You're more of a spring chicken now than I was when mine were born - exceptionally old mum here! I was the stereotype worst case scenario mother - elderly primagravida (their words not mine), twin pregnancy - and had just prior to conception being diagnosed as menopausal. No wonder I'm overweight! Glad to know you're enjoying your two - and again congrats with the weight loss. I'm definitely starting Monday - want to get the attack phase out of the way during the week so I can at least eat a salad next weekend!

Go to the party Lottie - drink white wine spritzer or very long vodka/gin and slimline tonic.
For food - is it a dinner party, or nibbles and drinks? If dinner party, you can stick to the basics fairly easily, if nibbles, try and stand away from them Wink, or make sure you stick to veg crudite etc.

If you can do a combination of Atkins and Dukan, I bet there will be plenty you can enjoy - just stay away from the crisps Grin

I have just enjoyed half an hour on the Next website buying size 12 clothes as had a bit of a wardrobe sort out yesterday and my size 14 stuff is all too big now (with the exception of one pair of trousers that are 8 years old - were clothes much smaller then do you think?)

I have kept a pair of my size 18/20 trousers that I wore at Easter this year - just to remind myself how important it is not to go back there.

Keep going everyone!

Hi all,

I'm thinking of doing the Dukan diet. I have already lost a fair amount of weight (40lbs) by following low calory diet for over a year, but have been facing a plateau for quite some time now and I would really like to try something new to make the weight go down again. I need another 20lbs down. I am not looking for a quick fix as I spend most of the previous 12 months dieting, but I feel that I am losing my strength now.

So, I am thinking about going on the Dukan diet, but I worry if it is compatible with breastfeeding. As the diet is based on low carb food, I am worried if it would be safe for my 16mo old DD?

saltcod · 25/09/2010 21:08

Hi Buba, I just checked the Dukan site and it's a no-no with breastfeeding I'm afraid:

"The use of the services, including the customised slimming coaching programme, is reserved for people in good physical and psychological health. In the event of any doubt, users are recommended to consult their general practitioner BEFORE registering.

When paying, users affirm that they are not affected by any of the following cases: insulin dependent diabetes, eating disorders, cardiac insufficiency, renal insufficiency, subject to a current major depression, current pregnancy, current breastfeeding, being a vegetarian. "

HTH

Gulp, have just spent another £80 at the lowcarbmegastore - it's a lifesaver when you need chocolate, pasta & a bit of low-carb variety in your diet! Can highly recommend the angelhair pasta & the macaroni btw. I think it's about 5g net carbs per serving :)

saltcod · 25/09/2010 21:13

Wow insertexpletive, what a result! I'm currently in a mixture of size 12 and 14. Can't wait to be properly back in size 12 (or lower Wink)

saltcod · 25/09/2010 22:48

Ok, I'm just going to monopolise this thread & talk to myself tonight! Bet the rest of you are out partying or something Envy.

Have just done the 30 day shred (level 1 day 7) + week 2 (session 2) of the couch to 5k. Surely I should be as thin as a rake by now??!!

Right, I'll go now....

moonshine · 26/09/2010 16:38

I hear you Saltcod! No partying for me but I did quaff wine and crisps again [hangs head in shame], mostly because that long awaited- for loss of a pound went straight back on after a day of doing nearly 8 miles walking/running and eating so well Sad. Still not a good excuse but I am easily discouraged and I seem to have a weight I just cannot get below.

Does the pasta taste anything like real pasta?? If it helps you stay on the dieting wagon, then why not stock up on low-carb stuff? I always think with diets you start off following it to the letter and then you have to adapt it to what works long-term for you and what you can get away with.

So I hope you went and enjoyed your party too Lottie.

I on the otherhand need to give myself a good talking to, give up on trying to fit into 'that dress' for my event in 10 days' time (damn you Karen Millen and your small sizing or I am deluded?) and be more realistic about what I can achieve.

BubaMarra · 27/09/2010 13:05

Thanks saltcod on that info regarding Dukan diet and breastfeeding. Guess I'll just have to stick to my current low calory weight loss plan :(

hello ladies - I have been reading all posts for the past 14 days (have now done 12 days on Dukan and lost 14lbs already) and want to thank you for some great info. All I have to say is that I think it's comparable to allaboutw8 and lighterlife regarding weight loss but is more manageable given you can actually EAT with a KNIFE and FORK - shock, horror. Here's to all our successes! Only another 50lbs to go Smile

ihatethecold · 27/09/2010 16:11

hi everyone. ive read all your threads with interest, i got the book and have been on this diet for a week now, lost 6lbs so far, i havent found it too difficult as yet.
i did 2 days crashing, am now alternating between pp and pv.
am getting a little bored of meat and eggs though..
i tried to make the dukan muffins yesterday..
they were vile. like sawdust
has anyone found anything sweet that they can make (not yoghurt) eating 2 of them a day already.

insertexpletive · 27/09/2010 17:50

YOu can have 4 sugar and fat free sweets per day and unlimited sugar free gum - it really helps me Smile

kdk · 27/09/2010 19:04

What sort of sugar and fat free sweets - and where does one buy such things? Don't suppose sugar free chocolate counts does it?

insertexpletive · 27/09/2010 19:14

I get sweets and ketchup and some other more Atkins type stuff from here(including cracker thingies which are great for dunking in boiled eggs Grin}

Katisha · 27/09/2010 22:25

We'll soon be needing a new thread!

Right - I have to stop watching Spooks. Last week it was 2 chocolate eclairs. Tonight it was half a tub of chocolate custard.

Apart from that I was doing a bit better and have got back to the lowest weight I have been so far, when this epic plateau started, but I somehow haven't got it in me to be be really hard core at the moment.

saltcod · 28/09/2010 09:19

Ihatethecold there are some good dukan recipes here including cheesecakes, cookies & chocolate icecream!

Moonshine the pasta is good - perfectly edible. Whereas the Atkins brand of pasta is nasty - really rubbery. The lowcarbmegastore is great because it gives you ratings for most of the items so you can avoid all the awful ones!

Doing ok here - weight on the way down but rather slow. Tend to lose 0.2 or 0.3 of a lb per day. Did day 8 of the 30 day shred last night but couldn't face a run afterwards as well - will save that for tonight. It's TOTM, so hopefully the weight loss will speed up when that's out of the way.

Have just discoved a couple of low carb fresh soups in waitrose - 2 of the spicy chicken ones (one is Thai Green chicken, can't remember the other one but it's a spicy chicken one) are about 5g net carbs (i.e. carbs minus fibre...yep, still in Atkins mentality I'm afraid) per serving. Not sure if Dukan friendly but they are very generous with the chicken - more of a stew/curry than a soup - so hopefully ok for Dukan too.

insertexpletive · 28/09/2010 09:50

Saltcod I have really been missing soup so thanks for the tip. My mouth is watering already Smile

insertexpletive · 28/09/2010 10:05

Hey everyone - time for a new thread Grin
Over here

PrudencePie · 28/09/2010 12:47

has anyone gained weight with time of the month???

zaazaa · 28/09/2010 22:07

I have now been on the attack phase for 5 days and only lost 2.5lbs. I am nearly 4 stones overweight and understood that if I only had a small amount of weight to lose then weight loss would be slow but I need to lose 30lbs plus to get to a normal weight.

Is this normal? Everyone else seems to have dropped lots of weight. Could I be drinking/eating too much skim milk and yoghurt?

I buy Muller lights fat free in toffee and vanilla flavour and eat about 3 a day (small pots). I drink about 3/4 pint skim milk a day.

I drink water with a weak dilution of Robinsons Special R sugar free squash.

I don't eat anything off the allowed list or with fat.

Please could someone let me know if they have had a similar experience or if they think I am doing anything wrong/reasons why?

Thanks so much

zaazaa · 28/09/2010 22:12

tanyatais · 03/10/2010 16:47
