.

IE - you are doing amazingly well and seem to have it sorted - even if you do have 'can't be arsed' days which must be expected.

I am back on the oats bran porridge and realise is the thing I look forward to most days. I now loathe Tesco prawns but do like a spicy chicken thigh or 3.

I'm no shining example here but find extra motivation in trying on clothes that are too small (and I have plenty!) when I'm feeeling demotivated as they are getting looser, albeit very very very slowly.

What annoys me most about Dukan is, having signed up on the website, that they send endless emails about buying coaching. Has anyone actually done that????

saltcod · 22/09/2010 22:10

Luckily my Dukan emails go straight to my junk folder - I couldn't believe the cost!!

Feeling very pleased with myself as have just completed day 6 of 30 day shred (hope it doesn't matter too much that I seem to always have 1 or 2 days off between each session Blush) and also started the couch to 5k. Skipped week 1 and went straight to week 2 which was manageable without killing myself!

Am sort of hoping that it makes up for the massive fall off of the wagon recently

Wondering whether I dare weigh myself tomorrow & see what damage those caramel shortbreads & chips have done though....

saltcod · 22/09/2010 22:11

Moonshine, my fave is the oatbran porridge too. Shame it's such a small helping though :(

Katisha · 22/09/2010 22:19

This is a very high security wagon! I can't seem to get to the bread bin at all..

Despite doing well a while ago I have had my illusions of slimness well and truly shattered by a depressing clothes shopping experience in M&S, who evidently believe that size 14 in skirts and trousers is for people with no hips to speak of.

I have no idea why anyone would fork out all that money for the website coaching - all they do on the parts of the website that I can access is trot out the party line - I can't believe it does anything much more than the book. I reckon it's more use on somewhere like here, where real people find ways to make it all work.

saltcod · 22/09/2010 23:04

Katisha, I have the same prob with the top of my arms :(

How closely did everyone read the book? I skipped big chunks of it - lots of it seemed quite waffley & repetitive.

Have just cooked some chicken kievs to have cold at work tomorrow (I'll remove the breadcrumbs first... oh the things we do!)

Off to bed now & to dream away the lbs...

Hi

I'm thinking of doing the Dukan diet but can't afford to buy the books - or afford the coaching fees (!!) and have therefore gained most of my information from here or the dreaded DM or the library copy I've had to return ...

I've got a couple of queries though and hope someone here can help.

What sort of things can you eat for breakfast other than eggs?

Also I've noticed that some recipes I've seen call for liquid sweetener - what is this and where can I get it? And what sweeteners are suitable for Dukan - can I use Splenda or does it have to be Aspartame?

And what yoghurts are suitable? Looking more for a flavoured yog rather than plain - Dukan mentions lemon flavoured - has anyone ever found a lemon-fat free yoghurt?

Final question - and probably most important - how doable is this diet. I did Atkins years ago and lost weight but found it pita ... and had bloody awful breath - or do I just have to grit my teeth and get on with it - have about 20lb to lose ...

Hope someone can help ...

PandaBear · 23/09/2010 08:30

Hi KDK. Honestly, I have found Dukan diet to be doable (with the odd mishap) - but I am a real meat eater. If you are not someone who enjoys eating meat then I would say this is not the diet for you. With regards to yoghurts Activa do a lemon fat free one. And Breakfast... Oat Bran porridge is a favourite here - or yuo could go continental and have mixed meats and some pretend bread (made with oat bran).

Me..... I've reached a plateau. Despite being mostly good - I'm stuck at 1 stone down. Any hints for getting it moving again??

robin3 · 23/09/2010 10:09

Kdk...I'm not a long-termer like many on here, but thought it might help to share my current enthusiasm.

So I've managed to stick to attack phase for 3 days. I was on a low GI diet before so it wasn't the first week when you loose loads of water. That said I appear to have lost 3lbs and my stomach has disappeared.

I'm getting much better at finding things to eat and last night with the help of my dinner and a yoghurt with oatbran, I went to bed full and woke up without feeling light-headed. I haven't been tempted to have a glass of wine but because I've been scared i might fall over after 1 glass (given the emptiness of my tummy before dinner).

So I've got 10lbs to go to reach my Dukan ideal weight. I'm viewing this as a race to get to the consolidation phase because that is where I always let myself down...loose 2 stone and in 6 months gain it back. The consolidation phase is very reassuring and doesnt seem nearly as limited. Dreaming about the bread and cheese already. Also reminding myself that this does mean being on a diet regime of sorts through to Christmas.

I have tried most diets and this and the low GI diet have worked best by far. This does seem simple to follow but more limited. Low GI is very healthy and steady and you dont get hungry but I need to see rapid results and need to manage what happens after I loose it. Also compared to cabbage soup and juicing (both of which I've done) this is fine.

Like PandaBear I'd say it helps a lot if you do like proteins and in my case I love fish, seafood, roast chicken, cold beef, poached eggs, vanilla yoghurt, the fact that I can still have a skinny latte...trying very hard to focus on all the things i can have. At the weekend will try the galettes.

kdk · 23/09/2010 10:30

Think my problem is likely to be breakfast - I used to be (pre DC!) a fag and a cup of coffee girl but have got used to bowl of cereal with fruit and low fat/fat free yoghurt - just wondering what to replace it with - and whether if I eat just a yoghurt, whether I'll be starving an hour later.

Also much as I'm a happy carnivore, I love fruit and salad also .... and dreading missing them.

Suppose I'll just have to give it a shot and see.

Hi, I am new and just started doing the Dukan Diet yesterday as I am at home with a cold and figured the energy slump predicted wouldn't matter if I was in bed anyway Wink

I started off yesterday morning weighing 11 stones 12lbs and today weighed 11st 10 and a half. I suspect this could be also that I am in the middle of my TOTM and it could be masking results but so far, apart from the cold I am feeling OK.

I have read the whole board and am feeling so inspired by your stories. I am hoping to lose as much as possible in 5 weeks as my hubby comes home from overseas then and I would like there to be a little less of me to love Blush

I bought the book and am looking at the recipes at www.mydukandiet.com and am hoping this time I will have success as on the Atkins I actually gained weight despite following it quite strictly and I didn't feel good about all the fat I was eating.

I tried the cinnamon pancake recipe yesterday and it made the oatbran a bit more bearable but still felt like I was eating sawdust. Hopefully I will get used to it..

Your stories have really helped fire me up,much more than the book so here goes....

Dukandoit · 23/09/2010 15:01

(Name change for diet)
Hi,
I've been reading this thread and feel really inspired and motivated by all your stories. I started the Dukan diet last weekend am absolutely thrilled to have lost 6 1/2 pounds, so far. I've made attempts at dieting before but I usually feel so hungry that by day three I devour anything tasty in the cupboard and undo all my good work.

But this is different, and I have not had that urge to eat sweet things. I love watching the scales drop each day, my trousers feel looser and I'm not hungry.

Well done to everyone doing Dukan and thanks for posting this inspirational thread!!!

Dukandoit · 23/09/2010 15:06

Sorry, not last weekend, last week and...

(started last Monday actually after seeing article with recipes in DM).

WorldsSlowestTypist · 23/09/2010 17:30

Hi all,
I have been lurking for some time and I have just reached my target weight. I am a bit nervous about the consolidation phase and I am starting it gradually - adding a piece of fruit a day this week and probably bread next week etc. Does anyone know if it is ok to have a couple of Ryvita instead of the wholemeal bread? I have not lost any weight this week so I am concerned that I might gain if I add carbs too suddenly. I also find bread quite addictive so I am very wary of eating it.
Does anyone have reassuring stories about consolidation?

insertexpletive · 23/09/2010 17:44

I am on consolidation phase too and have been avoiding bread where possible. I am having a couple of Aktins crispbread thingies when I need a bread type fix (particularly like these to dip in my boiled egg)

I have not put any weight on yet, and in fact lost a further 1lb in first week as I was being so careful. I have had a couple of blow outs but just did two days on attack after to make up for it.
I am also not having two portions of pasta/rice a week but have had pasta when at a friend's for dinner and it was good not to have to say no.

I am actually hoping that I have now adapted to a bit of a lifestyle change and that I will choose healthier options most of the time. When I went out for my first 'celebration meal' I still went for chicken salad but added a couple of glasses of wine Wink

How long are you looking at staying on phase three?

WorldsSlowestTypist · 23/09/2010 17:54

I am not really sure IE. I lost alot of weight over several months just calorie counting and then went on hols and gained quite a lot back injust 2 weeks!!!
When I got home I went on Dukan and lost the regained weight and some more. So do I calculate my consolidation period based on my total weightloss (around 4 stone)or my Dukan weight loss(around 1 stone)?

insertexpletive · 23/09/2010 18:07

I would go on your total weightloss if you can bear the thought of being on an extended (but easier to manage) diet for 9 months

I think Dukan's thinking is that if you can manage to retrain your body into accepting your new weight over this time you are less likely to bounce back to your original weight.

I am just getting my head around the fact that I will be on phase three until March/April 2011!

Oh gosh I am kidding myself that I won't have to do the whole consolidation thing but am also not even thinking about it too much - feels a long way off atm.

Lottie that is an excellent lost. I finally shifted another pound below my lowest Dukan weight but have still only done half as well as you. I am determined not to have alcohol this weekend, otherwise I will undo all this week's losses.

Just to add my yoghurt preferences are the banana and custard muller lites and the activia vanilla. Can I also say thank you to Lottie for pointing me towards Greek yoghurt with some cocoa powder and sweetner (I use Splenda) - tis very very nice Smile.

The clothes thing is annoying. I have loads of size 14 stuff. Some fitted quite nicely even when I was 9lbs heavier whilst I can barely do the zip up on some other stuff still Hmm.

Anyway I am wasting time so must get down the gym. Have a good day all!

Hi Londonlottie - do you know if Stevia is available in the UK - I've got a feeling it isn't .... also I'm having trouble finding a liquid sweetener - suppose I'll have to dissolve Splenda or something ...

Just noticed you're a twin mummy too!

Hi Lottie - mine are big bruisers of six years old now and at least are at school some of the time. Blatant thread hijack but how are you finding it? And admire the huge weightloss - having twins of that age is enough to drive most people to the biscuit barrel!
