Hi, I have started the Dukan Diet. Managed to get thru day 1. Anyone else trying it? What do you think ?

mrswill · 01/05/2010 19:43

Finished day 1 anyway. Ive had poached eggs for breakfast, chicken and yogurt for dinner, tikka spiced salmon and one of them oatbran pancakes for tea. Does this sound alright. The oatbran pancakes are nothing to write home about, and tasted more suited to savoury type things than sweet. Planning on doing 5 days of the attack. Well done to thos who've lost weight!

uggmum · 01/05/2010 23:27

That is a great first day. Well done. I am on day 7 tomorrow. I would recommend that you don't weigh yourself until day 4. It seems to take 3 days to get to fat burning stage

This looks interesting but am gutted to find you can't do lots of exercise to begin with... why is that?

mrswill · 03/05/2010 10:24

On day 3 now. And cant say im finding it that bad apart from the occasional cant be arsed to eat anymore dry meat moment. Found out I benefit from strict rules when it comes to diets, or else i take the piss! My energy has been fine too. Am dreaming of tomatoes though. Twinkle, as my energy levels are fine, Im exercising as usual, doing davina, jogs and 30 day shred.

twinkle183 · 03/05/2010 10:44

I may just give it a try... so what are you allow to eat... I know it has probably been said before but can anyone help?

insertexpletive · 03/05/2010 11:23

Hello everyone.

Can I join you? I am on day four and although finding the diet easy to follow my energy levels are feeling a little rubbish today!

I have a truly terrible relationship with food and have put on about three stone in the last five years. I have not lost the baby weight gained through two pregnancies and need a push in the right direction.

This is a really restricted diet, particularly in the initial 'attack' phase, but to be honest, I think I need that, otherwise I buy the likes of riveta and just eat the whole packet iyswim!

I am missing sweet treats so have just purchased some sugar and fat free sweets from a diabetic website to satisfy my sweet tooth every now and again.

I am hoping that by following all four of the stages - beyond getting to my ideal weight (apparently by September )I will have better self control and not pile it all back on again.

Try this website for advice www.thedukandiet.org/Program/Main.html

The dreaded DM also had a few reports which are available on line.

Will keep an eye on this thread - I am 5lbs lighter after 4 days which is helping me keep up my enthusiasm!

uggmum · 03/05/2010 18:03

Hi, I am now 10 pounds lighter after 8 days. Really happy with that. Will continue on attack phase for now.

Hi all back from weekend away in a hotel and have to say found lunch & dinner hard as menu was full of carbs. Will weigh myself tomorrow & report back. Have made great homemade burgers with extra lean mince, lots of seasoning and dijon mustard, also salmon cooked with loads of chilli & garlic, chicken tikka. Good luck all.

janieann · 04/05/2010 10:59

Well weighed myself this morning and put on 1lb, and I was so restrained. Will do just protein till friday and see if that helps. Bit depressing though.

nikki1978 · 04/05/2010 18:42

I was thinking about doing this. My only concern is the exercise part. I have been doing British Military Fitness training and want to carry on (have paid and signed up) but will I collapse doing something so high intensity with no carbs?

janieann · 05/05/2010 12:53

Sorry nikki1978, don't know how you will feel. I'm feeling lousy today- headache, woozy. Have been on diet for 2 weeks now & don't know whether I should just give up. Anyone else feel rough, it would be helpful to know.

uggmum · 05/05/2010 18:25

I have been feeling a bit weak, went for a 4 mile brisk walk and was completely knackered.
I am not hungry but craving cake, (I have not given in though).
I am going to keep trying for now as the weight is coming off.

mrswill · 05/05/2010 20:59

hello all,

Nikki1978 - I havent noticed any change in my energy levels, and have been feeling slightly more energetic than usual these last 2 days. But I have been on a more or less pasta, bread, potato free diet for the last 4 months, so my body must be ok with low carbs now anyway. Not sure how your body would fare if your used to a lot of carby foods, then doing loads of exercise on not many.

Janieann - its so disappointing when you put the effort in, and you dont see results. I have the book, and he says if you have eaten a salty meal, or something like smoked salmon, something with more salt in, then your body can retain a good few pounds of water for a few days. Maybe try no salt for a few days then weigh again? I havent felt rough, but I have been on a low carb diet for some months, so am used to being deprived! hope you feel better soon.

Uggmum - you seem to have good results which is spurring me on. Im upping my exercise tomorrow when im on my first PV day, so we'll see how that goes. I literally cant wait for some salad (very sad). Am dying for a bit of cake, chocolate etc. Sometimes I think I was more happier fat than what I am now, as the thought of chocolate and all the nice things I could eat infront of the tele would light up my day. Have finished the attack today, am not sure whether to leave it another week to weigh, as I dont want the disappointment of putting on during the PV days.

Insertexpletive - how are you finding the diet, have you lost anymore?

justwhen · 05/05/2010 22:06

Hi

Having read all your inspiring stories I've ordered the book from amazon. Please keep this thread going as i know I'll need help!!

insertexpletive · 06/05/2010 13:46

Hello again everyone.

I am now on day 7 and have lost...8lbs!! I also tried on two pairs of trousers last night that I have not been able to get into for at least six months and they FIT! OK, a little snug, but I could not even do them up a week ago

This is definitely the kick start that I needed. I start on the next stage tomorrow - really looking forward to salad and veg!

I am really amazed that I do not feel hungry!

I have 3 stone to lose - so a long way to go, but I am determined this time.
What I most like about this diet is not really having to think about what I eat. I know what is allowed, so do not have to wonder "is this ok?" and that works for me.

I noticed a real decline in my energy levels at about day 4, but by day 5 I was feeling fine - in fact, better than fine - more energy than normal because not eating crap!

I have purchased the 30 day shred DVD and am hoping to have enough energy to give this a go.

Have taken oat bran and wheat flakes which has helped bowel issues

nikki1978 · 06/05/2010 16:11

On day two and am not weighing myself until I have finished day 5 so will let you know. For breakfast I have been having two eggs and lean ham, for lunch I have eaten chicken but managed to eat 5 pieces (2 drumsticks and 3 thighs - no skin) so think I may be having two much. Last night I had steak and an oatbran pancake and will have the same tonight. Am I eating too much?

I am doing my BMF class tonight and am feeling ok if a little tired (yawning more than usual) so hopefully I will get through it ok. It burns off about 500 cals a class so hopefully all the chicken I have eaten will power me through

uggmum · 06/05/2010 20:19

Hi, I stalled with weight loss for 2 days and this morning had lost another 1.5 pounds, so thats 11.5 so far.

I have upped the water intake to 2 litres a day then diet drinks in top, (I don't drink tea or coffee)

Mrswill- I do know what you mean, sometimes I think perhaps I was happy being fat. I love cake so much I dream about it. But I am staying firm. Its nearly summer and I want to feel better in a swimming costume.

So onwards we go, I will weigh again on Sun

justwhen · 06/05/2010 21:13

Uggmum well done that's fantastic! How long has it taken for this loss? I'm still waiting for my book from Amazon. Just a quick question is alcohol a total no no on this diet?

insertexpletive · 07/05/2010 11:31

Hi Justwhen

I am afraid alcohol is a no-no until you get to your desired weight. You then start on the third stage - consolidation which you stay on for five days for every 1lb lost.

The idea is that you do not then 'bounce back' to your starting weight. At this stage you can have two celebration meals per week which can include alcohol - but not to excess.

I think this diet is for the long-haul. You get to your desired weight relatively quickly but then have to consolidate that so it stays off, so you are still on a diet iyswim.

mrswill · 07/05/2010 13:17

What is everyone doing with the cruise phase, Im going for alternate days of protein and Veg, and just protein. Dont think I could do 5 days no veg again! So far Ive had one PV day, which I was more hungry on. Ive tried the oatbran pancake again, and its absolutely foul no matter what I put on it. I still havent weighed as I cant get to a scales, but am definately thinner, and my bust has shrunk!

uggmum · 07/05/2010 16:11

Hi, Mrs Will, I have been on it 12 days now. Had some veg yesterday, but back on protein only today

OP posts:
PinkyWithABrain · 07/05/2010 21:52

Hey all! My copy of the book arrived on Tuesday and I now realise I've been doing the diet wrong!! I strted straight away on veg and protein every day so essentially just cut out carbs and fruit! Did manage to lose 5 pounds though so it can't have been that bad! Decided though, having read the book cover to cover, that I'm starting again tomorrow so I'm on attack from Saturday through to Monday. Not sure how it's going to go or how effective it's going to be as I seem to have already given my body that initial shock the attck phase delivers!

You all are doing so well! It's really impressive! I think we need to start sharing recipes though because I'm struggling to get inspired...the book has some pretty tasty sounding stuff though!

And is it weird that I quite enjoy the oat bran pancakes??!!

insertexpletive · 08/05/2010 09:43

Hi Everyone.

Not tried the oat pancakes yet.

I use my oatbran and some wheatbran in a yoghurt in the evening.
I am using a small Danone (?sp) fat and sugar free fruit yoghurt, adding some fat free plain yoghurt and then mixing in oat and wheat bran.
This feels really substantial, eliminates my sweet tooth - (I eat it with a tea spoon so that it lasts longer) and find that it does the 'job' overnight and I have a good poo in the morning!

I can really reccommend the balsamic vinegar dressing in the book.
Planning to try the hollandaise sauce tonight with poached eggs and smoked salmon!

uggmum · 08/05/2010 12:30

Hi, 12.98 pounds down now, I have been eating a slice of bran crispbread from Holland and Barrett, its called, Slimming World Scandinavian Bran Crispbread. I dip it in a poached egg and it makes it bearable. It puffs up in your stomach and makes you feel fuller, it also keeps you regular.
I am hoping to reach a stone weight loss by mid next week.
Good Luck everyone.

PinkyWithABrain · 08/05/2010 12:52

Uggmum - wow! You're doing so well! Congratulations on your fab loss! Are you doing much exercise along with the diet? You really are an inspiration!

For me I'm back to day 1 of the attack, so it's pure protein for me! For breakfast I had an oat bran pancake and a cup of coffee, was quite tasty actually! Just after lunch and I had some roast chicken, without the skin of course and ooh it was tasty! Feel rather stuffed now.
I have coursework to do all afternoon but I would quite like to get out for a walk at some point...it's a shame to waste the beautiful sunshine!

Insertexpletive - I'm going to try that hollandaise I think, i have some cod for dinner so I'm going to try one of the sauces with that!

Anyone found they are super thirsty? I feel like I could drink non-stop!
