low or no salt meat...no wonder. i've been horsing bacon (fat cut off) and eating at least 3 packs of meat a day...drinking loads of water though!

SuperSoph73 · 20/05/2010 16:40

fromhereyoucansee - aahh! You must buy the 0% salt stuff. It's like soy sauce, it's OK in tiny amounts when you're making a marinade but only now and then as it's packed with salt. I must admit though the packs of meat that are 0% salt, fat that we buy here taste strange, although I'm sort of getting used to it now!

loopydoopy · 20/05/2010 16:50

i have put a 1 lb back on this morning

fromhereyoucanseethesea · 20/05/2010 17:11

super soph - you are super!!

what meat are you eating?

pipsqueak · 20/05/2010 23:51

can you have potatos /pasta etc on teh crusie stage?

insertexpletive · 21/05/2010 09:37

Hi Pipsqueak

No pasta, potatoes, bread, rice etc on cruise stage I'm afraid.
Just protein, veg and fat free dairy.

Once you achieve your desired weight, you stay on a diet of sorts and start to reintroduce other types of foods. The length of time you then stay on this depends on how much weight you have lost.

I am now three weeks in today and have lost 14lbs which I am delighted with. Am going away on a girls weekend tomorrow though, so not sure how much damage I will do... Will try to be good with food, but the alcohol intake is likely to be significant

TheBuggerofSuburbia · 21/05/2010 11:27

Insertexpletive, that is amaaaazing, well done, and to you to supersoph. Enjoy your weekend.

Day 4 here. I'm not sure if I've lost anything - our scales are all over the place, but I think I've lost 3-4lbs.

Have you tried the online calculator thing at the Dukan website? It works out your target weight, how long it takes to get there, etc? Also, I read some more of the book last night - I'd only read the actual diet pages til now - some of it is a bit bizarre I think. Dukan gives you exercises to do in bed - no fnarr fnarrs, thank you, even though it's French, it's not those kind of exercises - and advises not wearing layers/using blankets/dropping the thermostat to burn more calories.

I am going to have veggies tomorrow. Can't wait. I went shopping this morning, and bought lots of lovely veggies... Mmmmm. And sugar free jelly - going to have that with 0% fat Greek yogurt later.

SuperSoph73 · 21/05/2010 11:59

Hey there

fromhereyoucansee - I don't live in the UK so can't give you any pointers as to what brand to buy. I go to the cold meat counter at our supermarket and get the 0% salt, 0% fat chicken, turkey & ham. Don't flatter me too much otherwise I'll have to open the other door to get out LOL

TBoS - I hadn't thought about jelly ... yummy, haven't had jelly in years. It'll be keeping it away from the DS's that will be the problem I've got veggies for lunch, I made baked cauliflower & mushrooms last night and it smells divine. You'd never have heard me say things like that before I started this diet, trust me

insertexpletive - well done you and I hope you have a great weekend, you definitely deserve it

loopydoopy · 21/05/2010 13:34

well done everyone

i lost that extra lb but thats still only 4lb so far in nearly 2 weeks, may start the attack phase again just to give me that little push as feeling really like i want to give up at the mo not enjoying (i know who ever enjoys dieting)

Miggsie · 22/05/2010 18:27

I've lost 10lb in 4 weeks...but I refuse to eat zero fat dairy. I do not believe it is viable food (yes, I am a bit mad) so I'm eating yoghurt I make myself out of semi skimmed milk and so that is why I think my loss has been slower, then again 10lb off so far, and another 10lb to go.

For the record:

I am sick of chicken.

I have been eating tofu.

I put balsamic vinegar on everything, even the cat.

I also am eating beans and chickpeas for protein...I like them!

My bras now fit without rubbing.

DH has joined me on the diet when he is home so I don't have to cook food for him that I can't eat. He's lost 8lb so far.

And...last week someone said to me: "ooh, Miggsie, have you lost weight?" and I said "YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

uggmum · 22/05/2010 22:16

Well done Miggsie that is great news.

I have now lost a total of 17 and a half pounds in 4 weeks. I would like to lose a further 20 pounds.

Very happy with result. At last I have found a diet that suits me.

Keep up the good work everyone.

fromhereyoucanseethesea · 23/05/2010 18:58

well, i have lost nothing and not cheated at all...that's one whole week...however, my periods arrived today- a week early. should i keep going 'cos right now i'm felling the pull of the b*ead tin - help me quick!!!

uggmum · 23/05/2010 20:43

The book does say that you may not lose anything when your period is due. I would persevere you will prob lose some after your period. I would prob keep on attack for a further 5 days and see what happens.

OP posts:
MrsFawlty · 24/05/2010 13:19

Can I just ask if anyone has stopped and piled it all back on in 2 days? Am still umming and ahhing about trying this, but not sure about putting myself into ketosis (as it's never really lasted longterm!)

SuperSoph73 · 24/05/2010 14:44

Well done Miggsie & uggmum. I gained a kilo this weekend but I did have alcohol on Fri and Sat evening I've also got my period so am also blaming that My DH is doing really well on the diet, but he has ooddles more will-power than I do. I'm starting my exercise regime today though as my cold has nearly gone so I'm planning on doing 10/15 mins on the exercise bike and 10/15 mins on the multi-gym. Does this sound OK?

Did you all have nice weekends? I hear the weather in England was lovely

uggmum · 24/05/2010 18:16

Supersoph, Don't worry about putting on a kg, its prob down to the alcohol and hormones. Start the attack phase again for a few days and it will kick start your weight loss again

insertexpletive · 24/05/2010 20:03

Hi everyone

Hope you all had a good weekend. I had a great girls weekend away. Did not stick to diet totally with food or drink but had small portions to go with my large glasses of wine

I have put on 1lb but have also got my period this morning, so you never know, that may account for a little of it. I am back on the attack phase for three days, and still hoping to lose a couple more lbs this week.

MrsFawlty The book suggests that if you do come off the diet early to try and stick to stage three or possibly four of the diet and this will help guard against bouncing back to your original weight.

I have never been able to stick to a diet for the long-haul but have a good feeling about this one!

itstimmytime · 25/05/2010 14:36

Hi I have just started this today and will watch this thread with interest/support...

MrsFawlty · 25/05/2010 17:29

Thank you - am giving it a try but a veggie version. Will see how it goes...
